2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

Carried my Lady Dior recently, so decided to post a picture for black bag week (forgot to take an action picture in the mall). I love black bags, and was trying to think which one was my favorite, but honestly, it's hard to choose. I will say the Lady Dior is right up there at the top -- it took my breath away when I first saw the bag! I still love this bag!

I actually don’t do clutches if I can help it. I tend to store the straps inside of the bags where ever possible. How do you store long straps?
I usually take them off and roll them up and store them inside the bag. My BV knot clutch has a chain that cannot be removed, so I slip it inside the clutch, and it's so thin that it doesn't occupy much space. For clutches, I prefer detachable chains or straps whenever possible.

Love the pattern on the laptop case!

I’m also feeling ready for spring. And I agree, a spring and summer wardrobe is calling out for white sneakers. I love a pair of canvas white Keds in the summer. So seasonal and light on the foot. They even dry fast compared to regular shoes when wet, and somehow in warm seasons, my shoes get wet more often. I wear them a lot throughout spring and summer and by the end of the season, they look rough so usually aren't good for more than that year. But last year I got some leather ones. I still prefer the look of the canvas, but I wanted to see if these would last longer, and it looks like they will. They should be good for at least one more season. So if I get 2 seasons out of them instead of 1, for only 20% more in cost, I get 2x the wear.

The other thing I go through a lot are white tees. Those also don't look great for more than 1 or 2 years, so might get another white top, another pair of linen pants, and my favorite for warm weather, another spring/summer dress.
I don't trust myself with white canvas sneakers. They would drive me crazy trying to keep them clean. Whenever I get a white tee, I spill something on it that stains so I avoid wearing white. I have a white leather pair of sneakers I got a few years ago that are still in good condition. I have canvas sneakers in other colors.

I don't anticipate adding much to my wardrobe this spring.

Why I wear black t shirts more often than white myself

i love black bags, but don’t wear them as much as other neutrals anymore. The 28K retourne (a covid deal) has been loaned out to a friend for months (I don’t have the courage to rehome it permanently bc it’s one of those forever bags, but I’m more a sellier K than a retourne K person. Now that clutches and bags are tiny, I do wear the K longue wallet as a clutch. It fits the iPhone 14, cc, a key, and wipes.

I loved my vintage deal crinoline trims and Vespa, but never wore them bc I was afraid of damaging the crinoline, so gave them to friends  The last pic was the bag that got away. Mary Katrantzou for Bulgari. Gold HW which is not usually my preference. No doubt it’s built up in my head, so I’m not all that sad I missed it. Sold out before I knew it existed.

I also have gray and navy bags that look black, but not included here. And, I included patterned bags that are mainly black, but not patterned bags than are partially black. I first saw the bottega Boston bag with lizard swirls at Saks over a decade ago. Back then it was almost 4K. Fast forward a number of years and I got it for about 300 USD from fashionphile. Worth the wait, but given infrequency of wear, I paid the right price. I probably wear the dior men’s saddle the most which is odd bc I hated the saddle the first time around. Great travel bag.

The Chanel stingray has always been one of my favorites.

Attached straps are stored inside bags. Straps that are interchangeable or aren't used every time I use a bag are kept on a hanger thing in my closet. I think it was originally designed for belts. Something like this but not this particular one: https://www.onlyhangers.com/products/wooden-specialty-belt-hanger-walnut-brass

Once again, I feel like an underperformer. I have 2 black bags, both Coach, both from 2nd hand market. The Swagger was used in good condition and the Willis was new with tags. Prior to last year, I don't think I'd ever had a black bag. I tend to not like black, and don't wear a lot of black either, though my appreciation is growing for it as a color. In fact, the only other color that I have even 2 of is brown (eta: correction, I guess I have two reds, though one is so bright orange-red and the other is so dark wine, I sometimes forget those are the "same" color)

I bought the Willis last year and kept it in my closet forever. Though I had bought it, for the longest time I thought I wasn't going to keep it. Maybe gift it, since it had tags, or re-sell it. It was cute, but so small. I tend to not like small bags as I'm with my kids a lot and just like having my stuff with me. But when I went to a conference last week, I was in need of a bag that was small enough to comfortably carry for hours going to and from talks and walking around the city but also not so casual that it looked out of place with other attendees and their business casual look (though I just wore a sweater and jeans). Anyway, I didn't have any other bags that could fit that need, so I pulled this out from the back of the closet, and it was just perfect. I really enjoyed carrying it, and am now super fond of that little turn lock. It was a tight squeeze for even the bare essentials for me, but it worked, and I walked, conferenced, and even bussed to a botanic garden with it.

Now, does it count as a new bag for March, if I first wore it in March, even though I bought it last summer? :hrmm:

I count mine based on the date it is delivered to me - since I have to have 99.9% of my bags shipped to me.

My black bags. The group pictures I took last year aren't very good. I haven't gotten any new black bags. Black is not my happy color. I only get a black bag if that is the only thing available or if there is something special about the bag.
1. Coach mini studded Preston from 2014 - I fell in love with this at first sight, even though I thought I might be too old for it. It reminds me of a cute little dog that thinks it is fierce.
2. Henri Bendel No. 7 camera bag from 2014 - I love this bag. It is my going out to dinner bag. The lambskin is so soft and the quilting pattern is unique.
3. Coach large slim shoulder bag from 2001 - I got this at Goodwill. A few years ago I had the flowers added to the strap to match the charm I put on there. I was hoping that would make me love the bag more but I still don't use it much.
4. Coach curb chain whiplash Dakotah from 2014 - this is one of my favorite bags. It is the first bag designed by Stuart Vevers for Coach.
5. Coach buckle bag from the 1970s - very rare vintage style that I love having in my collection
6. Coach Gramercy small satchel from 1998 - from a line of Coach made in Italy, absolutely amazing quality.
7. Coach Sheridan Marietta drawstring from the 1990s, also made in Italy - it's adorable
8. Michael Kors Manhattan from 2019 - another favorite.

Amazing colour on your Evelyne!
Mar. 19: Black

Well, I could flood the thread with black bags, but I guess you´ve seen almost all of my black beauties before...
But I impulse bought a cheap vintage black bag on ebay yesterday:

Now I´m waiting for it to be shipped and arrive and hopefully be as nice as I expect it to be. The listing said it´s 38cm wide, so should be quite big.
What a cool shape, congratulations!

Although it's still cold outside here, I am already starting to assemble my spring capsule wardrobe together. Is anyone else looking at their spring wardrobes, and maybe coming up with a shopping list? I realized that for starters, I need new white sneakers, and maybe even new white trousers or jeans.

I’ve been looking for new blouses lately. Last year I went on a spree and got lots of summer sundresses so fortunately I won’t need many more. But I do feel like I need some lightweight and comfortable blouses.

@baghabitz34, your LC raffia bag is perfect for spring/summer! I actually don't have a straw, wicker or raffia bag (except for an older crossbody from college days), so it's something that I would love to add to my collection for spring/summer.

If you start hunting for straw or wicker bags do share your search!!! I love these kinds of bags way too much and did a lot of hunting last year.
