December Activities and Challenges - pick and choose as you please.

I. 2024 Year In Review Reflection
(Thanks @Vintage Leather)

Utilize these thought starters to evaluate your collection, your usage patterns and your lessons learned in 2024.
• What is your most useful purse?
• What is your best purchase of the year?
• We’ve all had a lot of lifestyle changes this year - how has it affected your style?
• What is the one thing we’ve learned this year that you want to take into the next?

II. Setting 2025 Goals
Take this month to consider what you want to do with your handbag collection, wardrobe or even your beautiful life in 2025. Share these thoughts in January when we start the 2026 Shopping Your Closet thread.

III. End of year optional challenges

• Holiday colors: December has many holidays celebrated across the world - red & green, brown & gold, blue & white and more! Pick the holiday that you want to honor and wear / show off your bags in those traditional colors.

• End with a bang: As we come to the last part of the year, wear the last bag you’ve purchased at least 3 times this month.

@Vlad please pin this to the top of our thread.

I’m shocked I’m doing really well with Challenge #4. I thought I’d really struggle with finding functionality beyond my usual top picks. But I’ve happily worn 5 other bags so far this month. The rotation and variety is making me fall back in love with my collection as a whole. I’m feeling much more purse content here in Ban Island Super Max. Lol!

Today I flew in for my 1 week post op visit. I wore a bag that DS gifted me last year because he knows I’m an over the top Hello Kitty fan!

Question for all of you: I hate putting my bags under the seat because that space is filthy from shoes, old food, people throwing up, diapers, etc. I’ve started bringing 2 small trash bags with me and placing my handbag inside a plastic bag for protection right before I slip it under my seat but I don’t like the waste.

What do you do to protect your bags from dirty floors and overhead bins?

So cute! I think there's a Hello Kitty anniversary soon

Classics never go out of fashion, but they are vintage so challenge #2:

Yesterday I wore my Gucci black Horseshoe shoulder bag (such a wonderful bag) and today with my Gucci Half-moon hobo. Both days with my McQueen tortoiseshell patent card holder.

Actually, I'm not sure I'm sure what's out of fashion. What do you think is out of fashion where you live?

Maybe it’s something like a Hello Kitty Judith Leiber?

I’m just trying to think what might compliment your current collection and taste, without being a burden.
If Mr. S spent Judith Leiber money on an HK novelty bag I’ll hand build a dog house and stuff him in there! Now, I need to go give him a good glare on general principles. :sneaky:

Thanks! Yes, 2024 is HK’s 50th anniversary and my children will no longer get an inheritance because I’ve spent it all on HK merchandise. :roflmfao: I’ve bought 50th anniversary HK pillows, curtain tiebacks, backpack, lunch kit, duffle bag, comforter, blankets, sheets, wall art, desk items, mugs, tennis shoes, hoodie, and a full 9 foot tree worth of Christmas ornaments… amongst other things. I have an art / sewing room in our house in my home town and transformed it into a Hello Kitty haven. :kitty::giggle: Mr. S just laughs and encourages my tom foolery! We need an adult around here!

Whoops! Maybe instead of giving a preemptive glare to Mr. S, I need to go straight to the mirror and give myself a few hard glares. LOL!

Great items!

In my area, the biggest trends that are out are skinny jeans / skinny pants, cropped slim jackets, felt hats, stick straight hair, Utah curls, so called “old money” chic, micro (and to some extent mini) bags and stilettos.

They will pry my stilettos off of my cold, dead feet. I love all kinds of high heels - which some people find amusing since I’m 5’8” and not hurting for height.

Keep rocking those heels!

I've worn DM boots as long as I can remember, they seem to be having a revival, coz suddenly everyone's complementing me on my footwear and are so upset the model's discontinued.

Funnily, I bought some beautiful, high-heel, black, suede boots this year so I will be joining you (as soon as I can find a kind muscular person to carry me places :D).

It's so hard to tell what's in/out here because the looks are so segmented by age and circumstance. My neighbours have new cars and buy things for their houses all the time, but their clothes, hair (and makeup) doesn't seemed to have changed for the decade I've lived here. Sweats, and stretchy. All the woman seem to dye their hair light-blonde, tan, spend social time at the gym, the people in town just wear whatever their little group's wearing.

Having said that, I live on the computer belt, pre-C19 the men and women on the morning trains were mostly in suits, a variety of shoes, and I could smell scent wherever I went. All I see on the trains everywhere now is padded plastic, mostly black and trainers/sneakers. Men's bags have gone from messenger to backpacks. If I used to come home late at night, it was like a party on the train, the noise and mayhem was a pain but now I'm a bit sad. Now, no parties, just people coming home tired from long days at work.

I don't know whether you have heard of the brand Alviero Martini, Ist Classe. I have this weekender

It was one of my first 'designer' bags and my parents bought it for me so it has sentimental value in some ways, but I have lots of things from my parents. The bag is canvas with leather trim. It's almost crazy to think AM still make the bag because mine must be '90s.

Sadly, on a trip to Australia more than a decade ago, a coach driver yanked the bag by one handle whilst still wedged in the undercarriage of the coach and ripped the canvas where one side of the handle was attached. Afterwards, I just used it to store papers under the stairs.

I'm going through the papers inside, keep/shred

Question:

Shall I repair the bag?

I already know it will never be as strong as it was, and the mend will show. I don't know if I can trust the bag to travel with. The quote is £165 because the canvas has to be reinforced before reattaching the handle. There is printed canvas that's been ripped-off under the handle that will have to be separated, but it can't be rejoined. There will be a square of stitches where the reinforcement is underneath. The print may hide the mend little bit (I'm thinking).

or

Shall I chuck it (keep the shoulder strap)?

I am a bit torn. I'm leaning with chucking it because I don't need the hassle right now - and who knows what kind of repair it'll be.

As you know I have plenty of weekend bags, Gucci, Hermes, utility. I'm not going to be stuck for a travel bag.

What would you do?

Remember it fondly and let it go. As per your initial instinct. :)

In my area, low rise is extinct. Leggings are no more. Bags are getting bigger. Chanel and other luxury brands are bringing back slimmer cut jeans and trousers in the midst of fuller cut jeans. Younger people continue to wear slim cropped or normal length tops and fuller cut pants. If people wear heels, they tend to be chunky.

People still get highlights, but almost no one is tan. :)

It’s November, but it was warm for a couple of days, so I wore a straw hat; two summer toile bags; a denim jacket; and a silk shirt and skirt (separately) for the last time this year. My colors are usually pretty muted.

You look great!

In West End (central) London, I would say fashion demographics is/are similar

Hair in ponytail or chinion is also popular with hoop earrings with Millennials . I have a ponytail today but because I'm wearing a tat, with H studs.

I love low-rise. Because of my short waist I think they suit me better. I'm wearing high-waisted wide-legs today and they're ok, but all that tucking in of tees and shirts is a PITA :D Praying for the return of the low-rise!

Ha. I have a long waist. I get excited about high-rise waists because they just about hit my natural waist.

(The low-waists of the early’00s were fun, when I was underweight and doing a lot of Pilates. Even then they only got worn to the nightclub. :P )

I was actually appreciating the croptop-with-normal-waist look I was seeing this summer - that’s fun skin for young people with the more flattering half of the belly to show off! :)

You will pleased to hear I am persevering with my high-waisted wide-legs pants/trousers. I always have to remember to layer all the tucky-in-ness; tee-shirt/shirt down, tights up. I have some bodies I've hidden from myself somewhere which will make it easier :search:

I have faith in your impeccable style, and the trousers sound dreamy, but, you know, wear what pleases you!

Today’s purchases were a purple velvet blazer and a lined wool cardigan in black with adorable pastel floral embroidery, from a local thrift store. Madly in love with both, though the pastel embroidery is a bit too… something… for me. Still couldn’t leave it there.

The charity shop I support has a 'Black Tie' event coming-up before Christmas. I gave lots of vintage party things I don't think I ever got around to wearing and the most beautiful full-on 1950s beaded taffeta cocktail dress (too small for me).

Chucked in some tiny '00s cashmere jumpers and a yellow-beige (nude?) Joseph leather jacket (obviously bought in a moment of weakness). The back of the jacket was lovely, so was the lab leather, but I don't walk backwards (normally) and the colour was awful on me :D.

2 bags included in the donation An original 1960s red beaded raffia bag (like the ones Shrimps copied a few years ago). It had a beaded chain too. I also chucked in a fab late-1980s black suede and patent clutch, an Italian brand, but not recognizable currently. I do have a few pangs, but I never used them.

'Globe' weekender is staying out one more week before I ether make a charm/coaster from it or just toss.

Thank you :winkiss: . Wide pants have to hang right, even more so if they're high-waisted. Really love the half belt at the back so I don't like to wear anything that covers the feature.

They sound interesting!

I bought a deep purple, velvet blazer (actually part of a suit but the trousers were sold out) from Jigsaw last year (sale). I know they are everywhere almost every year for holiday season, but a velvet jacket looks so fab all year long, over jeans, silk maxi skirt/dress, mini. You won't regret your velvet blazer purchase.

I would have to see the cardigan, but it sounds like it could be cool. Black and pastel is unusual. Chuck it on with something unexpected, it may neutralize the 'something'
