Hi all,
I hope some of you are online tonight because I need your help! I just found out that a bag I purchased through ebay was fake--Hermes won't work on it and said it was not an Hermes bag. What do I do first, contact the seller or report to Paypal and Ebay? I paid through Paypal.
:(

Whatever else you do, contact eBay and Paypal and open a case. Do not let another day go by. I know Paypal has a strict policy with time limits. Go one day over, and they cannot help you.

Thanks, Perigord. I thought I should give the seller a day to respond to me before opening a case, but I'm also feeling very antsy.

If you've had confirmation from Hermes that the bag is fake, I wouldn't waste any time trying to get a refund. You may find more assistance specific to Ebay/Paypal on the Ebay subforum.

Do you have the link to the auction?

You really need to make certain you know the date of the auction and the time limits for Paypal protection.

You can open a case and wait for a response at the same time.

Can you give a link to the auction? You can send a pm if you are more comfortable.

This is not the time to worry about accommodating the seller but rather it is the time to make sure you take all proper steps in case things go south. More than they have.

Perigord, I just PM'd you, but I forgot to mention that I am still within the time limit for filing disputes.

Thanks Mistikat, I just don't feel comfortable putting the link up here. The transaction occurred less than a week ago, and I received the fake on Monday. I got confirmation of its fake-ness this evening.

I agree with Perigord that if the seller is refusing to refund immediately, you should contact PayPal and open a claim. Not sure if you paid with credit card or bank balance but either way, I would get the process started. If you got anything in writing from Hermes, that would be helpful (though I doubt they would do that). The ladies on the Ebay subforum are very good at managing refund/Ebay issues so you might want to post there for specifics on what to do.

Sorry this happened to you.

I think it would be proper to post the link and get ideas. You do not need to get into a heated thing--but simply present the link and the facts.

I think it would be helpful. If the seller responds well, it will in the end not be a negative. If things become worse, posting will serve both as a source of help to you and a warning to others who search these threads--both near term and long term.

Okay guys, here it is. The link of shame...

What can I say, I got the Hermes-lust in my blood, couldn't stop myself. Anyway, I make sure to pay using a CC on Paypal, which is why I was confident in bidding, but now that I need to file, I'm worried that I won't get my money back. I just haven't done this before.

I opened a dispute on Paypal. Just wondering whether I should go through CC--when I started to file through the CC company, a message came up saying that they would cancel my Paypal dispute. What's better: a Paypal or CC dispute? I'm not sure which would be more efficient or quicker.

I imagine the seller knew it was fake. She said her husband had bought it for her. Likely she would have known whether he had spent thousands on a real bag.

Thanks Perigord and Mistikat.

I'll reply here, but this should be in the ebay forum IMHO. Paypal will be quicker than your CC. If Paypal denies your claim, THEN deal with your credit card company. Find out the length of time your cc company has for filing -- most are 60 days, BUT I can't guarantee that is your cc co's policy, y'know? Issues with credit card companies can take quite a while -- for me, it has taken up to 2 months for something to reversed off my cc account. BUT if Paypal decides in your favor, they'll refund in a much shorter period, I think.
