yes I feel the same. I have a mini royal from previous seasons and it's like your first blu calf! but after seeing moss and rosa from this batch, I think something quite significant has changed... at least to me. :(

Just received my moss lady bag yesterday and I know exactly what you mean. Even though I dont have any other calf bags from previous releases for comparison, I was still surprised how matte and slightly rubbery this leather feels. Just feels really odd to me. Together with the smell, it just doesn't convey the premium impression that I expect from a bag of this price. I hope after applying leather conditioner and using it for awhile, it will develop some shine.

Knowing that previous batches had nicer leather, I feel kind of cheated with this. If only MG can explain the differences. I don't like feeling like they compromised on quality to meet demand, or worse - to raise margins and cash in while demand is strong.

Feeling you on this 100%. Not that I have any to compare to, but the quality was not what I had expected. Recieved my rosa which I was super excited about, but did not match my expectations. Doesn't feel like it will maintain structure in the long run.

Mines going back tomorrow :( I had thought it was fine until it it's been pointed out that it's not and nothing like last release. Even though I only ended up paying about USD$540 I think I would be annoyed if I kept it and the next release were nicer (though I won't buy at all if they hike the price up yet again).

I have to make a decision on my veg tanned mini mini this week as well as the calf. At least that's one decision made. Now to the mini mini.... I've become really indecisive as I've got older.

I'm in a similar boat and trying to decide whether to send back my moss mini crossbody. I sent back my flamma crossbody due to quality issues/ defects. The moss mini is a very beautiful colour and the bag is stunning without the quality issues I had with the flamma, but I agree the calf leather is not as luxe as I would expect based on previous reviews. The smell does not concern me too much as it should fade.

Mine doesn't actually smell too bad. Not what I'd have expected but not as bad as I've read. My issue is I don't want to pay out for something that is actually worse than previously released and if for some reason I want to onsell later I don't want this to be an issue for that. I have been up in the air because I don't know how calf wears in general and it's too early to tell from this release. So I'm going to return and I'll order again next time around providing the price point stays as is.

I'm not sure what to do about my lady bag. I love the design and the moss colour is really nice. Smell and matte-ness I can live with as I think it will improve with leather conditioner.

But I feel like it will get scratched up even more easily than veg tanned leather and won't wear as well. Any scratches or faded corners will be so obvious on the moss.

The calf should get less scratches than the veg tanned as its a treated / coated leather. Maybe check with some of the people on the Lady Bag thread as some of them have been using the calf Lady Bags for a few weeks now.

In the minority, no complaints about my moss calf lady-slight smell but it is going away slowly, I've had calf prior to this-white, cobalt, red, rosa - and this is equally as nice.

After a day of airing, I decided to keep my bag in its dust bag for the night. And accidentally scuffed it with my nail. It wasn't even a hard scratch but left a mark already.

But in any case, I have decided I love it very very very much, and am keeping it.

Interestingly, out of all my (too many) bags, there have only been 2 bags that received unprompted compliments from my husband. My black/flamma bucket and this moss lady. MG are definitely doing something right with their designs. I personally am still obsessed and would love to get a mini backpack in cammello next.
