Am I nuts?Do you save your bags because you're afraid to carry them everyday?

Soo guilty! I wore my red balenciaga today for the first time... She's been in the closet for a month. It started to sprinkle outside so back in the closet she went. I'm getting better tho. I wear my LV Metis all the time now and I'm bringing my baby (the red bal) on vacation in 2 weeks so there's hope for change :)

Only bag I baby is my 2008 Balenciaga Amethyst City. I only wear it when the weather is perfect, and infrequently at that, to prevent fading/discoloration.

I am guilty of this :D I tend to buy bags that (imo) look like pieces of art. Then, I'm too nervous to carry them because I don't want to ruin them. I do much better when I buy used bags because they are already "broken in" and the fear isn't as great. I know, I know, my husband is like "why buy them if you're not going to use them!" :p

I have just started to use my bags more and more....it's definitely hard because I don't want to mess them up. Whenever I carry my Chanel or Valentino flap bags I change out of them soon as I get home...I don't know why but I can't help it

I rotate my bags, but there are a few I rarely ever wear. Only one because of fear of wear and tear (Chanel Reissue in metallic color, it rubs off too fast), others because of the size. It's not about the price for me, I wear my Birkin and Evelyne a lot, Kelly also relatively often. I don't wear my less expensive bags (LV, Prada) as much as my Hermes

I ALWAYS use my bags. Operative word: USE.
What's the sense of paying $$$$ if they're going to sit in your closet, wasting space and money?

Bags are just a means of transporting our daily essentials around. I'm a longstanding tPF'er and I love both high-end and no-name brands but in the grand scheme of things, they'll burn away when we die.

Life is too short - use and enjoy!

Agree. This is the one thing I don't understand about most women - they waste thousands on a single bag but their new purse would just sit in the closet unused for decades. What a waste of money when that thousands could be spent on a purse that you will actually use everyday. I always use my bag, only changing it when I need to downsize to a smaller one.

My mom always buys both contemporary and high-end designers but she only uses her 30+ year old LV Batignolles Horizontal which is now horrifically beat up and have icky looking handles. Hell, she even bought 2 beautiful Kate Spade bags last summer at the outlet which she got a great deal, but never once she used them. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

There are bags you use and then there are bags you just like having with no need to justify them to anyone. It makes me sad to see people, especially women, trying to justify their purchases all the time. If you can afford it and are not a certifiable hoarder, then please just own it and enjoy regardless of how much or little they are being used, that's your perogative!!!

I used to feel like you do - you love your beautiful bags - you must wear them. Dont wait - most leather looks better with age and use - I know Bals do.

Life is too short - who knows if you will be around tomorrow - use, use, use your bags.

Dont be the old lady who never uses her fine china and linen and it just gets junked when she dies.

So true. Soooooo true. I used to think like that. I want to develop a style when I lose weight, I want to use my good perfumes when I go out, I want to wear my nice clothes when i meet someone. The thing is if we wait for the perfect time it might never come. Maybe a piece or two are truly for special occasion, but I try to wear most of my stuff now.

I also wanted to add that "use" doesn't mean abuse. I use my velvet chanel often but to specific outings, times when I need to dress up. I even use it when I go to the mall. I try to find a way to use my stuff yet still preserve and take care of it. I don't want to spend thousands on a bag and wear it once or twic a year.

I think there are every day bags and then there are some special occasion bags for special outfits. and then again there are bag collectors. (Quite a few of them here in the forum)

I don't tend to baby things, I like to use them. However I have been cautious with one of my vintage Hermes bags, and was debating using it yesterday as the weather was showery. While I was dithering, and doing other things, I found my cat (the culprit is in avatar) had scratched it trying to play with the hanging cloche - I was very ****ed, but after a little while, I thought its ok, leather ages whatever you do, so I might as well take it out. It came to no harm, and tbh I think he did me a favour by teaching me not to be silly and precious with it!
