2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

Thank you so much…..you know how I get on a kick when i like something. I’m obsessed now with exotic minis. Who knew they held so much lol. I avoid patent like the plague. It always has issues
I used to have a framboise crocodile Dior, over 20 years ago, but it literally wouldn’t have fitted my current phone.
I sold it..I regret it, just because it was so beautiful , but tbh it wasn’t much use..

@jblended, I am so sorry to hear about your experience with the rude sales associate in the store.
Sending you a big virtual hug. :hugs:

It doesn't mess with the household budget, but I am running out of space with bottles overflowing in my closet. It all started with browsing. Sometimes browsing, which seems to be so innocent can be quite problematic as it opens the door to new purchases and possibilities!

It sounds like Mz Wallace had a great sale, so it was a good opportunity for you to explore the bags. You can always sell if you decide not to keep, and it sounds like there's a good demand for their bags, so I think it's okay to get a few and then decide which ones will be a part of your permanent collection.

@lill_canele, hope you recover soon and feel better. It must be so hard to be unwell, and have a super-busy work schedule on top of all that. Take care of your health!
Thanks ! I am slowly running out of space too. You are right browsing can be an issue.

Hope you guys don't mind if I share this story. Do you know when you get a snooty SA and it completely puts you off a brand? I just had one of those experiences.
I've never been to an Hermes boutique- frankly, waaaaay out of my prince range and too proper for my style. However, I have always thought I'd pop in one day if I got the chance. Well, that day came and I totally regret it.
I was waiting for an appointment and killing time walking around and, as I was carrying my bespoke snakeskin bag, I figured, if I'm ever going to walk into H with confidence, it's on a day when I'm wearing my bespoke exotic (a bag like Mr. grumpy would hardly do).

Anyway, doorman (is this normal for H?) opens door and smiles/greets me. I walk in and see homewares- make mental note to bring mum next time so she can browse because she loves this sort of thing. Look up and this male SA is looking at me funny. Clearly I don't look rich enough to be here, lol. I notice perfumes on the counter, so I ask if I can have a sniff and he just nods without saying anything. I think I'm noticing an attitude but ignore it and go ahead.

Then I remove my mask to sniff the perfume blotter I just sprayed. Big mistake. My stupid face was his final straw. He pounces over to me and asks in the most condescending manner if I have an appointment today. I reply that I don't and am just having a look. He says he's so sorry, I can't be served because I need an appointment. I knew the issue was my appearance because he literally jumped when I removed the mask, and instead of leaving, I pressed on with this pointless conversation. What can I say, my ego was bruised!
I said, I don't believe I do need an appointment to browse what's already out on display, do I? He says it's H policy. I swallow my pride, nod, say thank you and leave. I'm certain this is rubbish- surely people can walk in and look, can't they? Those of you who are better informed can correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, as I'm walking out, another (fabulous looking) customer walks in. She's holding a Kelly in rose sakura. I have no idea how I identified rose sakura- I am not an H client and I don't know their stuff. I must've become familiar from here. I praise her on the bag and colour (it is truly stunning and I'm being sincere). She was thrilled! I look back at the SA whose jaw had dropped. He seems confused because now he's not sure if I could have had the money to spend or not. Ha!

It's so weird. I know I don't look like an H customer at all, and certainly I am in a place where wealth and beauty are the norm so I stick out like a sore thumb, but this felt so blatantly rude. I'm totally put off. I wouldn't even accompany a friend to another H store after this experience. I have no desire to ever be made to feel this small again. Whatever happened to luxury being about great customer service?

Contrast this to the Henry Jacques boutique I got to visit some time ago. I removed my mask to smell their perfumes and the staff never once flinched or made me feel unwelcome or unworthy of their time. Felt like actual luxury being in there because they treated everyone equally.

It's not a big deal and I'm not upset really; more shocked because I forgot my place and was reminded. I do generally feel like customer service was a different game a few decades ago. The market has changed so much.
Ugh, where is the vomit reaction when you need it  I had to reply to access the proper response. That’s gross.Sorry that happened to you.

I only have 1 Dior bag but am not currently staying at my house so I will have to find another photo I may have previously posted elsewhere.

ETA: Attaching photo collage I made when bought bag a couple months ago and was trying to figure out potential outfits. I've only used it once for a couple of hours so definitely need to get it into my rotation once I'm back home.

This is the fuschia medium Lady Dior Toile de Jouy Voyage print with elephants and peacock on front DMX tiger on back. I was told there were only 500 of these made but not sure if that's accurate.

I really love Dior’s fabric creations like this and the book totes with the elaborate designs. They’re gorgeous.

Tne regrets are the hardest but if doesn’t work then you’ll never use. I wont buy any micro bags because certain items I absolutely need to have and if bag doesn’t hold that I leave it no matter how gorgeous

I bought in 2000 when I moved to Paris-I don’t think I even had a mobile phone then-it just fitted lipstick , keys, credit card etc, so I did actually use it for quite a while before I sold it, and got my money back..although had it been larger I’d never have sold it, and I’d buy a larger version if I found one I liked ..

Oh good I’m glad you at least got to enjoy it and then recoupEd your coins…..it’s just something about those Crocs bags….especially Dior. I’m probably going to add another one next year but I have some jewelry items I need to get so must pace myself.

I'm in a similar spot. Everything is too heavy and hits too close to home. I'm reading Garfield comics almost exclusively! :P
Sending you some :hugs:in case you need them. The more serious literature will be there whenever you're ready for it. Keep putting your mental health first and enjoy the fluff!

Thank you, @jblended . Garfield sounds like a great idea! I've also found that cookbooks are fun, though I have to admit that when I actually want to cook something new I go online to find something. :amuse:

Thank you. This one is actually leather (interior is a gorgeous fuschia suede) but I believe they made similar print in various colorways in the book tote and other fabric/embroidered bags. I have one of those on my list too!

Good question! I had a little burst of enthusiasm when we were discussing fall jackets and coats earlier, and then somehow that faded away, mostly because it has been so hot here that I couldn't bear to think of any heavy clothing. I think I will get into the mood when it cools down a bit. As for bags, my Boxyz in dark red/burgundy is definitely on my list. My Tempete has been neglected, so I need to make sure to carry it a bit more in the autumn. Will circle back to this question in a week or two, after I've given my AW outfits a bit more thought.
Do I hear coats? Haha, fortunately it´s still warm here, but some new coats must have silently sneaked into the house...
I can´t leave a nice coat behind when I see one. So they are hanging from the doorframes.

From Paris I brought a stunning red Carlisle coat (DS urged me to get it immediately after we had simultanously spotted it in a thrift shop while DH saw it and commented: "You won´t get run over by any car in this colour." DS answered: "Shut up!") and a lightweight black fakefur from the Porte Vanves fleamarket. I only finished cleaning it up last night. It definetely has been altered during its life. The current state is 50ies. It might be older.

I bought it without knowing what exactly it looked like. It was dirty and so smelly even the seller questioned me whether I was sure to get it. The fakefur looked so nice even in its sad state that I didn´t hesitate to spend the 8€ on it. I never tried it on, only knotted it into double trashbags from which I only released it for washing. I had to disassemble it almost completely, because the space between outer and lining was full of stinky dust from what must have been deteriorated huge shoulder pads. After this was gone the coat came out of the machine nice and clean. DS said: "posh outdoor bathrobe!" Exactly, that´s what it feels like: something to throw on and feel comfy.

The third coat came from a local fleamarket last week: grey wool, 70ies, big grey fur collar and an assortment of moth holes which I darned. It´s still pretty.

Garfield always is a great pick-me-up! I enjoy Calvin and Hobbes cartoons a lot, too. For reading I will turn to John Grisham when I just want a story to dive into and enjoy.
