UPDATE TO FAKE SERIAL NUMBERS LIST

J4K- serial prefixes should ALL be considered FAKE. There are minor mistakes on some of the small details and MAJOR mistakes in one or two very important details. The fakes other than those mistakes are extremely accurate and can fool even the experts.

BEWARE of Style 9382
or J04U-9382

This is what an authentic 9382 should look like:

I've found a few fakes recently with this style number.

In my quest to find whether this number is common enough on fakes to post here, I did find a couple of other instances where different (fake) styles of bags had the serial number.

Here's a pinterest-Tophatter listing for one:

This is an older authenticity check on TPF:

And this current listing (pictures below) from seller voluntarysimplicitykelli is for a different style as well as including a fake wallet.

J8Y- has been looked at carefully and the consensus is that it should also be added to the "always fake" list.

It shows up in many extremely close fakes, but small mistakes in details have always put it on the "questionable" list. Unless we can find absolute proof that it's appeared in genuine bags, we now have to consider it fake. Please post any that you find in the "Authenticate This Coach" thread before reporting for the experts here to verify.

M6L-8216 is showing up in a lot of Signature C pattern fakes. This number and probably any bag with an -8216 style number is fake - NO EXCEPTIONS.

They usually also have Sig C or Coach Logo linings, badly cut, sewn and stamped creeds with misspellings, and -8216 is probably NOT a handbag style number.

The most obvious mistake is that Signature C bags would NOT have been made in 1996.

Can someone please advise when H1257-F20026 was made. I recently purchased a used black one that was in like new condition for only $50 and love it. Just wondering how old of a purse it is.
The H stands for the month it was made. If January is A, then H is August. The next two digits stand for the year, so 12 is 2012. It's not very old.
Here's some more information on how to read serial numbers:

thanks!

We had a discussion about this awhile ago. The problem stems from the abbreviations Coach uses on their price tags. Does HAM mean Hamilton or Hampton? If a seller describes it incorrectly, another seller can pick up on it and after awhile you have a bunch of items described with an incorrect name. Hamptons was and is a Coach line, so it is more likely that is the correct name for your wallet, but I have also found evidence that there might be items called Hamilton as well.

M8U-729 and M3U-729 are always fake.

Those prefixes and a phony 729 style number have been showing up in fakes recently. Neither prefix would ever have been used with a -729 style number, and there's no record of that style number ever being used in a handbag or purse-type accessory.

The M3U prefix has been a favorite of counterfeiters for years. It may sometimes show up in genuine bags, but usually it's a potential red flag and needs very careful examination. There are at least as many fakes with that prefix as there are genuine bags. Also watch for misaligned C patterns and creed misspellings.

Hi everyone. I have a question about the horse and carriage fabric bags....rare or not? I've seen women carrying them, but not often. I've also read that most coachies aren't crazy about that fabric. Personally, I rather like it. I am a coach person and a horse person so a coach bag with horses on it is okay by me.

If they are the ones I'm thinking about, they were made for factory. I don't think any made for factory bags are rare, but a lot of people like them because they aren't the typical signature.
