2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

I'm impressed.... it sounds like you know exactly what you want. Now you just have to find the perfect bag. Is zipper a must- have?
Ha ha, thank you! I may sound like I really know what I want, but sometimes I end up getting swayed in the moment, and throwing practical considerations aside, and getting something that catches my fancy, and wasn't planned at all!
But this time, as I plan to use this as my errand bag, I do want to stick to what has worked for me. A top zipper is not necessarily a must-have, but I will still need a zipper pocket inside the bag that is large enough to fit a mid-sized wallet.

Ha, I can totally relate to being impulsive. I'm trying to think of any bags that come to mind that for your description.... what about the Bottega Veneta andiamo? I also keep thinking of a Prada saffiano bag I have but it has a logo.

I do think the antigona soft a good choice. Let me know how you like it, I haven't seen that one in person either. I also like the Ferragamo vara bow top handle but looks like only comes in black or brown. The studio bag might work as well and also now comes in a "soft" version.

Yes, the antigona soft is probably the closest to what I am looking for. It will be a while before I can get to a store to try it on though, but will update when I do. I will also look at some of the others, thanks for the excellent suggestions. I'm hesitant about the andiamo because of the intreciatto (sp?) weave which reads a bit more delicate to me, especially for an everyday bag. I must try the studio bag in soft the next time I am at the store. I need to plan a shopping day sometime soon, ha!

@Purses & Perfumes , I have two metallic intrecciato bags, a mini cabat and a Veneta. I believe both are from the maier era, and they are incredibly sturdy. In fact, I wear them in all weather. I did own a matte leather, medium gray Veneta that I gave to a friend. I just never wore it. Ans, I would probably Would not have carried that one in a downpour. But, on the whole, I would not consider any intreciatto delicate. Have fun deciding

Like @Purses & Perfumes, I’ve also been considering an intrecciato bag (I’m a sucker for a tote and theirs are gorgeous), but have been concerned it would be too delicate, so this is great information. TY! Oh, and you have very lucky friends.

Thank you  It occurred to me that the metallic tones would also hide discoloration or changes in shades well, so I am tagging @jbags07 and @V0N1B2 . They would both have a much more nuanced, and definitely better informed, viewpoint on the durability of intrecciato. Hoping they see this and chime in. :flowers:

Thank you, this is good to know. I was mainly worried about corner wear with the intrecciato bags. Now I am looking at the andiamo with renewed interest, and looking forward to trying it on when I have the chance!

Happy to chime in. Although my experience is limited to Old Bottega/Tomas Maier bags. The quality and durability of Old BV is incredible. The intrecciato weave is nice and tight, and these bags still look good after many years of use. Corners can get scuffed on some styles, but thats easily touched up by a leather pro. The non intrecciato Cervo totes (baseball hobo and Loop hobo) are also great hobo styles. The TM Garda is another wonderful style and was the inspiration for the Andiamo. You can still find nice TM bags on the resale market in excellent condition. The quality and durability is amazing. These are investment bags and will last a lifetime if cared for properly.

I did purchase and return a couple of New Bottega styles b/c i did not care for the larger, looser weave, and did not find the leather quality to be at the same level. Sadly this is also the case for most brands as we all know — Chanel, LV, etc. so I am not throwing shade on New Bottega - there are quality differences now in most newer brands. That said, og BVettes have reported that the new mini mini Cabats are really great quality. I don’t know yet about the Andiamo but at its pricepoint i would think the quality will be comparable to the Cabats. The leather looks good in pix, nice and thick. Whereas the leather on some styles appears to be bonded leather — Jodies, mini Jodies, Loop camera bags etc. One og BVette mentioned recently that her small Jodie which is a couple of years old, looks very worn. Its not aging well. Yet her 20 year old traditional Veneta still looks amazing.

Another gal started a thread about her purple Loop camera bag. The leather is peeling off and the bag looks terrible, and she said she was not hard on it and hadn’t had it very long. The Nodini is a similar style, the TM version. I have several and they are aging really well in comparison. One is my beater bag - i use it when its pouring etc. its been through the wars, and except for a little corner wear, looks great. I purchased it from a BVette who carried it daily for a few years. It looks better then that purple Loop that was not carried much. I will be really curious to see in a couple of years how these bags are holding up, as time passes. The larger, loose weave does not appear to age well, and its interesting to see that the new CD has been creating some bags with smaller intrecciato then the DL designs showcased. That should make a difference in longevity and durability.
My very old and carried hundreds of times and in bad weather. Besides a little corner wear she looks great.

Thank you for taking the time to post a very detailed reply. Much appreciated! I have to admit I’m not a fan of the bigger, looser weaving, so coupled with this information that they aren’t holding up well will keep me from buying one. Your Nodini sure is beautiful, but that Loop? Oof…

Happy to help! Its all just my opinion, of course. I wish i lived near a boutique so i could go feel all the new bag styles lol. Personally i think the jodies, mini jodies are cute — a fresh updated look for the traditional veneta — i won’t buy bags that aren’t durable tho. I will probably add a mini mini Cabat at some point b/c it seems like the quality is better on these.

This is a used Andiamo. The style has not been out for very long. If you zoom in and look closely at all the pix, the wear on this bag is pretty bad imo. It took years of carrying to get this kind of wear on Old Bottegas. At this pricepoint i would not want to feel like i meed to baby a bag.

Albeit this is a very light color, the wear on this bag  And in the last pic the way the color has worn off, this looks to me like bonded leather?

Wow, @jbags07, what a wealth of information, with pics! That was very useful, thank you, and thanks also to @880 for tagging you. I too am not a fan of the wider weaving on the newer bags anyway, so this makes me think I would need to look at the older TM era bags if I want to go with a BV for my everyday bag. Oh, and I love your Nodini -- gorgeous blue color!

My pleasure, these are just my insights though. There might be folks out there who have newer bags that are wearing better then what i posted. I posed the question over in the BV chat thread, hopefully folks will chime in!

If u decide to look for an older BV, there are good bags out there in excellent condition. You just need to hunt, b/c they sell pretty fast usually.

Thank you for your kind words regarding my Nodini :) these are the best crossbody bags, they were produced in so many beautiful colors
