Anti-Coach snobs...ugh

I find there are snobs in every brand of purse....
I have a large Coach collection, a small LV collection, a sole MK and a balenciaga which I have on consignment to sell right now (bought it to help out a friend who needed $$$ and HATE it..!)
I have had a MK SA comment on my Coach Caroline by saying WOW I didn't know Coach ever made such a nice bag.. but she then walked away and never offered to help me with a MK... months later I walked in with an LV and that same SA complimented me a few times on the LV and was ALL about trying to sell me a MK...
When I walk into LV with Coach bag I get complimented by the SA's there .. when I walk into Coach with an LV bag the SA's don't even acknowledge what bag I have or make a comment... but if I walk in Coach with a LV shopping bag they are "What did you buy there...?" I find I get more snobby looks and remarks towards my LV's then Coach bags..
that being said I still would keep my Coach Anna Sui Dragonfly duffle over any LV I own...!!

When I bought the dragonfly and raspberry textured Carrie in Las Vegas, I carried my shopping bag into the stores of several designers. I remember that the SAs at Versace asked to see them and sounded sincerely impressed with them. I didn't detect any snobbery at all, nor did they act surprised that Coach could make something that nice.

+1 for me personally. But to each their own.

LOL! That's what I could never wrap my head around either! Why would someone ever willingly pay thousands of their hard-earned dollars for PLASTIC-COATED FABRIC? Just because it has a print on it (that IMO is super ugly I might add) that's been deemed "prestigious"?

Give me a break.

Well that's not cool! Who's being a snob now? I've loved the LV monogram pattern since I first saw it in high school. I saw it first, loved it... THEN found out what it was called and HOW expensive it was. I didn't want it because it was prestigious. I wanted it because the pattern caught my eye.

Give ME a break! Yeesh!!!

The whole point of this thread is that slagging off ANY brand can be perceived as judgmental and snobberific. Classic patterns may not be to one person's taste, and leather versus canvas versus versus cotton prints versus patent versus saltwater crocodile farmed from the Northern Territories of Australia is just another debate on textile and price.

There's a lot more important things in life to worry about, like getting all my projects done before break and occasionally mopping my kitchen floor. In between Grand Final rugby playoffs.

To be fair, I DID say to each their own and that it was MY opinion the print was ugly, not yours.

There are people who agree with me and others who don't so if you like it, fine, fantastic. I do not and am merely expressing a perfectly valid opinion in an OPEN forum, no more no less.

Don't hate on someone just because their opinion is different from yours, thanks.

I'm sure you know LV offers more than a Canvas print so maybe one day one of the other leathers will be more your style. I get your point but to call someone's bag ugly is just down right rude. Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder. And further more I don't think it's ever anyone's business what someone chooses to spend THEIR money on. The thread is about bag snobs and you are now acting like one. To say someone's bag is ugly, you are implying your bag is superior. To call someone's bag ugly is in poor taste and just shouldn't be done. This is an open forum but one that should maintain some tact. I wouldn't want to open a thread about snobs to only be found that a bag I find lovely is being called ugly. Just say the bag is not for you and keep it moving.

Yep!

Don't you just love this new trend going on where someone says something blatantly unkind and then when someone calls them out on it they're all "this is an open forum, therefore I can say what I like and you have to put up with it."
Well of course, darling. You can say whatever you want and so can everyone else. Open forum also means that anyone else can call someone out on ill-mannered, unnecessarily rude behavior and you have to accept that as well.

I would also like to add that including the phrase, "to each their own" or "that's just my opinion." Does not automatically exempt a comment from being rude.
It's like when someone says, "no offense, but..." You're already bracing yourself for the insult because you know what they're saying is probably going to be offensive. And they know that too or else there would be no reason to say, "no offense, but..."

Yes, I realize LV does have leather bags as well but as a previous poster has also stated, they don't fit my lifestyle. Who knows? Maybe one day that will change, but I don't foresee it in the near future.

My comment about the monogram coated canvas was not meant to be a personal attack at all and I feel some of you ladies might have taken it as such. I am sorry you feel that way since that was not the intent.

That aside, I would like to point out the second post of the entire thread which expresses a similar sentiment:

Ugh. A lot of premier bags are downright ugly.
Moving on...

All excellent posts. :)
Snobbery, judgement, rudeness... it's all in the same bucket of yucky behavior to me.

I wonder if Coach SAs are trained to comment only on Coach bags. Lol. They comment on my bag every time if it is Coach but never a peep when I come in with Dooney, MK, or LV.

Snobbery (especially the outspoken kind) is a sign of weakness. Snobs are, in actuality, less confident and seek self-affirmation and self-worth from external sources (aka other people). And the standard by which they judge others is usually calibrated so that the verdict is in their favor. There is no consistent logic to these standards, and there is zero objectivity. (this is why snobbery can be found everywhere, anyone whether poor or rich can be a snob)

For example, Jane Doe is carrying an Alexander Wang purse. She looks down on Passerby#1 with a Coach because it is a lesser brand ("ick"). A couple seconds later, Jane Doe sees Passerby#2 carrying a LE LV canvas bag that costs 3 times more, but dismisses her as someone with poor taste because the LV is ugly, not even leather, and therefore a waste of money ("who in the right mind would pay THAT much for that thing").

Snobs find ways to elevate themselves and feel superior by belittling others. The question is, why do they even need to compare themselves against others to begin with? People who are truly self-confident and secure with who they are do not exhibit snobbery because they have no need to evaluate themselves against others.

Like-minded snobs also feed off of each other because they serve as sources of affirmation to one another.

So, try to be a little sympathetic toward the vocal snobs you see around here (or anywhere), they are just unconsciously trying to feel better about themselves. :smile1:

All this talk of bag snobbery... such first world problems when you stop and think about it.

I love tPF but aren't we privileged people to be able to sit online and ruminate about our favorite purchases or planning our next, setting up photo reveals, etc etc. I'd say we're awfully lucky overall to have to deal with problems of bag snobbery!

Bag Bullying is the next bad thing to hit the Internet!
