2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

Why I wear black t shirts more often than white myself

i love black bags, but don’t wear them as much as other neutrals anymore. The 28K retourne (a covid deal) has been loaned out to a friend for months (I don’t have the courage to rehome it permanently bc it’s one of those forever bags, but I’m more a sellier K than a retourne K person. Now that clutches and bags are tiny, I do wear the K longue wallet as a clutch. It fits the iPhone 14, cc, a key, and wipes.

I loved my vintage deal crinoline trims and Vespa, but never wore them bc I was afraid of damaging the crinoline, so gave them to friends  The last pic was the bag that got away. Mary Katrantzou for Bulgari. Gold HW which is not usually my preference. No doubt it’s built up in my head, so I’m not all that sad I missed it. Sold out before I knew it existed.

I also have gray and navy bags that look black, but not included here. And, I included patterned bags that are mainly black, but not patterned bags than are partially black. I first saw the bottega Boston bag with lizard swirls at Saks over a decade ago. Back then it was almost 4K. Fast forward a number of years and I got it for about 300 USD from fashionphile. Worth the wait, but given infrequency of wear, I paid the right price. I probably wear the dior men’s saddle the most which is odd bc I hated the saddle the first time around. Great travel bag.

Beautiful bags! Just curious what your inspiration was for the personalization of your Dior with the common meaning of ‘you’re welcome´, ‘it’s nothing’, literally ‘of nothing’, on your bag? I always love hearing the back story if you don’t mind sharing  .

Getting my only green bag in under the wire!!

Gorgeous! What a beautiful color!
Mar. 19: Black

Well, I could flood the thread with black bags, but I guess you´ve seen almost all of my black beauties before...
But I impulse bought a cheap vintage black bag on ebay yesterday:

Now I´m waiting for it to be shipped and arrive and hopefully be as nice as I expect it to be. The listing said it´s 38cm wide, so should be quite big.
Love everything about this bag! Please post more pics once it arrives.
I’m also feeling ready for spring. And I agree, a spring and summer wardrobe is calling out for white sneakers. I love a pair of canvas white Keds in the summer. So seasonal and light on the foot. They even dry fast compared to regular shoes when wet, and somehow in warm seasons, my shoes get wet more often. I wear them a lot throughout spring and summer and by the end of the season, they look rough so usually aren't good for more than that year. But last year I got some leather ones. I still prefer the look of the canvas, but I wanted to see if these would last longer, and it looks like they will. They should be good for at least one more season. So if I get 2 seasons out of them instead of 1, for only 20% more in cost, I get 2x the wear.

The other thing I go through a lot are white tees. Those also don't look great for more than 1 or 2 years, so might get another white top, another pair of linen pants, and my favorite for warm weather, another spring/summer dress.
Cotton tee shirts are a big part of my wardrobe year-round, and I have them in a variety of colors, sleeve lengths and even some patterns. I like wearing natural fibers as the first layer close to the skin for everyday wear, and cotton tees fit the bill very nicely and are easy to care for. In the colder months, I will wear a long-sleeve tee and layer with a cardigan, etc. In spring and summer, I love a crisp white tee myself, but like @880, I am also partial to black tees as they are so easy to maintain. I adore white cotton eyelet tops and shirts too. Cream and ivory blouses with the tiniest bit of eyelet or lace detail are a favorite for the warmer months too and dress up an outfit very quickly. I can throw them on over a skirt or jeans, add a pair of hoops and a bracelet, a great bag, and some strappy heels or other footwear, and I'm good to go.

I like your shopping list! I hadn't considered leather sneakers, but now thinking I should probably look into them. Dresses are really my favorite, since they're so easy to style, so I will probably add a couple of spring/summer dresses soon.

@Purses & Perfumes I’ve been getting ready for warm weather for over a month now. In cold weather, I’m in either boots or high top sneakers. So I’ve bought some low tops. Bought the raffia LC I posted a few pages back. Also skirts, tees & lightweight pants.
@nyeredzi I’m the same with white tees. They tend to look dingy after a season or two, no matter how I care for them.
I like white sneakers too, but since I have big feet I don’t wear them too often. They make my feet look bigger.

Thanks, it’s actually not even a story. DH and I end up saying thank you to each other a lot. But we don’t like to say you‘re welcome. So when we were goofing around and our SA was pushing to get my name on the bag, DH came up with this. . . It also works bc DH hates monogram, so nothing is better than that

Awesome! Love it! Thanks for sharing :hbeat:

I am one of those who believes that one can't have too many black bags. I love a colour-pop with outfits, but very often I just want my bag to be the least noticeable thing about my outfit - any occasion. A belief that bears out that my best black bags will span 2 posts

Parking my black bag before I don't get a chance with what will be a busy weeks (probably my go-to colour).

You have a beautiful collection of black bags. And the BV is a fantastic find! I hope you will have a chance to wear it more often -- it looks great on you!

@dcooney4, is that a silk clutch? (the last picture in your chic black bag collection). It's very pretty and I love a kisslock closure.

@baghabitz34, your LC raffia bag is perfect for spring/summer! I actually don't have a straw, wicker or raffia bag (except for an older crossbody from college days), so it's something that I would love to add to my collection for spring/summer.

There are so many styles of with sneakers out there…it really is a matter of trying on different styles/brands and you will find one that looks good. I have a low instep, which makes my foot look longer than it is. I found that classic Tretorns, besides being majorly comfortable, make my feet look smaller.

I am not sure what the fabric is as there is no tag inside it. I have trouble touching silk so it quite possibly could be because I don’t carry it.

Once again, I feel like an underperformer. I have 2 black bags, both Coach, both from 2nd hand market. The Swagger was used in good condition and the Willis was new with tags. Prior to last year, I don't think I'd ever had a black bag. I tend to not like black, and don't wear a lot of black either, though my appreciation is growing for it as a color. In fact, the only other color that I have even 2 of is brown (eta: correction, I guess I have two reds, though one is so bright orange-red and the other is so dark wine, I sometimes forget those are the "same" color)

black bags.jpg

I bought the Willis last year and kept it in my closet forever. Though I had bought it, for the longest time I thought I wasn't going to keep it. Maybe gift it, since it had tags, or re-sell it. It was cute, but so small. I tend to not like small bags as I'm with my kids a lot and just like having my stuff with me. But when I went to a conference last week, I was in need of a bag that was small enough to comfortably carry for hours going to and from talks and walking around the city but also not so casual that it looked out of place with other attendees and their business casual look (though I just wore a sweater and jeans). Anyway, I didn't have any other bags that could fit that need, so I pulled this out from the back of the closet, and it was just perfect. I really enjoyed carrying it, and am now super fond of that little turn lock. It was a tight squeeze for even the bare essentials for me, but it worked, and I walked, conferenced, and even bussed to a botanic garden with it.

Now, does it count as a new bag for March, if I first wore it in March, even though I bought it last summer? :hrmm:

I love your Willis. Always liked the style but only ever saw it in smooth glove tanned leather. The quilting really adds a nice touch!
