Am I nuts?Do you save your bags because you're afraid to carry them everyday?

I do that and hate myself for not being brave enough to just carry them no matter what, I end up carrying Gap canvas tote to work instead of gorgeous totes I collected - YSL downtown, Ralph Laurent lace tote.... luxurious totes and I just do not have the guts to carry them all the time

Use them and show them off! I used to think ok I'll "save" them for later (god knows why and what), I always go look at them but every time I go out I always stick with the same bags (the one I don't mind wrecking so much)...I started to change to try to use every one of them in turns now cause they deserve a good use and yes life is just too short NOT to enjoy your beautiful bags

SInce I started my new years resolution to shop from my closet, I've been 'forced' to take my bags and wallets out and use them. I've really been good with using the wallets - arleady used my LV and Dior for a month each; been really good with using my bags too but I'm still weather cautious . but it's a step forward =)

if you truly love something, u must want to share it with others..isn't it? for me,at least..of course, someone buy their favorite stuff just want to collect them.in my suggestion, i hope u can carry that bag in big day for you, like a good friends birthday or party..i'm sure they will jealous aobut your fabulous bag..

Likewise, I get very cross if I don't get good use from my bags - In fact, today I'm very pleased with myself as one of my oldest purchases ever the amarante Rossmore was starting to gather dust so I popped into LV @Westfield London & bought a matching amarante strap so now my fab Rossmore also goes crossbody yay!! I am eh hem, less than 5ft thou!

I decided, as i am cleaning up my closet, to buy smarter. I kept buying bags for my imaginary life, spending extra on clutches and evening bags that are totally useless when going out dancing or eating at one of those of so typical urban restaurants with really small tables and nowhere to put your purse.

So i decided, i am only going to get cheap useless evening bags and feel ok splurging on an everyday forever bag. That one will get used often (except in the rain) and i'll rotate fun bags for the weekend. Anything that stays in the closet too long will be donated or consigned.

I don't want to be like my grandmothers who had plastic covered furniture for fancy occasions that i never sat on uncovered until my grandma passed away and it was her wake.

Bags are for using and living in!

A few years ago my sister and i got a Coach purse for my mom. My mom is cheap and anti-brand names. Growing up she got cheap leather purses from Kmart and Walmart when they sold cheap leather. Or cheap stuff at Marshall's / Ross. She'd use the bag till it fell apart and by another one. Back then things were made a lot better, even the cheap stuff, and those bags would last several years through daily use. Well in recent years we kept trying the same thing. And my mom's purse would fall apart in months. The splurge was worth it, even though my mom hates brands.

We found a perfect sized bag for my mom at the outlet. Not too fancy or flashy. She was excited at having her first name brand purse, but was afraid to use it. My dad said, you are always "saving" your nice stuff. We are in our sixties and don't have much time left so just use it, and she did.

I found your answer to this post interesting Ninjanna. I work in a hospital too and I use my bags going to work other wise I would never use them. I make sure designer bag or not it gets locked up in my locker. Just wondered why. I hope I'm not offending here just curious.

I can't bring myself to carry any nice bags to work (I work in a hospital as well). My locker is really tiny so I specifically use small handbags for work only. I only bring to work what will fit in my locker. It's annoying having to switch out of my big beautiful handbags every time I come to work (3 days a week) and have to downgrade to smaller bag with smaller space. Any other ladies experience this?

I love that this thread was revived!

My mom was/is a saver. We'd get her new stuff and she'd never wear it. We would have to lie and say it was our old stuff just so she would use it! I admit that I had this attitude for a long time. I wanted to keep my things pretty and perfect. But whats the point if you NEVER wear them? They are meant to be worn and used, not stored in a bag on a shelf. I spent so much money because I feel they represent me, my style, personality, and they bring me joy. They can't do any of that if I never wear them! YOLO, use your stuff!!

I do this all the time, get a really nice one and then keep it in it's dust bag because I'm afraid for something to happen to it.. would I have the money to get another... would the same kind even be available.. etc. All those things really bother me, and want to keep it as nice as possible. Like a collector item. And some things take you years to get, so you really want to protect them.

Then one day I read a quote that inspired me " Don't ever save things for a special occasion, being alive is the special occasion".. so I've started to carry bags that I used to protect, but there are still some that I plan out where I will take them and will alternate often so they don't get worn out, or I will make sure it's not raining that day.. etc.

Reading this post reminded me of my grandmother. When she died we found she had TONS of clothes, shoes, and bags that she had literally never, ever used. My father was so upset when he saw that. It just seemed so sad to him that she had all these things for a lifestyle that she was afraid to live.

USE YOUR BAGS!

Yes, they may get worn, or old, but that's what happens to stuff. Life is not about everything being perfect and pristine forever. Everything changes. We do, the seasons do, the world does. It's the way it was intended to be.

If you really find you can't use them, you should sell them and only buy things that you don't have to worry about from now on. Honestly that's pretty much my philosophy about bags. I never buy anything that I wouldn't be able to easily replace if something happened to it. That's how I determine what my price ceiling is.

this really spoke to me, thank you for this!!

I do the same like you :D

Every time when I want to buy a bag, my boyfriend says: you have already so many bags but you never use them :D
