I don't really think how someone responds to one question about one film role says anything about their career path.

I mean seriously Bag, you're beginning to sound a wee bit bitter. I think Alex responded with manners. Fassy responded bluntly. I think both approaches have merits. Because even if the movie is crap and he doesn't star in it, to come out and diss it when it could very well end up with a good director attached to it...might be unwise.

It's highly doubtful but it might end up being a Last Tango in Paris (again, doubtful) but if it had a good director with another cast...why would you outright dismiss a project when you haven't even seen any of the important details. Co-stars, director and script?

And since when isn't Alex praised by his colleagues? I think he's made some really good choices in his three upcoming film roles, and let's not forget Melancholia. To my way of thinking, he's a classic actor with an indie heart. And he's straddling the mediums of popular filmmaking and independent films reasonably well at the moment.

This of course will see me stamped with the "Alex is St Alex on this thread" BS that makes me laugh. I don't want him to do 50 Shades. I would hate him to do it. But you say career choices are important? Agreed. But having manners doesn't hurt either.

SCREAM AWARDS 2012

Just a note this is not too far off. They are scheduled for October 13 and an air date of October 16 in the US.

I haven't seen any links for voting yet, which is sort of odd.

Fassy gets to be the blunt one, while Ryan and Alex get to be the diplomatic ones. While I'd like Alex to take the Julianne route and dismiss it outright, it's not going to happen.

The Scream Awards, don't they usually have voting opened by the beginning of September?

I'm sure that they do usually open the voting then BC. It would be a shame if they don't go ahead. I love the weirdness of the Scream Awards. The attendees are so enthusiastic, half the show is looking at their fabulous costumes.

Yeah, I agree CBLA is totally brilliant. I always go on there when I log on 'cos even if there's nothing new it always makes me smile, oh yeah, that and the pix. (I don't bring the stuff on here all the time because that would be unfair but yeah bril site.)

And I agree the 50 hype is seriously weird - and I didn't know that even Michele ***** had been asked a question on it  Unfortunately, I think most actors have to react with a certain degree of politeness, it just goes with the territory, and I'd completely forgotten about Eyes Wide Shut, let's hope someone reminds Alex.

IF Skars was cast, would I go and see it? Probably not, (and I sat through 13), because all the time I'd be thinking, you lying ******, and yeah, I can see this role was a real challenge. So hmm, anyway it hasn't happened, probly won't, but there's always that teeny little doubt, who knows? Now I really am going to have to dig out that Fassbender quote 'cos when I read it, I thought, Askars that's what you should be saying. That's not to say that I wouldn't look at the YouTube edits and gifs that would soon be hitting the web ;)

Your 2 cents worth are welcome any time :smile1:

Love CBLA. RE: FSOG; watched the Katie Couric interview w/ EL James. It is everywhere, kind of like Twilight was. I'm happy now that Skars has TB that he is committed to, so he won't be available to film FSOG, if he was asked (fingers crossed).

:goodpost: Skars is so good at being middle of the road when it comes to talking to media. We'll never know how he really feels. I think his approach to FSOG has been really good. Flirting w/the fact that he's interested, without a commitment. Is this the way things work in real life - of course not, but in HW this is the game they play.

Well, after lurking for a few years now this very month I wouldn't consider you that, I think you are very reasonable. Anyways, hi people, nice to finally post here and I hope to join in on future conversations from time to time.:smile1:

:welcome2: apc. Jump in.

Hear, hear. I agree.

Scream Awards are scheduled for 10/13, but no voting online listed, yet. Unfortunately, this just brings up bad memories for me. This was the first time AS/KB were linked back when, so I don't like being reminded of them together.

Well, that's your opinion and you can stick with it. Doesn't mean I have to agree with it. As far as I can remember he only got praised by his co-stars which is the normal thing to do while promoting. I'm talking about the real praising, the one Fassbender for example received. People who were not involved with the movie and are considered talented. I find it funny that people still have their hopes up they might make a good screen adaptation out of this. Yeah right and Santa Clause exists too. And since when is saying no to something considered bad manners?
And bitter? Where did I hear that before? Anyway, it takes more than an actor eyeing porn to turn me bitter. Just because I'm the only one stating my opinion here doesn't mean there aren't people thinking the same way.

I think that's actually what we all do...state opinions...no use getting your panties in a twist because I don't agree with you. I thought you'd appreciate the bluntness from me that you admired so much in Fassbender. Whatever. Comparing their careers is like apples and oranges. Fassy has the luxury of not being bound by a rigourous filming schedule like Alex has for TB. He takes the stuff that interests him within the confines of his available time.

I never said you had to agree with my opinion. You should read a little closer. I was simply giving mine. Which happened to be opposing to yours.

BTW...I don't think 50 will be good...again..not reading what I wrote. More of..if it's going to be made and Alex is in it then I would hope for a decent script, cast, director...wouldn't you?

Edit: Ok the "bitter" comment was too harsh on my part. I do think you're comparing actors against actors as if they are all identical, with the same aspirations, offers, career trajectories and desires. Each man is different. Again, only my opinion.

I find this habit of praising one actor at th expense of another very odd - I don't understand why liking Michael or Joel or joe or Stephen or gustaf means feeling the need to compare Alex unfavourably to them (and presumably vice versa at times). It's as though some people get a shiny new crush-toy and have to shout to the world how embarrassed they are that they ever played with raggedy old Alex with the worn off bits and one eye missing. ;-)

I have to agree it's a bit of a stretch to suggest that Michael's career is somehow more serious because he was blunt (not least, it's not as though he said "I'd never do that steaming pile of awfulness", he said he didn't want to get his c*ck out, which is diplomatic in its own way). Michael is an obnoxious person, Alex isn't - does that make either of them better or more serious or worthy of admiration? Nope. It makes them different people.

And another thing while I'm on my soapbox! Alex is right. It's not likely that a great screenwriter or director could make something interesting out of those books, but in this industry nothing can be predicted or written off with certainty, so why not hold out and see? It's a pretty big *if* the script is good, so it's not as though he is committing himself to anything. Not that I am campaigning for him to bring the one dimensional tosspot that is Christian Grey to the silver screen by any means, I just think that his responses so far have been professional and reasonable, in my so-not-humbl opinion ;-)

Believe me, he won't do it. Any sane actor won't do it. For me it's a clear no because he doesn't want to be known as the actor who gets his d*ck out all the time.

And I think that's the main reason for him to say "no". Most people didn't really make a fuss about how great "Shame" was and how good the actors were. Instead there was a lot of talk about Michael Fassbender going full frontal. I'm sure he knew that that would happen, but maybe the sheer scale of it will keep him from doing it again?

I don't really see how anyone can make a good script out of "Fifty Shades". Take away the SM-scenes and all you've got is a rather boring story about a relationship. So, I wonder if there really will be a film. Most Hollywood studios tend to go for PG-13 these days because ages 13-18 are their target audience. That age restriction would rule out most of the kinky stuff, whereas making it a sexy PG-18 would exclude a huge chunk of the audience. I'm not too sure the big studios will take that risk over making the next remake-cash-machine.

Good points. I think you're right...if they are aiming it at PG-13..it will be a tough road. And honestly...there's so much better quality kink out there, both literary and cinematic. I'm really an outcast amongst my friends though...lots of them have the whole series...only a few of us have resisted. They need to read some Anais Nin or Henry Miller.

Anyhow..different strokes for different folks and all that..it's just not appealing to me.

Getting ready for Skars watch for the weekend:

Emmys 2012: Fashion and Beauty Events Sprout Up Around Town

Where awards show are, fashion and beauty are sure to follow. This Emmy weekend, there will be a number of gift lounges and parties on, but these two are specifically dealing in beauty and fashion.

On Thursday night, Evan Handler and Pamela Adlon of Californication (he, of course, also starred as Harry in Sex and the City) will host Los Angeles Confidential’s annual pre-Emmy party at the London West Hotel on the rooftop. This year, it will include a fashion show by Lauren Berman, the designer behind the very successful Black Halo line, which is all about tight body-conscious dresses. Her new line is Eve. Also being promoted are a new fragrance by Fendi called Fan Di Fedni and TW Steel Watches. Because Californication is on Showtime, the network seems vaguely involved with the party -- which means, possibly - the stars of Homeland could show up?

On Friday, HBO will open the floodgates to its annual Luxury Lounge at the Four Seasons Doheny, the 10th annual. L’Oreal will be offering hair, makeup and manicure appointments to both HBO nominees and stars (Julianne Moore, Nicole Kidman and the stars of True Blood, Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire) and other Emmy nominees. In the past, this was a playground for Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, James Gandolfini and Edie Falco -- yes, it’s the kind of weekend guys get their nails buffed.

There’s such a good variety of great sponsors for the HBO Luxury Lounge along with L’Oreal -- Motorola, Pandora, Brahmin Handbags, Nautica, Uppababy, The James Hotel, Logitech, Basil Hayden bourbon and Michael Antonio footwear -- that the gift bags are sure to be sensation.
