Actress Amanda Bynes was arrested by police in her midtown apartment Thursday night after officers said her room reeked of marijuana and caught her throwing drug paraphernalia out the window, law enforcement sources said.

The doorman at Bynes' building on West 47th Street called police to report she was smoking marijuana in the lobby, sources said. When officers arrived, Bynes had returned to her apartment on the 36th floor.

Officers observed a bong inside Bynes' apartment as she opened the door, the sources said. That's when she allegedly grabbed it and tossed it out of the window.

Officers also noted a "heavy" smell of marijuana and smoke inside the apartment, according to the sources.

Bynes was arrested on charges of reckless endangerment, tampering with evidence and criminal possession of marijuana.

She was taken to Roosevelt Hospital to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, then to a Midtown police station to be processed, according to the sources. She was expected to spend the night in Manhattan central booking and appear in court Friday.

A message was left with Bynes' attorney late Thursday night.

Bynes, whose increasingly bizarre behavior has been the subject of tabloid scrutiny in recent months, is already under probation for driving with a suspended license. The plea deal secured in Burbank, Calif. earlier this month placed Bynes under three years probation.

The former Nickelodeon star also has a DUI case pending in Beverly Hills.

I got this "breaking news" text last night from NBC. I guess they sent it out before anyone else knew anything because I couldn't find anything on the gossip sites. It just said she was arrested. Finally saw the story today. She really needs some serious help.

Guess she didn't meet criteria for a psychiatric hold...wasn't a danger to herself or others. She must've just been higher than the sky and probably pissed off about missing her flight. She's starting to sound like just a run of the mill druggie. Good thing nobody got hit by the bong she threw out the window.

I don't think that means she's not crazy, she could still very well have a slew of mental issues not released (especially since she's oddly started to be more and more preoccupied with flaws in her appearance that no one sees), I think it just means she's not dangerous to herself/others and therefore there's no reason for her to be hospitalized.

I know someone who went into full blown psychosis after a few months of heavy marijuana use.

But she might be using other drugs. Or she may be using drugs to self medicate an existing disorder. Who knows.

Wish they could have found a reason to keep her at the hospital. But on the flip side this must be a probation violation right? Maybe they can get her into treatment somehow that way.

This is just too sad. I was actually thinking a couple days ago that there hasn't been any Amanda news and here we are. I really hope that someone is able to get to her before it's too late.
