2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

Those are tough things to contemplate. Maybe try to move some you are not as fond of first. Taking great pictures really helps. Another idea would be to make something else you could sell, rather than the piece you love.
@dcooney4 this is a great idea! Especially in a affluent, spoiled for choice environment, where no-name bags might not fetch much (and giving them up would really hurt!), handmaking something could be a great option. We are heading into gift season... jumping on the etsy train with small, giftable items could work as a nice source of income. @jblended is so talented! I´m thinking things like notebook covers or pochettes that do not require much material and always make a good gift.

No one has done Stats yet this month. I haven't figured mine all out yet. Sold bags on the last day of September. lol
Oops... that´s another month gone by. Did I buy bags? I really have to think about this and have a look around... oh yes, the boxcalf bag from the fleamarket for sure.

Plus September was my birthday month. DH gifted me two black, but very different, clutches and silly me bought myself a Dior HG bag to admire and be afraid of ruining. No proper photos yet, sorry!

My Birthday present to myself: Dior Samourai 1947.
It's the huge ( over 40cms) and certainly least coveted model of the range, but If feels very special to me.

Thank you so much @cowgirlsboots! :hugs:I love the bags you chose this month.
The dior samurai is amazing
Thank you so much!
I still can´t believe I got my hands on a Samourai at a reasonable price. (Any other bag from this line I spotted cost at least 3 times of what I paid. There´s one listing for the very same model in unworn condition, though, for over 10 times of what I paid.) It´s in very good condition: clean, no scratches, no corner wear. The only flaws are one missing foot, which I might be able to replace given I can find one in the same size and a small portion of the leather of the bow at the knot coming apart from its reinforcement, which can easily be glued back.
Still I am not sure whether I can dare to actually wear the bag. The plastic snakes and rings are risky on a bag as heavy as this one. So far they are perfect. DS had one look, stroked it lovingly and told me to put it into a glass case like a piece ort art.

I made an impulse purchase last week of this smooshfest of a bag from Deadly Ponies in their sale. It’s been fun watching it make its way to England from the other side of the world in NZ. I really like it, it’s a good mid size, and I love the leather. Made from deerskin and the hardware is all solid brass (I am partial to a quality zip on a bag ).

That looks beautiful, congrats.

I'm quite out of step with the thread so I'm not sure if we've done stats already? :hrmm:

I had one more bag go out yesterday. My stuff is mostly in storage so I can't recall my totals for the year, but more out than in (and the bags in were gifted).

I'm contemplating selling the pride and joy of my collection. Some of you may remember my bespoke lantern python (no pics to hand, but hopefully someone remembers it lol). It's the only one that's worth anything so it may have to go. The only obstacle is that my current location isn't great for resale unless it's premiere bags. The disposable incomes are high and people can grab their own exotic from H, so I have to hope that my quirky design will appeal to someone more than the more recognizable brands.

I'm also considering selling my 'football' bag. That one is so unique and the full grain leather is divine. When I had it made, it was one of a kind, but now there are many similar on the market (which means I could replace it one day when my situation is better). However, it's harder to consider letting it go because it ties right back to childhood memories and the leather is amongst the best I've ever laid my hands on.
The contemporary bags in my collection are worth nothing, so I don't think I could move them if I tried.

Never thought I'd see the day I would be selling. It's my first time actually seriously considering it and it's proving difficult because my bespoke pieces are so special to me. Oh well, needs must. We'll see what happens. There's every chance nobody wants them so I get to hoard them forever!!! :P

It's always hard to sell such personal bags or other things.

I am (trying) clearing out books. They go in an out pile, and then I sneak a couple back....

@880 and @cowgirlsboots Thank you both! :hugs:I'm just mulling over my options at this time, nothing more. Truthfully, that stunning python bag in particular feels like it's being wasted on me. My life has changed so much that I no longer have any opportunity to take it out, so it may be better for it to go to a home where it'll be actively enjoyed.
Still, I'm taking my time with this decision. I am not a seller, have never sold anything, so I'm not going to rush now. I don't want to regret anything later.

OMG what a stunner! A perfect way to mark your bday!

I do this with books, especially! So hard to let go!

Thank you so much @More bags , @Pessie , @cecchetti , @stacy_natalie , @papertiger , @jblended , and @dcooney4 for your kind thoughts and wishes for my MIL and for my bag area. We normally fly out to see them, but MIL wanted to rally for her final trip. So they flew to meet their friends for a cruise that will be in NY for two days Next week. Unfortunately, she misplaced some meds, and they had to disembark for a few hours to go to the emergency room. They will have to get it straightened out at another stop. My FIL is frazzled, but he thinks it is good for them to be with friends. Our trials and tribulations re this two year renovation are a source of entertainment and distraction for them. Thank you again guys!

@jblended, I’m thinking of you and sending you a virtual hug. I really hope you do not have to sell your treasures :hugs:Just know, we are here for you.

@Pessie , the wood is walnut veneer bc the contractor doesn’t recommend real wood. Apparently it buckles, contracts, and expands with changes in temp.
Hopefully you’ll have a great time with them both next week.
Renovating isn’t easy (I tried it once and it didn’t end well!). Well done on getting close to the end.

Great finds, and Happy Birthday!

Books I struggle to throw out. But last time I moved house it was easier to be ruthless and I cleared out loads, cookbooks especially. In truth haven’t missed them.

Sorry to hear it sounds like you're currently having a rough time. Are you able to share photos of your 2 bags you're referring to? They sounds very special and unique. Hopefully things will improve for you soon!

Thank you very much! Things will look up soon, I'm certain.

Sorry, I don't have current pics since they're in storage but, here are older pics I'd shared on our earlier threads.

Python:

Football:

Note: if you're fond of the football shape, Mirta has some more refined options of the same design (called Opera and Operatta bags, iirc).

Edit to post a link. Here's the Opera bag that I mentioned. Link

This shape has become so common since the days I got mine! There's another that looks near-identical to mine (Link) but this one has nicer details. My panels are held together with knotted leather cord, this one has leather buttons, has nicer finishing and the bag looks more functional in size.
I prefer the Mirta bag tbh. I think it's a more polished and much lighter (in terms of weight) version of my bag.

Some bags for this weeks theme. I have some Evies but I’ve posted those quite a bit as they’re my most worn style, so I’ll spare you those. These are bags I don’t think I’ve posted as much. Most of my bags are either tan or dark jewel colours. I’m not a pastels girl!

Victoria ( rubis, clemence), Saut 25 (BFauferg) and Garden Party (vert cypres, negonda)

And bolides, rigide (raisin) and mou (rouge h) both are togo leather
