I am seriously considering a 49 Sq Mi bag for my next handbag purchase. And in reading thru this thread, I think I'm just about there!:smile1: I'm looking for recommendations on my first plunge. For reference, I generally carry a smooshy matte leather BE, HH, or LP. I don't need a large bag that could hold files or a laptop or anything like that and I prefer ones that drape close to the body. I was looking at the Muse Top Zip in claret or even the convertible hobo in dyed washed canvas. Can't decide if the canvas one is too large though. Thoughts on what would make a good first 49 sq mi purchase? Leather, canvas, or even wool? Thanks!

Hi Jen.

The convertible canvas hobo does drape close to the body but is pretty large. ETA - at the fall launch party a couple of people were trying on the hobo but decided that it was to big. It may be better if you're taller. It also closes with a single snap. The muse is pretty cute - a med bag and the lambskin is smooshy so I think might recommend that instead of the canvas hobo. It's a bit smaller (about an inch shorter and narrower) and more squared off than the starlet which you could check out if you wanted different colors.

Here's the starlet thread - you can get a general idea of how drapey the leather is and what it might hold: http://forum.purseblog.com/handbags-and-purses/49-square-miles-sq-mi-starlet-zip-top-655896.html

As far as wool the messenger is briefcase sized and the duffle is weekender sized. I have the canvas version of the woolie crossbody and can post photos later if you want. It's decently small but I stuff it so it's not so drapey. Last year the wool bags did sell out earlier.

Let me know if you want pics.

Ooo, thanks for the link to the starlet thread. Seeing what fits definitely helps and maybe that would be my best option. It sounds like the larger wool bags are too large and the crossbody is too small. I need a Goldilocks wool bag, I guess!;) And thanks for the input on the canvas. I am not tall at all and super short waisted, so the canvas convertable hobo is most likely out. Thanks for your advice - truly helpful. Off to look at starlet colors and plan!

A medium wool bag would be nice though I already have the small and large ones. Maybe I'll ask about that if I'm at the shop anytime soon.

Ah the starlet might work for you then. I remember the first time I was at the shop trying on bags one of the other shoppers told me that they liked the starlet on me and that the others were too big because I'm kinda short.

Thanks again and while I'm deciding, I'll just enjoy the gorgeous pics you always post of the bags! (Right this second, I can't exactly say I *need* the current starlet colors. But I s'pose my bag collecting has nothing to do with need anyway!:graucho:)
