December Activities and Challenges - pick and choose as you please.

I. 2024 Year In Review Reflection
(Thanks @Vintage Leather)

Utilize these thought starters to evaluate your collection, your usage patterns and your lessons learned in 2024.
• What is your most useful purse?
• What is your best purchase of the year?
• We’ve all had a lot of lifestyle changes this year - how has it affected your style?
• What is the one thing we’ve learned this year that you want to take into the next?

II. Setting 2025 Goals
Take this month to consider what you want to do with your handbag collection, wardrobe or even your beautiful life in 2025. Share these thoughts in January when we start the 2026 Shopping Your Closet thread.

III. End of year optional challenges

• Holiday colors: December has many holidays celebrated across the world - red & green, brown & gold, blue & white and more! Pick the holiday that you want to honor and wear / show off your bags in those traditional colors.

• End with a bang: As we come to the last part of the year, wear the last bag you’ve purchased at least 3 times this month.

@Vlad please pin this to the top of our thread.

If anyone starts a year of the snake thread, please let me know. I like to see what all the designers do to commemorate it. Snakes aren't my favorite animal but maybe someone can make it cute or pretty.
I don’t have it anymore (my Mum hated it so I sold it when I moved back), but when I lived in Paris I had a Boucheron serpent ring which curled around and had eyes and sharp teeth.
I used to bite her fingers with it(!), I think it freaked her out, although I thought it was cute at the time….

You are so kind. Don't worry, please, I might be feeling a little low, but nobody will take my hobby away. I don't know, why I even let my DS' comments make me feel low.

He takes everything literally and usually has no perception for potential while all I usually see in the seemingly random cheap pieces I buy is their potential...

The dresses in question are a late 60 ies two piece (dress and jacket) in the strangest shade of pastel orange I' ve ever seen and an early 60 ies silver- blueish brocade evening gown. He hated them at first sight, because both need to be washed and both are not black, which is the colour he knows me in. For now they are in the basement until I will muster the energy to clean them and try them on in front of a mirror. I never got that far...

For Christmas I gave him a vintage leather jacket I had to put a lot of work into. (Severe cleaning, several repairs, colour change) He is a fan of Tyler Durden from the Fight Club movie and was keen on his red jacket. I couldn't find the correct cut/style, but I found the Potential to get the vibe in a true vintage handmade 80 ies biker jacket... Had DS seen the jacket the day it arrived he wouldn't have touched it ( I almost gave up, because it was absolutely not as described) ...
Now he is very happy with it even though he still questions how I managed to make it the colour from the photo without losing the true vintage patina.... well, I just did...

BTW he absolutely did not believe in my painted coat until it was finished and he saw me wear it. Until then he kept questioning why I was scribbling and winging the design.

And I 'm playing with a very tattered 1930 ies devore velvet dress- black and so far unchallenged.
I love your creations. I specially enjoy the before and after shots.

I don't know if there will be a more general thread but Bvlgari has made their Serpenti bracelet with rubies for the year of the snake.

I got a Chinese snake stuffed animal for my friend's 2 year old. Should have taken a photo before gifting it but the way it was designed was super cute. A cute cartoon snake.

Loewe's lunar collection is out.

Not sure how I feel about it. I was surprised they didn't use the color red for the snakes.
And for some reason they're emphasizing on clouds. I understand the symbolic meaning of the cloud in Chinese culture of course, but kind of expected a more snake-related collection.

That’s true-I know it sounds ridiculous , but I would give Anything to still be able to dance with Northern Ballet Theatre!

All of my dreams(when I do sleep) are set in Paris(where I lived for 9 years), and I’m a ballerina in them..
That was a beautiful time in your past. Don’t lose the beauty of today focusing on yesterday.

I’m coming into happy peace with my planned short term ban for several reasons.

The positive ones:
• I’m no longer lurking the tPF pages and shopping sites that were tempting me. Along with not buying, that’s had the added benefit of calming down a bit of the mental “crazy” that goes along with being in an acquisitive mode.

• I’m really happy with my collection as it stands and look forward to refreshing my wardrobe to match.

And the negative:
• NOTHING I’ve listed for sale - not bags, clothes or household items is moving. 😱 It’s like the resale market has disappeared. This is especially surprising to me as this is the holiday season when I see most of my items sell. I’m truly puzzled. That being said, not being able to resell what I no longer want has really put me “off” buying new.

I have barely sold anything lately too. Only thing that went was new with tag. Though to honest at holiday time I only buy new for the gifts I give. It is after the holidays that I will look at things that are not NWT. Hopefully things move in the new year.

I've been selling since 2010. I used to buy things at thrift and outlet stores to resell. Every year up through 2018 was more profitable than the year before. Since then, every year has been worse. It continues to trend down even though I have more items for sale now than ever before. I think there are too many "official" resale sites, like Rebag, Fashionphile, the Real Real, etc.. that people perceive as being safer than resale sites with individual sellers.

Things have always been a little slower around Christmas as most people want to buy new for gifts.

It's no longer viable to buy things at thrifts for resale for the most part as there are very few bargains to be found. Most thrifts have priced their items similar to ebay or pull out all the good items to sell online. All the resale sites have raised their fees so profit margins are shrinking. I'm ready to quit but have too much inventory.

Thank you! The clouds are kind of surprising. I wonder if they thought people wouldn't be receptive to snakes. If it was my zodiac sign, I would probably want to get something representative of it.

Thanks for the informed comment. What you shared helps explain what I’m seeing.

I’m thinking I’ll slash prices just to get these things out of my house. It’s just SO frustrating. And this REALLY confirms my decision to ban / hard pause and be very cautious about buying.

It’s now officially New Year’s Eve!

I’d like to wish everyone a Happy and Healthy 2025!

After the family funeral in November, I was actually quite pleased that December whizzed past in a whirlwind of parties and family events, although I’m devastated by the condition that my poor Mum is in.

As I’ve written, my New Year resolution is a temporary clothing ban.
I’m really nervous about this, as I love fashion and clothes shopping so much.
When I was a raw denim nerd, I made a denim ban, but not publicly, but of course broke it.
Having put this here, if I fail, I look ridiculous..
My favourite time of the year is usually when the Spring Summer collections come into the stores, so I’m doomed to fail..
My girlfriend and I have a day out on the 10th, so I may last no longer than then.

Hopefully everyone else here is more sensible than me!

Anyway , Happy New Year everyone and I look forward to sharing another year with you all!❤️❤️❤️❤️

It sounds like you are already dreading the ban. What if perhaps you set a certain amount you can spend on fashion or what ever each month. If you don't spend it you can add it to the following months amount. It will control your spending and still give you a bit of fun.

I will still be spending-I’m just trying not to buy clothes(trying).
I’ll start with January-maybe I won’t get through that!

I’ll still be shopping on our day out(footwear is ok), just clothes..
I’m not even really sure why I’m doing this tbh ..

IF I succeed, then going shopping for fashion will be a big victory, but my love of fashion may win over.

I even have a book about Rose Bertin, Marie Antoinette’s couturier…the odds of success are pretty low.
