Yes, that's Alexander Skarsgard.

The usually hunky True Blood star has drastically transformed his appearance for upcoming thriller, Hidden.

PHOTOS: Alexander's sexiest True Blood moments

Skarsgard, who turned 36 over the weekend, was photographed on set Monday in Vancouver, Canada looking shockingly thin and scruffy with long hair and a beard. The actor wore dirty, over-sized clothes that made him look even more gaunt

Hidden is about a family who seeks refuge in a fallout shelter to avoid a dangerous outbreak. The film costars Andrea Riseborough and Emily Alyn Lind.

The single Swedish-born actor relishes the chance to take off the fangs and persona of his vampire alter ego. "I spend seven months just playing Eric on True Blood," Skarsgard told BULLETT magazine in June. "But when I'm on hiatus, when I get my five months off, I'm not looking to play the same character again."

It's hard to tell if he's actually lost weight. Get some baggy pants , cinch them with a belt and he could look skinnier without actually losing a lot of weight. We've also seen him lose mass quickly when he stops working out. At least the wardrobe budget for this movie should be low. SalArmy?

i agree i dont think his lost too much weight, i think he just stopped going to the gym. the baggy clothes create an illusion that his is skinner than he is.

I disagree. I think he's lost weight (and a lot of it) for sure. It was noticeable in the first pics we got from Canada. It's most noticeable to me in his face. That wonderful Scandinavian bone structure is very revealing. He looks haggard to me, and its not just the clothes. The side view of his jaw sealed it for me. He's always been lean and fit, ...this is HiddenSkars/SkinnySkars/HungryJawSkars in my opinion.

Dude looks like he's fit to eat the butt out of a rhino.

I don't understand why people are always so surprised if he's not looking all beefy and bulky. This is his look for TB but not his normal stature. Normally he's the lanky skinny type and if he's not going to the gym regularly that is what he looks like. Nonetheless I have to say it's not that bad. My cousin is 1,90 m and vegetarian, Alex got nothing on him. He's actually looking quite healthy in comparison.

Yeah, they did, but that's not what I meant. I mean the look they go for. Doesn't necessarily have to be shot outside.

Of course for authenticity purposes I would have to agree.

Went for a drive up to Port Douglas and Mossman today and there are some truely beautiful beaches along that stretch. I would be move than happy so suggest possibly locations, some whale watching perhaps to "enocurage" him to come to Oz, again for authenticity purposes only.

Don't know if this has been already posted but a bit more about the movie from Vancitybuzz.

A Post-apocalyptic thriller ‘Hidden’ has begun filming in Vancouver. Staring Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood, Straw Dogs) and Andrea Riseborough (Never Let Me Go).

The film focuses on what seems on the surface to be a perfectly normal couple, Ray (Skarsgård), Claire (Riseborough) and their seven-year-old daughter, Zoe,( Emily Alyn Lind) are an average American family in Kingsville, North Carolina—except they have existed in a bomb shelter since escaping a day of devastation that changed everything.

For 301 days, they have transformed their cement prison into a home, holding on to memories of the past and hope for a normal life someday. And for 301 days, the family has eluded what looms above the surface—the heavy breathing and booming footsteps that punctuate the night, threatening their fragile existence.

All the while, the family has managed to stay hidden. Until now. Now their safe haven has been breached…and something is coming for them.

Produced by Warner Brothers and Directed by the Duffer brothers, the films synopsis has a reminders of “The Hills Have Eyes” meets “The Road”, but mostly reminds me of this European film called “Retreat”. The film is about a couple who are all alone on an island until this injured man is washed up on the shore. The injured man soon reveals that he carries a deadly message – an airborne virus is sweeping Europe and all their lives are under threat unless they take drastic action. He insists that the only way to avoid the fatal disease is to seal themselves in the cottage. So the couple basically barricades themselves in the cottage not knowing what is going on outside in the “real world” – while trying to protect themselves from “infected invaders” who want into their “haven”.

As you can see there have been many movies with the same premise. Hopefully “Hidden” will go beyond normal. If not, it’s always cool to watch films shot in the city you live in.

“Hidden” started shooting in Vancouver July 30th and will continue filming till September 18th, 2012 with a 2013 release.
