An update to my thread.

I spoke w/ my jeweller today & she told me they are working on creating a totally new prototype for my new diamond halo!

I asked whether I can keep the "cathedral" look & she stated it won't look as nice on the sides w/ the micropave going half-way down the band. So, it will look more "Leon Mege-esque".....similar to the Adrianna.

I hope I like it! I should know something early next week.
^a new prototype...how exciting!!!

Good news! A totally new prototype is a rare chance Contessa, I don't want to put any pressure and stress on you (ok maybe just a little:greengrin:) but you have a rare chance to do it YOUR way. I know you loove your stone and I agree it is gorgeous. Don't settle for anything less than what you already have. If you need breath down their neck to make it right and the way you like it. I know many goldsmiths want the easy way out and start marketing the styles they already have in stock by saying "popular choice" and "trust me I know what I'm doing". Ugh! the goldsmith isn't the one who is going to wear it and he doesn't know what you want unless you tell him the specifics clearly and insist.
Think of it as building your own house and you want big bathrooms and stone walls. If the contractor starts saying that small bathrooms and regular walls are the popular choice and he knows what he is doing, will you give in and let him do whatever he likes? You are the one who will live in the house, kwim?

Good luck with everything!
^:goodpost: stick to your guns & get what you want!

oh i see. Thanks! i am guessing that this is one of the criteria of a halo and the other is it must look like a raise up shape or something from the side view!

GL contessa! I hope the prototype is exactly what you were hoping for!!!!

I love the halo style....but can't seem to part with my current custom 3 stone setting.... I'll live vicariously through you!

The haloing of a ring is a glorious occasion. I can't wait to see what it will look like!!! Instead of a cathedral setting, is it going to look more like the profile of my ring (or do I have a cathedral setting? I'm not entirely sure what I have. . .)? Are you going to have a simple or an elaborate basket? Is it going to have diamonds or is it going to be plain? Sorry for all the questions!

^yes, your's has a cathedral:

The cathedral definitely makes the ring more delicate and fragile. Much is dependent on lifestyle, but I'm very careful with my jewellery in general.

I will see what my jeweller has this week.....hopefully, it's love! She knows my taste really well as she helped me choose my current setting which I  so I don't think this protoype will disappoint.

But I'll know soon enough!

Cathedral setting has its weak points. High arches are prone to getting caught on things (like clothes) and get banged up easier, that means the arches can loosen up and lose your center stone. Really depends on the person that wears the ring, desing specifics and luck. Sturdy cathedral claws are better than tension mounting though. The safest set is bezel.

Hmmm, I guess I just don't see how the 1st pics could possibly be more fragile than the 2nd{?} I agree w/ Leon about it.
Oh well! :D

Oo thanks Swanky! I see it now - the curves/arching of the setting. I'm really interested in seeing your ring Contessa. I was agonizing the entire week my ring was being resized. . .I don't know how you're doing it!
