2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

Are you able to wear perfume again? If so then I hope you enjoy them. If you are still having issues maybe return any unopened ones.
Yes, I am able to wear them as long as I apply lightly, and don't keep switching them up on a daily basis. So I wear the same perfume for several days in a row unlike before, where I used to change daily (Most people who have a large collection change daily.)
I am not very good at online returns, and I mostly bought back-ups of favorites, so I will keep them. Still, I didn't really need any back ups, and just ended up getting them in a weak moment because of having a stressful week.

I have the same problem with bags. Mz Wallace had a two day sale in July. There were so many bags I wanted to try. People have been releasing some of the bags they grabbed at bargain prices in a group I am in. I grabbed one more yesterday when someone messaged me with an In Search Of I had. That is a total of three bags in already this month already, though one was a gift. I am trying to release bags too. I have 2 bags out this week too. You are enjoying your perfume and as long as it doesn't mess with your household budget enjoy.

Hi dc, both books were good. I liked The Thursday Murder Club more than The Madness of Crowds.

The Thursday Murder Club is first in the series. I read #2, then #3, then #1. All three by Richard Osman were quick summer reads, humourous, twisty, suspenseful mysteries. This series is about 4 Septuagenarians who solve cold cases, and current murders. They also delve into relationships, and friendships. I’m looking forward to the release of #4 this month.

The Madness of Crowds is part of Louise Penny’s Armand Gamache series, I believe book #17. It is slower to start, actually it was really slow and I put it down to read something else. When I eventually returned to it, I appreciated the characters, families, and their relationships in a small village in Quebec.
I ordered the first book in the series yesterday. Looking forward to reading something humorous.

A friend of mine has also read and enjoyed that series - she has also recommended Killers of a Certain Age. I think I'm going to try it!
From Goodreads:
''They've spent their lives as the deadliest assassins in a clandestine international organization, but now that they're sixty years old, four women friends can't just retire - it's kill or be killed in this action-packed thriller."

Thanks for the recommendation.

Very cool! I wish I was talented enough to sew. Took my daughter to a class once at a local Joann Fabrics store and ended up spending $80 on class and purchasing materials to make a tiny pillow that I put on my patio (because there was no way I was featuring it in my home lol) and was ruined from sunlight right away. Had to keep calling the instructor over to help me during the class, it was pitiful. Never attempted to sew again so I definitely appreciate your handiwork and the hard work you put into this. Thanks for sharing the photos.
Aww, what a shame your sewing class was so unsatisfactory!
I am very grateful to my mother for teaching me how to sew when I was a little girl and always keeping nagging me through the years to do it properly. Of course I don´t always do... (but I feel her presence while sewing and know when I do sloppy things.)
In my experience you learn the most by simply experimenting with nice but cheap materials. I haven´t bought any new fabrics in ages- I usually alter existing garments or simply cut them up for fabric. My latest pillowcases for example used to be an unflattering but thankfully big summer dress I bought for under 5€.

Hope you guys don't mind if I share this story. Do you know when you get a snooty SA and it completely puts you off a brand? I just had one of those experiences.
I've never been to an Hermes boutique- frankly, waaaaay out of my prince range and too proper for my style. However, I have always thought I'd pop in one day if I got the chance. Well, that day came and I totally regret it.
I was waiting for an appointment and killing time walking around and, as I was carrying my bespoke snakeskin bag, I figured, if I'm ever going to walk into H with confidence, it's on a day when I'm wearing my bespoke exotic (a bag like Mr. grumpy would hardly do).

Anyway, doorman (is this normal for H?) opens door and smiles/greets me. I walk in and see homewares- make mental note to bring mum next time so she can browse because she loves this sort of thing. Look up and this male SA is looking at me funny. Clearly I don't look rich enough to be here, lol. I notice perfumes on the counter, so I ask if I can have a sniff and he just nods without saying anything. I think I'm noticing an attitude but ignore it and go ahead.

Then I remove my mask to sniff the perfume blotter I just sprayed. Big mistake. My stupid face was his final straw. He pounces over to me and asks in the most condescending manner if I have an appointment today. I reply that I don't and am just having a look. He says he's so sorry, I can't be served because I need an appointment. I knew the issue was my appearance because he literally jumped when I removed the mask, and instead of leaving, I pressed on with this pointless conversation. What can I say, my ego was bruised!
I said, I don't believe I do need an appointment to browse what's already out on display, do I? He says it's H policy. I swallow my pride, nod, say thank you and leave. I'm certain this is rubbish- surely people can walk in and look, can't they? Those of you who are better informed can correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, as I'm walking out, another (fabulous looking) customer walks in. She's holding a Kelly in rose sakura. I have no idea how I identified rose sakura- I am not an H client and I don't know their stuff. I must've become familiar from here. I praise her on the bag and colour (it is truly stunning and I'm being sincere). She was thrilled! I look back at the SA whose jaw had dropped. He seems confused because now he's not sure if I could have had the money to spend or not. Ha!

It's so weird. I know I don't look like an H customer at all, and certainly I am in a place where wealth and beauty are the norm so I stick out like a sore thumb, but this felt so blatantly rude. I'm totally put off. I wouldn't even accompany a friend to another H store after this experience. I have no desire to ever be made to feel this small again. Whatever happened to luxury being about great customer service?

Contrast this to the Henry Jacques boutique I got to visit some time ago. I removed my mask to smell their perfumes and the staff never once flinched or made me feel unwelcome or unworthy of their time. Felt like actual luxury being in there because they treated everyone equally.

It's not a big deal and I'm not upset really; more shocked because I forgot my place and was reminded. I do generally feel like customer service was a different game a few decades ago. The market has changed so much.
That is so horrible. I am so sorry. BIG BIG hug

Dior... trying to find some you haven´t seen over and over already...

let´s start with my Lady Perla (1999 if I remeber correctly.) She came to Paris with me and was a very pleasant and practical bag. Instead of the original slim shoulder strap I used a wide canvas crossbody strap.

(This is one of the two photos of myself from Paris... )

Here´s a sweet one: the 2004 Gambler Dice bag with the niffler I made for DS

My 2010 Dior Delice bags. The red is a warmer shade in reality. Sorry for the bad photo!

The Dior Jeanne is the same shade of red as the Delices!

And last but not least: Dior Detective, 2005 with matching (trashed!) boots

I love them all and those boots are hot! ❤️

@jblended, I am so sorry to hear about your experience with the rude sales associate in the store.
Sending you a big virtual hug. :hugs:
I have the same problem with bags. Mz Wallace had a two day sale in July. There were so many bags I wanted to try. It doesn't mess with the household budget, but I am running out of space with bottles overflowing in my closet. It all started with browsing. Sometimes browsing, which seems to be so innocent can be quite problematic as it opens the door to new purchases and possibilities!

It sounds like Mz Wallace had a great sale, so it was a good opportunity for you to explore the bags. You can always sell if you decide not to keep, and it sounds like there's a good demand for their bags, so I think it's okay to get a few and then decide which ones will be a part of your permanent collection.

@lill_canele, hope you recover soon and feel better. It must be so hard to be unwell, and have a super-busy work schedule on top of all that. Take care of your health!

I want to think about AW looks.

What are you doing for your AW looks and which bags are you going to work with them?
Good question! I had a little burst of enthusiasm when we were discussing fall jackets and coats earlier, and then somehow that faded away, mostly because it has been so hot here that I couldn't bear to think of any heavy clothing. I think I will get into the mood when it cools down a bit. As for bags, my Boxyz in dark red/burgundy is definitely on my list. My Tempete has been neglected, so I need to make sure to carry it a bit more in the autumn. Will circle back to this question in a week or two, after I've given my AW outfits a bit more thought.

@jblended I'm sorry you had that awful experience, I was totally ignored in Hermes more than once but no one was openly rude there.
@missie1 your Dior bags are each more beautiful than the next, as are your vca/diamond stacks!

No new bags for me; I ordered and returned a little patent leather Dior cardholder because the edges were already yellow when I took it out of the box.

I tried reading a southern mystery and idk it was jarring to see modern thinking set back in the early 1900s , along with a bunch of drama that could have been easily avoided by some basic communication.
Ah well onto the next book.

Thank you so much…..you know how I get on a kick when i like something. I’m obsessed now with exotic minis. Who knew they held so much lol. I avoid patent like the plague. It always has issues
