I'm probably the only one here who feels at least a tiny bit sympathetic to her parents. Yes, they appear to be severely in denial about their daughter's mental state, but I get the impression they are at wit's end with her. Amanda is incredibly unpredictable and she must be difficult to deal with on a day-to-day basis, even back when she was on meds and had improved.

She left their home and went across the country the moment their conservatorship ended so she must not have been happy in their care. She has free-will and cannot be forced into treatment until she does something that gets her in trouble with the law. It looks like that could happen at any time.

ETA: Bisbee, I was typing when your post came up. I agree with you.

Nope, you're not the only one. ;)

^ no, she was saying "if she procreates..."

I saw that piece on 60 Minutes, and what's stuck out for me is that a very large % of prisoners in our jails are there because of mental health issues. If whatever their health issue was ( bi-polar, schizophrenic, etc ) taken care of, they would not have landed in jail.

Also there was a fellow who I believe was bi-polar. He hated the way the meds made him feel, but he also hated being bi-polar, so he took the drugs. And that sadly is the biggest problem with mental illness. The people who really need the meds hate the way they make them feel, so they stop.

Yes, a huge portion of our inmates and homeless have untreated mental illness.

No one knows anything about Amanda's parents. We don't know anything about their relationship with Amanda. There's a reason they were estranged for so many years. For all we know, Amanda cut them out of her life when she turned 18. She may have made it clear that she didn't want -- or need -- their help. We don't know. We don't know anything about her parents - are they devout Christians? Do they have certain beliefs about medicine and/or religion? We don't know - why? Because we don't know them. We don't know Amanda. We don't know the situation and how long they're been "dealing" with this. We only know what TMZ and the Daily Mail chooses to tell us.

Amanda's parents aren't celebrities. They're not granting interviews sharing their story. They're not speaking publicly about Amanda. We're also not hearing from Amanda - and haven't for a very long time. That In Touch article could very well be all made up. Who's gonna believe Amanda if she says she didn't say those things? People will read that and say, "I could see Amanda saying that" or "Maybe that's what she believes". Is she really going to sue In Touch for liable? The tabloids can pretty much say whatever they want about her. Its disgusting really, how low the tabloids will sink for $$

I think its pretty cruel to point fingers in situations like these when no one has any intimate knowledge of the situation. IMO, Amanda didn't look very happy when she was released from the hospital into her mothers care. She looked empty and robotic. For all we know, she made life he!! for her parents. She may have mde it clear that she doesn't want or need their help. This could be killing her parents on the inside. We don't know.

This isn't a Kardashian who's looking for attention anyway she can get it. This is what appears to be a very sick woman and her mother isn't some Kris Kardashian or Dina Lohan. I'm sure they're carrying enough of a burden and are in more than enough pain - to point fingers and place the bulk of the blame on them is cruel and unfair. I'd love to see some of this disappointment and disgust aimed the the media who continue to follow Amanda around daily and take her picture and write lengthy articles about her, and profit from her illness. They're the ones that people should be ashamed of. They're the ones people should be sickened by. Her parents aren't celebrities or public figures. They didn't open their lives up for judgment. They just happen to be the parents of an ADULT CHILD who appears mentally ill. Unless anyone's walked in their shoes, been where they're at, and done so much "better" than they're doing, I don't think its anyone's place to cast judgment.

Great post.

I agree with this. Being a parent of a mentally ill child is not easy. I know two people with bi-polar, one of them was diagnosed at 17 and her parents went through hell. She would leave the house in the middle of the night and just wander around. Luckily she was still a minor so her parents were able to take control of the situation but it wasn't easy. I can't imagine how hard it must be when your child is an adult, there's only so much you can do. Also Amandas parents might be afraid of her. People with schizophrenia/bi polar can be very scary, because they're a completely different person. The other person i know with bi-polar was so out of it that his wife moved out for a while, she was terrified of what he might do.

I totally agree. While I want to believe that any parent can rescue their child at any age, they can't. Some parents are ready and capable for the everyday every second battle with their mentally ill or drug addicted child but some aren't.

And the downward spiral continues:

Amanda Bynes was accused of going full Winona Ryder -- she was caught by security at a trendy New York City store allegedly trying to steal merchandise. NYC cops were called ... but we've learned they just let her go.

According to our sources, Bynes was nabbed by security guards at Barneys on Madison Ave. after she tried to leave without paying. Law enforcement sources tell us she put on a $200 hat and walked out of the store ... security nabbed her outside.

We're told they brought Bynes back in, where witnesses say she was "acting crazy." 4 NYPD officers arrived on scene to question her, but security had already let her go.

Our sources say ... Bynes told security guards she was being chased by fans inside Barneys ... so she grabbed the cap to cover her face. She said she had no intention of stealing anything ... so they let her go. Barneys made her sign a no-trespass agreement ... banning her from re-entering the store.

Amanda Bynes wants money from all of you folks out there who are reading her mind through that pesky chip in her brain.

C'mon, you guys. Seriously. Knock it off.

Bynes' newfound charge into crazyville took a turn this week while she was hanging around a reporter from InTouch Weekly. Among the fascinating thing the "Hairspray" actress said is that she knows there's a microchip in her brain allowing people to read her thoughts.

"I want a dollar a day from every person who (is) reading my mind."

She really should wrap her head in a seven-pound ball of aluminum foil. Works for me.

During the interview, InTouch reports, Bynes was "seemingly imbalanced." She allegedly talked to herself, took off her top to show off a nipple ring and rambled about her need for more plastic surgery.

Sounds like someone's parents need to fly to New York and get her back to the doctor, before none of this is funny anymore.

Bynes reportedly bought diamond earrings while with the reporter, without bothering to look at the price tag. She also reportedly said she got straight As in psychology and said she'd thought of becoming a plastic surgeon.

Bynes also told the reporter she has prescriptions for Adderall and medical marijuana, which she was allegedly using when she was arrested for DUI last month. She also talked about needing a nose job. "I look so hideous. Everyone can use a little plastic surgery."

Some of us could use a lot of plastic surgery. But never mind me ...

She also addressed her parents' legal conservatorship that allowed them to control her finances and other matters. "I was miserable living with them," she said. "I would have rather been in jail."

Bynes was admitted to a mental health facility last year, after numerous legal matters and other bizarre episodes, including starting a fire on a neighbor's driveway. After months of treatment, she emerged seemingly in better health and enrolled in fashion school. Last month, after her parents' conservatorship ended, she was arrested on suspicion of DUI in Southern California. She recently flew to New York City. Reports emerged this week saying the 28-year-old is engaged to a 19-year-old employee of a bait shop in Costa Mesa.

Gah! This is what she needs- to be caught for something criminal. I wish they wouldn't have let her go. It is extremely difficult to do something, as far as mental illness goes, against an adult in the US. Is she on probation or anything for the dog/fire thing last year?

And again . . . She's already been banned from barney's this week.

Amanda Bynes Wait, I Have to Pay for This Shirt?? Allegedly Caught Red-Handed AGAIN

EXCLUSIVE

Amanda Bynes
was accused of shoplifting in New York City TWICE Wednesday -- TMZ has learned she was also caught trying to swipe merch from a women's clothing store ... one hour before the Barneys bust.

According to our sources, employees at Pookie & Sebastian began following Bynes around the store because she was acting suspicious. We're told they didn't recognize it was Amanda, and just thought she was a "half-naked, homeless crackhead."

Customers tell us Bynes was dancing and muttering about plastic surgery -- but eventually she tried to bolt with a shirt stuffed between her arms. When an employee stopped her and asked if she was going to pay, Amanda said ... "Do I really have to buy this?"

The answer, of course, was yes -- and we're told Bynes was actually cooperative ... whipping out a credit card to cover the $128.

As TMZ first reported, Bynes was also nabbed by security at Barneys while trying to walk out with a $200 hat.

Can't they just book her on a 5150 again and actually like give full custody/whatever they do for adults to either her parents, siblings or just keep her at a hospital to normalize again? Or better yet just hire a caretaker... I just really feel for the poor girl..
