Any handheld bag fans?

I think handheld bags look so pretty; very much an "accessory." I usually use a shoulder bag or tote, but I've hauled my LV Speedy through grocery stores and airports, and even though it's not the most practical thing ever, I love carrying it.

For an every day bag, I prefer handheld with a long strap option. I usually grab the handle instead of shouldering the bag. I don't like the creases on my clothes or the weight of the bag on my shoulder that would affect my posture. I also think it looks more polished especially when heading out for dinner or a meeting.
The long strap is seldom used, only when my hands are full with other things and I'm in hurry like when I'm at the airport or traveling.

Good question! my current go to is a dual handle, i don't own any single handles but have considered a style with it.. may i ask why do you prefer it ?

You know, I think at the time I figured this out, I had decided that it was because having a support handle on both sides of the purse supported its weight better than a single-handled bag. Which may or may not be true. But honestly, after I recently carried a single-handled bag, I decided that was phooey. [emoji13]

Seriously though, I do like how bags that are built for hand carrying keep my shoulder from being weighted down. I tend to carry way too much with me, which often results in a sore shoulder for me if I don't have the right bag.

Love hearing what works well and why for other people in this thread! Gives me more excuses to think hard about handbags. [emoji16]

I love short handles or one short hobo handle for carrying it in my hand. But as a mom of 4, there has to be the crossbody strap as well. Kind of off topic but I also love (and use a ton) a grab handle on my diaper backpack for short term grab and go. Then if I'm walking more than one minute I put it on my back of course. It's all about ergonomics and one shoulder for heavy bags is tough on your body. Lightweight nylon crossbody carry is comfy for me, or backpack, or then small leather clutch or handheld bag with removable long crossbody strap is a favorite in case I need both hands to shop but usually carry in my hand.

But I love a medium sized hobo and carry it in my hand a lot, (even though the size is not quite right for that) instead of under my armpit.

I also like a handle or double handles with a strap option. While I prefer the hands-free aspect of using a longer strap or crossbody, I just think carrying a bag by handle/s or in crook of arm looks more chic, classy, elegant or whatever adjective suits you....kind of ala Audrey Hepburn style.

Am nuts for this type of satchel design:

Which I mostly carry using strap.
But absolutely adore "easy grab handle." When I jump in & out of car, cafe seat, meeting room, park bench, etc.

The quick-handle-grab is nearest I circle to hand-held. Am strap junkie. Need to flap arms about, wild & free.
Ahhh RS!!!~Dang I've missed you & your posts terribly since the somewhat slowing of our dear Mulberry love threads! I adore your primrose bag you posted. Hope life is grand for you lately! :flowers:

Aw:heart: thanks, Kendie26.
In true tpf fashion, also have deadly ponies bag in similar design(1 top handle + strap). Because "just 1" & "nuts about style" rarely happens here.;)
My orchid plant still is shooting out dozens of green snakey things. None are flowering.:hrmm: And all look a bit scary alien probe-ish.
Saw your veggie thread posts. Great stuff!

 thanks much for yet another hardy chuckle from you! Can you take a pic of your orchid & send to me....not sure I can help but I'm not sure what you mean about these "green snakey things"...I think they might be roots that you're referring to. They do grow roots all over the place, kind of "snake" like shape! Hang in there with it because as long as it has the green leaf/foliage to nourish the plant it will eventually grow another spike (or more) & as the spike grows you'll see buds forming & getting bigger before they open up & show their gorgeous flowers. Don't water more than once per week & fertilize once/month. :coolio:

my #1 choice is crossbody, but i have started to buy more single handle top-handles lately, as i age and get more and more professional they look incredibly feminine and 'smart' and ladylike, etc. and they don't ruin the line of the clothing or the shoulders. many benefits to them, and usually easy access too, and no fumbling with zippers and pulls and etc. i just bought a chanel kelly and want a mulberry primrose next.

Completely agree about the need for short handle/s to use as a grab mechanism. I've been using a Henri Bendel ziparound packable backpack this past week for summer outings--got it for a steal, figured it would serve my need for an easy, carefree backpack--and have been dismayed to discover that there is no looped handle at the top. GAH.

On another note, I've been mulling over Rebecca Minkoff hobos lately and I love how the handles seem optimized in length and stiffness for both shoulder and hand carry--because like you, I find myself doing multiple ways of carrying a bag. I guess it's all about what you need in the moment....which if you have kids, can change a lot within each day!

I absolutely love handheld bags. It looks so classy and ladylike. Top handle bags that have a crossbody option are my fav, though I only use the crossbody strap when I need my hands free like in the grocery store or airport.

I much prefer hand held bags as I have a dog and everything he does results in my shoulder bags falling off my shoulder, often hitting the floor. As I like hardware I also find it bounces off my car a lot. I do buy shoulder bags too but either have to hold them on my shoulder or put them over my arm so no long straps on my shoulder bags. In terms of what looks better, I definitely think hand held looks better on me, I even look elegant some days [emoji12]
