2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

Some bags for this weeks theme. I have some Evies but I’ve posted those quite a bit as they’re my most worn style, so I’ll spare you those. These are bags I don’t think I’ve posted as much. Most of my bags are either tan or dark jewel colours. I’m not a pastels girl!

Victoria ( rubis, clemence), Saut 25 (BFauferg) and Garden Party (vert cypres, negonda)

And bolides, rigide (raisin) and mou (rouge h) both are togo leather

Simply beautiful! I love the lines on these.

Thank you! Such a lovely post :hugs:

Your journey sounds far more painful than mine, in every way.

DH has an appointment tomorrow, when hopefully he'll get his treatment plan. I think both he (and I) were in shock for a while. Just as you say, let the docs do their thing.

Maybe, I will tell him the good news. If he gives me some good news or is less introspective, I'll tell him ;)
I've been thinking about you and hope yesterday's appointment went well. Sending good vibes/prayers and whatever else your way.

Sorry, this week has been a rollercoaster

The search function is not working for me today. Not pictured, Chalk Small Horse bit chain shoulder bag, Black travel tote bag (with white contrast stitching) Olive Large Bouvier (like a Jackie but flatter) and Tabasco Med Horse-bit Chain Hobo, can't think what else.
Lovely lovely Gucci bags papertiger!
Thank you!

I apologies to all
for the miss-mash, I wanted to find the lesser known ones and take pics (why is 'Search' not working?) and I wanted to group them more aesthetically.

But hey, now you know what a mess my wardrobe looks like. I know where everything is because I don't group by colour (I do it by brand, category and occasion).

DH has been diagnosed with a bad illness this week (I haven't even told my family) and I have a permanent knot in my stomach. More hospital visits and feeling very helpless to come I suppose. Too much to even go there.

On the other hand, I had 100% PDR rating at work after my first year in a new job - and I was told that's the first time anyone has ever had 100%. I would feel too guilty to share with DH, and I can't share at work because it would feel like bragging, esp. if someone didn't do some well.

On the other hand my next route canal treatment is going to cost well over £1K over average, because it has to be done by one of two dentists in the country (average price is about £350 private). I have the money, but it's definitely a bl**dy dent in my Winter wardrobe money. On the other hand, I'm lucky the specialist gave me the appointment. On the other hand, he's fixing what another (bad) dentist did, and I've had a lot of that. So far my teeth have cost me over £20K this year and the work's not over.

Bag wise I have another that needs to go. A small white tote. Anyone knows why on earth I bought a small, soft, white leather tote? :cray: Not big enough to shop with, not small enough to be a cute, hand-held mini, handles too short for my shoulder even with no jacket, too soft to carry with too little in, no pockets, no lining and WHITE :rolleyes: . I suppose it may be good to carry water and lunch(?) but I wish it had longer handles.

I have two bags to repair as well. One is DH's Marc Jacobs messenger I bought for him, and he loves it, and the other is my Kurt Geiger Kensington bottle carrier (DH bought it for me a few years ago). Both sentimental.

Do any of you bother with repairs for bags that are not worth much?
oh dear.
First - I'm sending you hugs and hope that things will improve, that DH makes major improvements quickly and easily.
Second - take care of yourself too.
Third - UGH - tooth issues. It has to be done though! (I have a major issue that will have to be fixed soon too but I am dragging my heels)
Fourth - Congratulations on your 100% rating - that's fantastic!
Just got back from Paris (truly the trip of a lifetime and filled with gorgeous handbag eye candy) and am getting caught up. Just pulled out all my Gucci stuff and thought easiest to take 1 group photo. Don't mind rolled up dining room rug from when I had water heater leak... still waiting for insurance to resolve that!

ETA: I forgot to include my Gucci tiger WOC (adding photo).

Wow - beautiful!
I’m so sorry re DH, and I’m crossing my fingers for a speedy recovery. The teeth are sadly a necessary expense.
And, congratulations on your professional rating. This is so exciting that you are the first, and no one has accomplished this before. perhaps hearing about this will cheer DH up. we are all here for you to commiserate, or if you need to vent, though as usual, @jblended said it better :hugs: Hugs

Yes, absolutely I spend for repairs for any item I love, even if it’s not worth much. Bc its worth a lot to me.

since it’s the start of H week, here is a bag that even my FSH SA had not seen before as it is a new kind of toile. She was very excited about it and so am I. 30B, toile maxi bivouac veau swift, phw (ficelle nero). With 28K quadrille on a couch covered in jean castalbajac fabric from 1991. And, with DHs Nero vache Hunter Evelyne sellier. And an older box K28 back from H SPA and HW replacement (they told me the color was Bleu indigo). I took both pics to try to show that the scratches evolve into a patina.

DHs mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and she wanted to make one last trip to visit us (we normally fly out to visit her). One of the highlights of our conversations has been the subject of our two year gut renovation. We’ve been able to distract her with contractor stories and site pics. We were hoping to have it done, but we won’t quite make it. But, here is my bag area awaiting curved glass doors to share with you :smile: (I took my Duret bag to confirm the shelves had adequate clearance

So beautiful!
I'm very sorry about your MIL, but glad you were able to visit with her and distract her.
I'm quite out of step with the thread so I'm not sure if we've done stats already? :hrmm:

I had one more bag go out yesterday. My stuff is mostly in storage so I can't recall my totals for the year, but more out than in (and the bags in were gifted).

I'm contemplating selling the pride and joy of my collection. Some of you may remember my bespoke lantern python (no pics to hand, but hopefully someone remembers it lol). It's the only one that's worth anything so it may have to go. The only obstacle is that my current location isn't great for resale unless it's premiere bags. The disposable incomes are high and people can grab their own exotic from H, so I have to hope that my quirky design will appeal to someone more than the more recognizable brands.

I'm also considering selling my 'football' bag. That one is so unique and the full grain leather is divine. When I had it made, it was one of a kind, but now there are many similar on the market (which means I could replace it one day when my situation is better). However, it's harder to consider letting it go because it ties right back to childhood memories and the leather is amongst the best I've ever laid my hands on.
The contemporary bags in my collection are worth nothing, so I don't think I could move them if I tried.

Never thought I'd see the day I would be selling. It's my first time actually seriously considering it and it's proving difficult because my bespoke pieces are so special to me. Oh well, needs must. We'll see what happens. There's every chance nobody wants them so I get to hoard them forever!!! :P
oooo - selling a pride and joy?!?
Is this a sudden decision? If so maybe put it away and come back after a couple weeks - I'd hate for you to sell it and then regret it!
I made an impulse purchase last week of this smooshfest of a bag from Deadly Ponies in their sale. It’s been fun watching it make its way to England from the other side of the world in NZ. I really like it, it’s a good mid size, and I love the leather. Made from deerskin and the hardware is all solid brass (I am partial to a quality zip on a bag :lol:).

excellent stats! Glad you're still having fun!
Sorry I’ve been MIA. Work is busy this year. Been enjoying everyone’s posts!! :heart:

September stats
Bags = 0 bags in/ 1 bags out
  • 7/11 bags used.
  • No bag was the most used this month. Pretty even spread this time.
  • I felt this one coming. I sold my YSL Cassandra bag. It just no longer suites my tastes and was one of my least worn bags in the last 2 years.
SLGs = 1 in/ 1 out
  • After 8 years of near constant use, my LV 6 ring key holder (damier ebene graphite) has been replaced by another LV key holder in the monogram graphite.
  • Sold a YSL wallet, too big and I mainly use cardholders now.
Jewelry = 0 in/ 0 out
Shoes = 0 in/ 1 out
  • sold another pair wedding shoes (I had 3), this was my most nostalgic one but I had to let it go, it wasn’t doing any good sitting on a shelf
Accessories = 0 in/ 1 out
  • sold a Burberry keychain, forgot I had it lol, it was sitting in a drawer
Clothes = 8 in/ 11 out
wow - so many sells - good for you!
Oops... that´s another month gone by. Did I buy bags? I really have to think about this and have a look around... oh yes, the boxcalf bag from the fleamarket for sure.

Plus September was my birthday month. DH gifted me two black, but very different, clutches and silly me bought myself a Dior HG bag to admire and be afraid of ruining. No proper photos yet, sorry!

40ies clutch in the background, 60ies clutch in the foreground. The latter is actual croc and has a very heavy frame.

My Birthday present to myself: Dior Samourai 1947.
It's the huge ( over 40cms) and certainly least coveted model of the range, but If feels very special to me.
oh my gosh - that is a lovely Dior!

Purses in or out - 0
Scarves in or out - 0 out, 1 in - one of my favorite designs Cache Cache Fleurie in Blanc/Rouge/Vert.

Purses carried - 10 different purses. Most carried was a tie between the Gucci 'Kelly' and the Just Campagne Confort 1... which is kinda funny because they're both the same color but one has a shoulder strap and the other is a tote. Proving that the Gucci was a GREAT purchase and the Just Campagne still deserves space in my closet.

Books read/finished - Tom Lake (audible, good but didn't love), Revelator (uh scary 'religion' in the Appalachian mountains), and The Shell Seekers (a re-read). Currently reading The Once and Future Witches.

Another large donation went out - finally got the last of the wine cases out! :party:
New carpet and hard flooring, 2 new Toto toilets, and a new comfy chair for the family room was ordered. Some landscaping work has been done (by my dog-sitter :lol: - she needed something to do, so found something!)

Wow, you sound very organised! And your garden path is very pretty. I’m struggling to get the motivation to shift things off my to do list at the moment - and one of those is landscaping. I need to sort some shrubbery out before it turns into trees :eek:

hahaaa - I completely understand! I have some bushes that have gotten so big that the irrigation guy told me that while he was a small guy - he even had trouble getting back there where one of the controls boxes are!

Our dog sitter put in that path - I was amazed when I came home. She had found the Blue Heron sculpture just hanging out in the garage (it has been there for 20 years because I didn't have anywhere to put it when we built the house, but couldn't bear to part with it) and she asked if she could do something with it. I didn't expect what she did but I love it!
Since then, she's leveled the stones in a different path, built two stone borders along the edge of some of the landscaping in the front, moved the big stones out from under the enormous blue spruce in the front and extended the stone edge along the front walk with them. She is a beast! :heart:

Fab!

Your black(?) zip-up with the ruffles reminds me of a Gucci dress I have

@whateve

Not exactly pristine and not exactly a bag, but a Gucci 1950s boar-skin jewellery box. It's so beautiful - and the oldest Gucci I own.

All my hugs and well wishes.

Thank you for sharing your Gucci collection - it’s always so fabulous. So many unique and special things.

As a side note, you’re twinning with Audrey Hepburn on your jewelry case.

Thanks too for the information, I didn't know, how fabulous. I actually went to Audrey Hepburn's auction at Christies. There were so many wonderful things. All the shoes I saw were Ferragamo.
