Any guesses or speculation for Hedi’s 1st collection?

I think goodies from PP’s last season will roll in in June. After buying and selling bags on eBay (and then to resellers after I got scammed by a buyer on eBay and lost $2700 on a micro luggage...) for 15+ yrs, I’ve learned not to look at bags as investment, but choose wisely - buy bags that I love and would use and with classic shape and shade so they last for a long time without looking dated after a few seasons. So with PP’s departure, I personally would love to see what other bags from her I would want to buy and enjoy for a long time without worrying much on resell value.

Beautifully said!

I really hope the box stays! It is actually the last bag on my list to grab (hopefully) before he replaces everything. I would have purchased it already but I bought another bag instead assuming it would be gone sooner than the box bag.
I have to agree with other commenters that Hedi is going to start from scratch at Céline and everything but the box bag will be gone. I liked SL during Hedi’s time and I own a few SLs myself but I’m not totally thrilled about a cool LA musician aesthetic for Céline because that brand has too much of Phoebe’s minimalist stamp on it. I just don’t get why Céline didn’t pick a designer who was closer to Phoebe’s aesthetic. Maybe they felt he was the one from the pool of unemployed creative directors? Ugh.

resale value on all designer bags have dropped significantly over the last couple of years.

What do you mean? Like in all brands? If so, why?
I have not visited the resale market, but I think I might have to start selling my bags because I do not use them anymore. I was just wondering that has the market changed recently..?

Based on what happened with YSL, I expect Hedi's pre-collection to be sold alongside the Fall collection done by Phoebe's team around October. The new Celine will officially launch around Sept 30 with the SS19 runway show. That is when the new logo and imagery will be released. Phoebe's Celine will be phased out until the SS19 collection hits stores. I don't think they will stop selling her things until then.

I'm sure the outlets (both Celine and dept stores) will continue to sell her work. YSL outlets still sell pre-Hedi bags/wallets like the Muse II and Belle de Jour bags to this day.

Reading this still makes me sad...

I agree it's sad to lose a female perspective. Especially given that the house was founded by a woman I think they should've stayed true to Celine as Phoebe made it. I was never a fan of Phoebe's work but I recognize the importance for her customers to wear something by someone who really understands and "gets" them, a perspective which a man can never really have. I read an article somewhere saying that a lot of men would be confused by her shows because they seemed so boring while women would be making mental wish lists.

But, Phoebe was solely focused on women and averse to e-commerce. Hedi was chosen purely for the bottom line. He has a huge global following in menswear. His YSL was extremely profitable, and he can bring in more sales from the additions of menswear, beauty and e-commerce that Phoebe wouldn't have. That's all that went into that decision.

The nature of fashion is change, especially in this era of designer musical chairs. You cannot expect any of it to last. Plus, LVMH doesn't care about whether you will carry the same Celine bag for 20 years, they only care that they sold it to you. For them it's better that a bag goes out of fashion quicker so that they can sell you the next one. The only way to sidestep that is to buy things which are true to yourself that you would wear regardless of their popularity.

Personally I am thrilled to have Hedi back and to see him at a house where he can have complete creative control. His work speaks to me much more than Phoebe's. But I understand the disappointment for Phoebe's customers completely. It's unfortunate that they are not continuing Phoebe's legacy.

1q2w3e you’re making some good points.
I liked Celine under P Philo. So many of her bags are minimalist, timeless and true classics, it’s what I loved the most about her style.
Celine lost female perspective which in the male dominated world of fashion should be preserved as something precious. I’m not happy about a man overtaking the house but somewhat curious where will Celine end up.

I went to see the Miami store this weekend and it was closed with the windows made opaque. They are already renovating it and the store moved to a temporary location in the meantime. It just opened in December just before Hedi took over. Does anyone know if they are renovating other stores yet?

Me too, I have moved on from that in my younger years...

Sounds terrible. Why do something to one brand you've already done to another? Hoping this article is wrong…

Right??? Why do something you have done already for another brand? And the young rocker party girls do grow up into grown women too you know?

For what it’s worth, not everything he does is “rock” style, mostly just the seasonal/runway pieces are.

That article says he will do another “permanent” seasonless collection like he did at SLP with classic pieces. The permanent collection included simple suits, dresses and heels, plus minimalistic bags.

At SLP, he made a minimalist version of a Birkin, a Kelly, a Speedy, and a Chanel flap (the Sac de Jour, Moujik, Duffle and Betty bags respectively). They would have seasonal variations with studs, fringe, etc. but he makes classic things too.

I just hope that he doesn’t eradicate everything that we love from Phoebe. As it happens I do like SL bags but only have a SDJ and if I think about it, perhaps it’s because aside from being a beautiful bag, it has the same minimal branding as Céline.

I can understand that some people want to completely overhaul everything their predecessor achieved so as to mark their territory but the smart ones will build on their predecessors success and add their own touch here and there. That’s what I’m hoping for.

I am content with my Céline bags as it stands so if it transpires I don’t like Hedi’s range at least I have pieces that I love.
