April stats...

Don't say the month is already over. I must have looked at a million bags, shoes, dresses- a desperate need for dopamine. In the end there wasn't much out there for me.
Bags in: 2 ( the kisslock clutch I painted and a huge Dior Le Plisse which is on my worktable in the process of being repaired and refreshed.)

IMG_20250427_131150588_HDR.webpIMG_20250402_140159165_HDR.webp

The Zadig et Voltaire Rockyssime I bought was a total fail and went back.

No slgs in or out.

Though I stared at dresses a lot there wasn't any vintage out there that really called my name and I didn't settle just to buy anything. But yesterday I found a very early 50 ies black dress, didn't hesitate and bought it. It had been offered as a " size 38" which could have been on the small side. I asked for measurements, because I ' m never sure whether people refer to old sizes or modern sizes. Good I asked. The actual measurements are definetely generous and offer enough room for adjustments. I'm looking forward to getting it!
Other than this I bought a maxi batik wrap skirt at the fleemarket and 2 Carnival corsages off Vinted this month. The latter to have proper underpinnings for the 50 ies cocktail dress I plan to wear to DD's registry office wedding. I had ordered some brand new options from other brands. All went back. Even the Carnival needed some alterations, but they are so much better! And I bought a 90 ies nighty at the local charity shop. Some lace I had transformed it beautifully into the old fashioned slip I needed for my 30ies gown for DD's church wedding...

It always seems to end up in upcycling solutions for me. I tend to wish there were beautiful new things out there.

I lost the fight for self control this month! We went to Las Vegas and I had a shopping spree. The red Coach is a tiny purse but I plan to use it as a wallet so I'm counting it as a SLG. It was too adorable to leave behind. The cute zebra was a bargain from the Michael Kors outlet. Besides all of these, I bought 3 tops and ordered a pair of shoes, 2 pairs of sandals and a swimsuit.

Sales were dismal this month and not just because we were gone for part of the month. I sold a couple of home items and some jeans.

I got a lot of exercise shopping. I was worried I would have trouble with my foot but it wasn't too bad. I was happy that we came home when we did. I couldn't have handled another day with marathon walking. I used Uber for the first time.

It's already getting too hot to go on daily walks. I've been continuing exercising 3 times a week with the regimen the PT set up for me. I should be able to start swimming towards to the end of the month. I can hardly wait.

I carried 7 bags in April.

My daughter from New York is visiting in a couple weeks!
Looks like you had a lot of fun. Love the little Coach.

Love how you painted the clutch. Take pictures when the dresses are done.

Oh, this is fun. I’m going with Speing Colors, because I have this new buttercream colored bag I want to start using:

Also Closet Clear Out will fully ramp up this month. I plan on sending a large box to TRR.
That bag is a beautiful color!

Great haul! That horsey is so cute.

Love your new-to-you things and I look forward to seeing your cocktail dress.

I agree about the difficulty finding anything new and nice - even in designer/luxury stores. Most of the items are based on archives anyway, just not quite as well made. Tailoring I buy new (I'm not as talented as you) and occasionally I will buy basics new from the high street. As for occasion wear, I just shop from my wardrobe. I would like a new pair of shoes but I just don't want the hassle and at the hunt. I just want a pair of pretty party shoes that fit and are comfortable.

Shoes.... my Waterloo. I bought several pairs for DD's church wedding and I certainly already own several more. All perfect with the dress, but comfort is the problem! (And cobble stones in front of the church and having to drive...)

Atm I am leaning towards a pair of Schutz sandals. Fairly comfy and no loss in case they get ruined. Plus I bought a pair of Peter Kaiser granny mules for when the heels start hurting. Embarrassing, but nice to my feet....

I hear you re not well made. I had a close look at my younger daughter 's bridesmaid dress. It wasn't cheap, it looks nice, but I flat out refused to shorten it. The fabric is awfully cheap. I am not risking it starting to snag or run under the machine.... My own dress from 1937 cost about the same ( the most expensive piece of vintage I ever bought) but the fabric is gorgeous and I could size it up by several sizes without too much trouble...

I really want to see all the pics of the works in progress, before, after. . .anything you want to share. It all sounds stunning!
Are you sure? It's boring!
I have a before of the roach dress:
Screenshot_20250420-132607-296.webp
It zipped, but didn't fit and looked very boring on me. The bustline sat too high, the whole bodice was too tight, the hips were too big and the original 50 ies slim skirt had been 60fied to an a- line. It was a very unflattering ankle length.
The fit adjustments themselves were sheer chaos... I ended up taking most seams apart, doing a lot of unprofessional darts and finally side gussets. Fortunately the lining was hand sewn in - that makes adjustments easy.

That's while doing the scribbling. I never plan, I just go where the thread leads me.
And finally the finished product.

I'm ll try to take more pictures when my latest purchase arrives!

The cocktail dress is finished. Early 50 ies acetat faux silk. Shoes and bag will be leopard Dior Diva. All I need is a new face... won't happen.

In case of cooler weather this Is my alternative:

60ies a- line ( American , lightweight wool, with a union label) with matching jacket. It must have survived a moth convention. I did a lot of darning and then painted the design to cover up the mess...

Love both the dress and the cooler weather alternative. You are going to look gorgeous either way.

I’m jumping into the Spring colors challenge. Today’s beauty that accompanied me to the doctor is my Prada Naturale Studded Soft Calfskin Galleria Tote. This bag is incredibly well made which is a bit of a happy surprise for me since I know Prada had had some issues in the past. I absolutely love this bag and am glad I pushed past the price tag to get it.

When wearing it, the flat studs seem to soften and provide more of a glisten / glow to the bag. It’s an extremely beautiful effect.

Love seeing the before and after. Agree with @papertiger that your options are splendid. And so special and unique. Thank you so much for sharing these!

ETA: When you talk about your scribbles and stages of fittings and edits, your process reminds me of how the process of Suzanne Belperron was for her clients :D She also crafted her pieces to suit each individual, and it’s my understanding that she followed where the process led her too :)
