2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

Happy to chime in. Although my experience is limited to Old Bottega/Tomas Maier bags. The quality and durability of Old BV is incredible. The intrecciato weave is nice and tight, and these bags still look good after many years of use. Corners can get scuffed on some styles, but thats easily touched up by a leather pro. The non intrecciato Cervo totes (baseball hobo and Loop hobo) are also great hobo styles. The TM Garda is another wonderful style and was the inspiration for the Andiamo. You can still find nice TM bags on the resale market in excellent condition. The quality and durability is amazing. These are investment bags and will last a lifetime if cared for properly.

I did purchase and return a couple of New Bottega styles b/c i did not care for the larger, looser weave, and did not find the leather quality to be at the same level. Sadly this is also the case for most brands as we all know — Chanel, LV, etc. so I am not throwing shade on New Bottega - there are quality differences now in most newer brands. That said, og BVettes have reported that the new mini mini Cabats are really great quality. I don’t know yet about the Andiamo but at its pricepoint i would think the quality will be comparable to the Cabats. The leather looks good in pix, nice and thick. Whereas the leather on some styles appears to be bonded leather — Jodies, mini Jodies, Loop camera bags etc. One og BVette mentioned recently that her small Jodie which is a couple of years old, looks very worn. Its not aging well. Yet her 20 year old traditional Veneta still looks amazing.

Another gal started a thread about her purple Loop camera bag. The leather is peeling off and the bag looks terrible, and she said she was not hard on it and hadn’t had it very long. The Nodini is a similar style, the TM version. I have several and they are aging really well in comparison. One is my beater bag - i use it when its pouring etc. its been through the wars, and except for a little corner wear, looks great. I purchased it from a BVette who carried it daily for a few years. It looks better then that purple Loop that was not carried much. I will be really curious to see in a couple of years how these bags are holding up, as time passes. The larger, loose weave does not appear to age well, and its interesting to see that the new CD has been creating some bags with smaller intrecciato then the DL designs showcased. That should make a difference in longevity and durability.
My very old and carried hundreds of times and in bad weather. Besides a little corner wear she looks great.

I think there could be a difference between different colors. There was someone on the forum who had a nodini that wore very quickly. I think it was fuchsia.

It's a shame how shabby the purple bag looks but impressive how impeccable your bag looks after much use. A true beauty. Are you in Savannah? I noticed the name on your menu and had a flashback to a place I dined when I was visiting savannah a few years ago!

Just realized it was Longchamp week and coincidentally just made my first couple of longchamp purchases.... mint suede Roseau hobo purchased in Paris 2 weeks ago and a few small items purchased this week while in Chicago: sunglasses, keychain, and small scarf which unfortunately looks wrinkly in photo but wanted to share bc I loved the blue and the butterfly (design reminded me of a traditional tattoo vibe).

@jbags07 , thank you for all this info :hugs::hugs::hugs:if you would like to share your collection outside of the BV sub forum, pls consider us here. We‘ve been showing BV bags since August (Hermes was relatively recent; we’re going alphabetically lol
hugs
Thank you for tagging me :hugs: Happy to share/participate!

I would be happy to share my bags here. Its a great thread - i’ve joined in in past years but found it difficult to keep up with, it goes fast!

If i pick things up now, should i just jump in and share current designers? Or add my BV and H in too?

It would be good for me to shop my own closet, and enjoy the bags i have right now

The thread is pretty casual, but you can scroll up to the stickie on the to0 of the screen (re theme weeks) to see specific designer week recommendations. Hugs

Oh thats interesting! I will try to find that post. I have a lot of nodini colors and so far they are wearing really well. I do rotate a lot tho, almost daily.

Thank you :) the quality of Old BV is what drew me to the brand, and the intrecciato…..i have quite a few older bags and they generally age really well.

We are on the GA coast but not in Savannah. We go once a month b/c our dogs neuro vet is there, so we try to get a lunch in too. Hope you enjoyed your trip — Savannah is a beautiful old Southern city

My Hermes bags, photographed on a cheap gray throw (because everything else in the apartment is covered in cat hair OMG it never stops):
  • Trim 38s in pale gray and dark green
  • Yeohs in cerf and fabric, both black, plus the smaller bags that can be zipped to the (box?) handle instead, in silver something and b/w horsehair
  • generic black box clutch (the original product came strapped to a leather journal in contrasting color; I like this as a clutch)

And my namesake investigating. You can see her shedding right there spontaneously.

The SLGs are a little out of control, though not all of them are H:

Currently carrying a bright blue Calvi Duo not pictured.

And belatedly, including a Dior wallet, my only Dior item (maybe aside from a jacket somewhere waiting until I lose weight). I bought it very used because I love @Sparkletastic 's Diorama so very very much and wanted to see if I could live with it. Answer, no: It's so very fragile, so very heavy, and in a bag it would wear me instead of the other way around. I will just lust over Dioramas from afar.

Fabulous Trim Is, my favourite. Your SLG is not 'out of control' it's an 'extensive collection' :D beautiful rainbow of colours, and absolutely purrfect kitty

Yes, the antigona soft is probably the closest to what I am looking for. It will be a while before I can get to a store to try it on though, but will update when I do. I will also look at some of the others, thanks for the excellent suggestions. I'm hesitant about the andiamo because of the intreciatto (sp?) weave which reads a bit more delicate to me, especially for an everyday bag. I must try the studio bag in soft the next time I am at the store. I need to plan a shopping day sometime soon, ha!

Intreccio is more delicate (but not impossible) in the satin calf but I find it very durable in deer (Cervo).

I think the Andiamo is lovely too (calf) but the straps run-through the loops back and forth and I was worried about the rubbing. However, wanting a beautiful Andiamo made me search for and find my Roma which is basically similar but stronger and holds more (deeper). I hadn't worn mine for 5 years, suddenly I am in-love again. I would recommend looking at a pre-loved Med for you which has a shoulder strap (I have the Large with is only hand-held)

.

This is a used Andiamo. The style has not been out for very long. If you zoom in and look closely at all the pix, the wear on this bag is pretty bad imo. It took years of carrying to get this kind of wear on Old Bottegas. At this pricepoint i would not want to feel like i meed to baby a bag.

Albeit this is a very light color, the wear on this bag  And in the last pic the way the color has worn off, this looks to me like bonded leather?

It's not bonded leather, it's the rubbing of the calf that the bag's strap endures going endlessly through the loops. Just imagine how sore your finger would be if someone roughly and quickly shoved on and pulled off a ring 100 x a day.
