I. 2024 Year In Review Reflection
(Thanks @Vintage Leather)

Utilize these thought starters to evaluate your collection, your usage patterns and your lessons learned in 2024.
• What is your most useful purse?
• What is your best purchase of the year?
• We’ve all had a lot of lifestyle changes this year - how has it affected your style?
• What is the one thing we’ve learned this year that you want to take into the next?

II. Setting 2025 Goals
Take this month to consider what you want to do with your handbag collection, wardrobe or even your beautiful life in 2025. Share these thoughts in January when we start the 2026 Shopping Your Closet thread.

III. End of year optional challenges

• Holiday colors: December has many holidays celebrated across the world - red & green, brown & gold, blue & white and more! Pick the holiday that you want to honor and wear / show off your bags in those traditional colors.

• End with a bang: As we come to the last part of the year, wear the last bag you’ve purchased at least 3 times this month.

I purchased as much in December as I did in the entire rest of the year combined. Part was some good deals on things I had been looking for - part was stress shopping.

So goals:

Goal 1 was to eliminate 2024 items from my home, focusing on the big stuff and annoying stuff. I more than doubled this one.

I will say, hiring someone to haul away everything that didn’t fit in boxes was very helpful in increasing my outs for the year. In things I got rid of, I eliminated 10 pieces of furniture, consigned three pieces of art to a gallery, and sold/donated two sets of dishes. And eliminated a banker’s box of shredding.

Goal 2 was to knock out some unfinished projects. This one was a qualified success. I did get almost all the listed things done - the knives sent in, the shawl knitted, one of the journals done. But there were a few months I didn’t get anything done - and I added a few projects towards the end.

Goal 3 was to work on language studies, and this one was an abysmal failure. Well, can’t win ‘em all.

Goal 4, stop the bag churn. Cut back on shopping, and don’t let myself think things like “and then I can sell it…”. Well, I donated a lot, and sold a respectable amount. And I got rid of my “it’s a very nice sized box” collection. But I don’t think I’m ready to stop selling yet. I’m giving myself until July, and anything that hasn’t sold by then needs to be donated or melted and remade.

Shopping has been my hobby, and selling old stuff has been how I’ve afforded my shopping hobby. But I feel like my life has been dictated by stuff. So much of the stress in moving was “will my stuff make it” and “have I packed it all” and the sheer cost of moving it.

What an achievement!

Happy New Year!❤️

These are the Coach Gotham Duffle 24. They are part of the men’s collection. I bought the charcoal grey/black & the camo one was a Christmas gift. I used the charcoal one all weekend & loved it. Will definitely buy another if they get released in more colors.

Congratulations, they are so, so special and so you :congrats:

Guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr!

Our neighbors invited us to a pris fixe dinner tonight - and then were too sick to come. It was charming, and we’re back at home in time to comfort the cats from the fireworks (when they really start in an hour the cats will abandon us for under the bed).

Wore silk blouse,wide-legged slacks, semi-fancy jewelry. The Lulu Guinness clutch I’ve had for years but never worn. I had planned to wear the white minaudiere that was my last purse purchase, but it didn’t fit the phone.

Got back from travels yesterday; carried red purses for the holidays:

The leather Le Pliages are my most practical purses this year. The totes get used all the time for travel and carrying my laptop, and the leather get grabbed because crossbodies are just so easy.

Happy new year, all!

You look beautiful! Happy New Year

I don't know if there will be a more general thread but Bvlgari has made their Serpenti bracelet with rubies for the year of the snake.
https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/bulgari-serpenti-viper-ruby-demi.1072902/#post-36213801

I got a Chinese snake stuffed animal for my friend's 2 year old. Should have taken a photo before gifting it but the way it was designed was super cute. A cute cartoon snake.

Loewe's lunar collection is out.

Not sure how I feel about it. I was surprised they didn't use the color red for the snakes.
And for some reason they're emphasizing on clouds. I understand the symbolic meaning of the cloud in Chinese culture of course, but kind of expected a more snake-related collection.

Companies seemed to have embraced dragons but recoiled at snakes. It's such a shame, snakes are so beautiful.

Wear the dress!

View attachment 6109753

For my fancy evening plans to be on my couch reading a John Grisham novel tonight, I'm wearing a 90ies prom dress (shortened and minus its ridiculous chiffon trim) with fishnet tights and my comfy cashmere jumper on top.
I must admit that the shearling slippers kind of ruin the look 😂

Happy New Year!

Totally en point! You have natural style, I hope you had a wonderful evening

Major congratulations for your sort out. I've also been shredding and shredding and shredding...

I don't have a picture, but last night I wore an Etro print dress, an embroidered cashmere n/s tank over, Gucci crocodile belt, Gucci silk scarf. Hermes Evie bag (I was carrying presents so had to be hands-free).
I went to my cousins who made a full-on, child-friendly afternoon tea with selection of sandwiches, scones and cakes. We played Monopoly and other board games in the evening. I was also introduced to Bluey, a cartoon dog

December stats:
Bags In: 0
Bags Out: 2
SLG In: 0
SLG Out: 2
Scarves Out: 2
Scarves in: 0 (but I have my eye on 2 for after the NY)
RTW Out 4
RTW In 2 (Satin jacket from my aunt for Christmas and I bought a silk dress in the sale)
Jewellery Out: 6
Jewellery In: 1 (vintage modernist Tiffany brooch) I still have to pick it up.
I have shredded sacks of papers for months and months. Going through papers and 'bits' takes the longest time.

I didn't keep a record of all stats for the year, but there is now space under my stair cupboard.

December Stats
Bags in 4-I bought one and the rest were Christmas gifts.
Bags out 2
slgs in-0
slgs out-0
Sport/ Travel bags in 3-One is probably going to be a gift, but since they have not all arrived, yet I will count them all in for now.
Sport/Travel bag out 0
I have stuck to my space limitations for 2024. My budget was fine. Did quite a bit of stress shopping, but stayed within my budget and allotted space. A couple of gifts throughout the year have taken up precious, but I figure out what to do with those in the new year. Hope everyone had a Happy New Years Eve and will enjoy a fantastic New Year.

I started a new thread for 2025 which is now in an approval queue.

If you have any special themes or challenges you'd like to explore to help in our quest for better shopping from our closets, once the thread is up someone can post and the new list pinned to the top of each page.

Does anybody have any special challenges for 2025?

I would like to explore how to use my evening bags more and more often. E.g. I worked out I have had my Gucci, violet lizard Hysteria clutch since 2009 and only used it a maximum of 10 times. It's much too nice to hide away and not use.

December 2024 stats
  • 0 bags in; 0 bags out
  • 7 / 14 bags used
  • For most used bag: YSL black on black envelope bag and my Gucci Jackie!
  • SLGs: 1 in / 0 out
  • Accessories: 0 in / 0 out
  • Shoes: 2 in / 0 out (1 being a Christmas gift)
  • Jewelry: 0 in / 0 out
  • Clothes: 0 in/ 1 out
I don’t think I had specific goals for 2024 besides keeping up with my 2 bags a year or 1 in, 1 out bag policy.
My general rule is to be more mindful of my purchases, sell less as a result and getting more cost per wear.
I think overall I purchased less than previous years and sold less stuff. Though I still sold some things here and there, hope one day I’ll get to the point of not selling at all. Definitely used a variety of bags more this year thanks to this thread and its challenges.

Happy New Year everyone!:heart:I’ll see you all in the 2025 thread with my 2025 goals!

Very nice - I would have never guessed that used to be a prom dress.
My fancy evening plans involve me sitting on the couch, watching tv & trying to get over these germs I’ve caught.

Happy New Year! Wishing everyone a healthy, prosperous and fabulous 2025!
Thank you! Yes, it's some fairly basic American prom dress from a " red" job lot I bought for one 60 ies piece when some vintage dealer closed their eBay shop. It's been in a box for ages until I realized it didn't take more than removing the chiffon ruffles and taking it up (cutting off the very distressed lower 20 cms) to free the simple bias cut slip it is.

I hope your germs left with the old year! Get well soon!

Totally en point! You have natural style, I hope you had a wonderful evening
You are so kind! I felt at peace, thank you! I hope you enjoyed your evening, too.
Later my nocturnal DS kept me awake into morning by an online gaming session with friends. He has no sense of how loud he speaks and headphones make it worse. Well, never mind... other 15- year- olds certainly had rowdy parties with actual people in the house.

December stats

...next attempt... the system ate my post halfway through.

No bags or slgs in or out. There's nothing tempting out there and I'm happy with what I already have. I think second hand prices have become ridiculous.

I bought some old clothes and shoes in December, though.
The best purchase certainly was the job lot with the Springolators.
A pair of 80 ies fashion cowgirls boots popped up for sale, too and I bought them. They have become fairly rare.

These 'angels' are certainly testing. I was with a very relentlessly spirited 7 year old who threatened to break the windows with a football at one particular high(spirited) point. I can't imagine what she will be like in 8 years time ;)

I think you would approve. Our evening ended by playing 'Project Runway' with dolls as models and making outfits from scraps of leftover fabric. I was mentor and in charge of scissors and pins and two mummies and grandmother were judges for the challenges.

Unfortunately, there was no 'accessories wall' but it did mean we didn't have to deal with broken glass on NYE.
