Happy Thursday, fellow Islanders! :beach:

A quick update for anyone interested in what has (and has not) occurred in my life during my prolonged absence from our Island.

1. Thanks only to my forbearance (and the knowledge that I would be the prime suspect should anything untoward occur) my relationship with my argumentative younger sister remains as it has always been. :lecture:

2. After a horrific fire burned my favorite auto repair shop to the ground, I’ve taken on the challenge of routine maintenance for our two 22 year old vehicles. So instead of buying bags I invested in a small but fashionable air compressor, portable battery charger, and other sundries to keep us going until I find a new auto repair shop I trust. :search:

3. Which seriously put a crimp in my DH’s former predilection to take our truck off road into our woods to supply us with firewood and (during deer season) our winter supply of venison. :crybaby:

4. Happily (for him) I suggested we apply my hard won knowledge of bags to his predicament. So instead of trying to make our truck perform as though it was an RTV (rough terrain vehicle) maybe we should consider…

Love the pic and the orange vehicle, Fim.:tup:
I am sure your husband is asking himself why on earth he had never considered buying such a lightweight and practical « car »
He looks very proud of it..:yahoo:

Proud doesn’t begin to describe how he feels, Mariapia. I’ve taken more pics of him and his RTV than I ever had of my bags! :roflmfao:

Happy Friday, fellow Islanders! :beach:

I’m a firm believer in that any bona fide bag lover needs at least one “beater bag” in their collection. :sneaky:

For me it’s my venerable Patricia Nash London.

The perfect bag for a Friday Fish fry, as one more (or less) drip of grease, ketchup, or coleslaw will only add to its…patina? :giggle:
Love the look of this “beater”!

Happy Friday, Tomsmom!

Love everything about this bag! The color, the quilting, the smoosh, its elegant chain paired with a more casual strap. The perfect amalgam of a bag that can effortlessly take you from day to evening. :hbeat:

Great choice!

Whenever I see this sort of bag , Fim, I always ask the sales assistant if the leather will darken or not….
Most of the time, the SA replies « Don’t worry, it won’t! »
That’s when I put it back on the shelf….and walk out of the store…
Your beater is a beauty, Fim…

In my experience all my vintage Patricia Nash and Dooney bags darken with age, Mariapia.

But that doesn’t seem to be the case with some of their more recent offerings. :confused1:

Which leads my suspicious devious mind down the path of what leather are they using these days?

Particularly since ground and pressed leather from scraps can still be marketed as “genuine leather.” :yucky:

Which technically is true. But given the choice between hamburger and steak, I prefer steak! 🤣

Hi everybody! I'm hoping I can find a home here, even though I will be purchasing my first luxury bags in the future. Right now my collection consists of thrift store finds, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Coach, Dooney, Maxx New York, Kenneth Cole, an older Ferragamo, a Marino Orlandi and a very strange purple quilted patent leather with brown leather trim that was made by a company called Jenifer Julia that appears to have shut down in 2011, but I have no other info on.

Welcome Luxable! :welcome

Welcome, Luxable! :welcome:

All of us on the Island are united by our love of bags no matter their price or origin.

For instance, I only own contemporary designer bags but that doesn’t prevent me from appreciating luxury designer bags even though from afar. :search:
