How does everyone think this bag will fair/wear with time?? Is it a foil coating over the leather? Do you think there’s a risk of the metallic ‘flaking’ ? Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts!

I saw the bag yesterday.

I personally feel that the bag is pleasant to the eye, photography beautiful. BUT not luxury to touch.

Leather indeed felt very dry and you could feel those wrinkle bumps by touching the leather. It’s very very different from the normal reissue distressed calfskin or normal Chanel metallic leather. Sorry, it’s hard to describe. Hope you know what I mean:P:P

If you put the rainbow reissue side by side with the 20A solid colour reissue, you will see the normal reissue leather feels so much more luxury than the rainbow one.

In addition, the rainbow reissue I saw yesterday already had a piece of metallic coating rubbed off despite the fact that the bag was opened freshly from the box right in front of my eyes. SA said the metallic is a layer of coating and that they probably missed that spot, but I felt that it was some paint being rubbed off. Therefore I personally think this is definitely a special occasion bag and that the metallic finish is very delicate.

But I admit that the bag is very very pretty to look at and photographs so well.

Just my 2 cents.:P

for me I think the bag is more durable then you would assume looking at it ( it does look very wrinkly:P). The winkles for me adds to the uniqueness of the bag because those winkles really reflect lights and it makes the bags shine have a really fun texture, it's hard to tell from photo how nice it looks you really need to go see it in person. to the touch it definitely feel like they had treated the leather and had put a metallic coat over the leather. When it comes to flaking, I think only time will tell, so far I haven't had any issue with that when I brought it out.
here's something I figured I'd share it might be useful in case you did decide to get it. I did buy two rainbow reissue One had 1 super tiny hairline scratch exposing the leather and the other had a tiny spot without coating. Both did not have leather damage. All I did was use a bit of chrome nail powder in the same shade to cover them up and it was like those defects were never there !
I'm going to try to use them as much as I can, I'm super happy to have them in my collection and I know if the coating rubbs off in some part it's easy to fix ( I used chrome nail powder, rubbed it on very gently on the missing spot, then used acrylic finisher( for leather) from angelus to seal it)

here's a before and afterScreenshot_20200725-224706.jpg

I bought them both knowing they both have tiny defects, I usually don't do this but since I knew I can fix it myself i had to get them since it's not easy to get them here , but I have no regrets!ps. i also asked the SA about sending it to chanel for repair and they said it could take a lonnnng time just to see if they CAN fix it so that was not an option .

both bags together:love:

Does it not bother you that you purchased these expensive pieces and then have to do a bit of DIY to repair them? Surely we should be getting them in pristine condition?

Completely agree, after much deliberating from photos I saw it in person this week and felt that the surface was quite dry. The manager in the boutique who was serving me at the time also said that this bag would have to be treated with care and not overly used to protect it. I feel that over time rubbing or peeling could occur. As much as I love and admire this bag I will be doing it from afar.
