2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

Hello everyone
Like others, I’ve been having a tough time so I’ve been more MIA than I had anticipated. Not health related. Got laid off over the summer & have not been able to find another job. It’s not a good time to be in STEM.

Trying to not be too depressed about it. Going to start doing things I’ve wanted to do but have not had the time for before.

I’ve caught up on the thread & have enjoyed seeing everyone’s lovely bags. Since I’ve missed most of the brand weeks, I won’t spam the thread with pics. I’ll share some pics of my favorites though.
I’m so sorry to hear this. Not sure what industry you’re in, or where you’re located, but I know tech and STEM have been taking a beating. Fingers crossed you’re able to find something you love soon. Hugs!

OMG, one of my favorite purchases of all time used to be these bed socks, which I can’t find anymore. Clearly I need to learn how to crochet!
I think these booties work so well because they aren't tight. There is a layer of air between my foot and the bootie and my foot warms up quickly, kind of the way a thermal blanket works.

Dearest @baghabitz34 , I am sorry to hear you got laid off. I am in STEM too. I have been laid off, too, not currently, and I remember the hurt. I see you dear STEM sister, and I send you hugs. If you ever need to vent we’re here for you. :hugs:

I'm so sorry! The market is really tough right now and a lot of people are in this position. Don't give up hope; your dream job will hopefully be right around the corner.
In the meantime, yes, please do share bag pics! I always get giddy when you post your Ferragamo studio bag.

I really want to share a superb moment I just had amidst otherwise challenging times. I hope you guys don't mind a short story.

I gave away a bag this morning. :shrugs:
This bag I gave away a few days ago was unplanned. The person I gave it to was someone who lives in my neighbourhood and whom I've seen walking with her twin boys a few times. Her kids look like adorable cherubs and attract a lot of attention, lol!

We've never interacted but, that day, I was getting in an early morning walk when I noticed her looking really upset.
I had just moisturized the bag to use myself and it was looking really lovely. When I saw her, I ran home and grabbed it to give to her. I don't know what compelled me but it just felt necessary in the moment. I felt better after doing it, as I had been depressed myself, and thought nothing more of it.

Well, she ran over to me on my walk this morning and, without saying a word, crouched down to touch my feet then kissed the top of my head. I stood frozen and confused, then she explained in broken English that, where she's from, this is a tribal custom to show respect.
She was carrying my bag and lovingly petting it as she thanked me. From what I understood with our language barrier, she's never had a real leather bag before! Such an honour to be the one to give her the first!

Life's so funny, isn't it? I'm not even supposed to be living where I am now! Had I been elsewhere and done the same thing, I may have been chased away for approaching a stranger, or I may have offended her by giving her something that wasn't new.
But here I was, in the right place at the right time, giving the bag to the right person. No risk, no offence, simply joy.

I've always loved and used leather goods. I'm ashamed to admit that I had forgotten that this is something that is unattainable for many. I had become accustomed to thinking that premier bags are unattainable but, this exchange was a reminder that even contemporary leather goods are out of reach for many.

My only hope now is that I don't see this woman again. It would be painfully awkward. As it is, this is such a beautiful moment that I'm going to tuck away in my heart.

What a lovely, kind gesture! I feel like good karma is just around the corner for you :hugs:
@baghabitz34 , thinking of you and sending positive vibes. Cannot say it better than @More bags!

I don’t carry specific bags for the holiday season, but if we are traveling to see family, I use my feutre felt navy evelyn TPM.
it’s lightweight and stuffable.

Thank you for allowing me to share! That Coach bag looked a million times better on her than it did me. It found its way to the right person.
Last year i purchased a Coach x Peanuts camera bag (because Snoopy hugging Woodstock!) and a Kate Spade card case that looks like a gingerbread house, so I got those out yesterday. I have one of the holiday LV bandeaus from a few years ago (the London one). I was going to tie that onto my LV Damier Ebene Speedy 20, but remembered the LV Monogram V Tote BB in Cherry DH got me for Christmas several years ago, so tied it to that instead. Looks very festive! And I just purchased a Japan exclusive Laduree holiday charm from eBay, so I clipped that to my LV Damier Ebene Neveferfull MM, into which I just switched. I normally don’t “wear” holiday, but I couldn’t resist.

And your kindness never ceases to amaze me. What an amazing person you are! I aspire to be more like you; what a wonderful example you set.

Extremely kind, thoughtful and generous of you!

The bag surely ended up with the right home.

I'm addressing these comments first because I'm rather overwhelmed by them! Thank you all so much but you're far too generous with your praise and I really don't deserve any of it. It's just dumb luck.

I'm currently living in a community that houses people who are in need of financial and/or medical aid (I myself fell into this category this year, but hopefully that won't be the case for long). Being here means that I'm surrounded by people in need and who are open to receiving! It has made me rather brave because I know the recipients would not be offended (we're all in the same boat). It also helps that we're still wearing our covid masks so there's a bit of a sense of safety in that barrier.

Had I been back home, I wouldn't have been so brave so as to approach her and offer a gift like this. She would never have trusted me and would have assumed it was laced with poison or I was about to snatch the twins! The cops would certainly have been called.

@dcooney4 Yes! It feels like it was waiting just for her, as weird as that sounds. It's the coach crosstown neon whiplash bag that I shared some time ago (though I doubt anyone will remember). The colour and style suits her so much, probably because she is much younger than me.

Edit bag name because I got it wrong the first time, lol

I try to wear those shiny bags more and any real tiny one during the holidays.
I'm doing that this year. I've pulled out my Hammitt Nash in gunmetal. It's tiny and sparkly, so perfect for the season. 🎄

I've never seen a felt Evelyne! What a practical travel bag, though. Genius!
Also, I keep wanting to see more of your rainbow Bolide. Will have to search for any mod shots you may have posted recently.

Love, love, love! I don't remember the Coach x Peanuts collection at all! I'm going to be looking for pics now.
And a gingerbread house! I can't! So adorable!
Once you've started carrying them all, will you please post mod shots in here? I'd love to see each one. They sound incredible! That Japan exclusive charm has got me intrigued... :graucho:
