I found your answer to this post interesting Ninjanna. I work in a hospital too and I use my bags going to work other wise I would never use them. I make sure designer bag or not it gets locked up in my locker. Just wondered why. I hope I'm not offending here just curious.
Reading this post reminded me of my grandmother. When she died we found she had TONS of clothes, shoes, and bags that she had literally never, ever used. My father was so upset when he saw that. It just seemed so sad to him that she had all these things for a lifestyle that she was afraid to live.
USE YOUR BAGS!
Yes, they may get worn, or old, but that's what happens to stuff. Life is not about everything being perfect and pristine forever. Everything changes. We do, the seasons do, the world does. It's the way it was intended to be.
If you really find you can't use them, you should sell them and only buy things that you don't have to worry about from now on. Honestly that's pretty much my philosophy about bags. I never buy anything that I wouldn't be able to easily replace if something happened to it. That's how I determine what my price ceiling is.
I do this all the time, get a really nice one and then keep it in it's dust bag because I'm afraid for something to happen to it.. would I have the money to get another... would the same kind even be available.. etc. All those things really bother me, and want to keep it as nice as possible. Like a collector item. And some things take you years to get, so you really want to protect them.
Then one day I read a quote that inspired me " Don't ever save things for a special occasion, being alive is the special occasion".. so I've started to carry bags that I used to protect, but there are still some that I plan out where I will take them and will alternate often so they don't get worn out, or I will make sure it's not raining that day.. etc.
this really spoke to me, thank you for this!!
