2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

Hi dc, both books were good. I liked The Thursday Murder Club more than The Madness of Crowds.

The Thursday Murder Club is first in the series. I read #2, then #3, then #1. All three by Richard Osman were quick summer reads, humourous, twisty, suspenseful mysteries. This series is about 4 Septuagenarians who solve cold cases, and current murders. They also delve into relationships, and friendships. I’m looking forward to the release of #4 this month.

The Madness of Crowds is part of Louise Penny’s Armand Gamache series, I believe book #17. It is slower to start, actually it was really slow and I put it down to read something else. When I eventually returned to it, I appreciated the characters, families, and their relationships in a small village in Quebec.
Thank you! I will check out the Thursday Murder Club.

Reactions: More bags
I want to think about AW looks.

What are you doing for your AW looks and which bags are you going to work with them?

I would love to get more use out of my outwear (especially my RTW)! Would like to focus on my alpaca coat I got last year as well as my Burberry cropped trench jacket.
The only issue is that the staph infection is on the nape of my neck...I have been unable to wear a lot of my favorite clothes the past month or so and am sticking to basics until it finally heals.
Staph infections are annoying because the bacteria can remain up to a week on clothes/cloth so things are either bleached, steamed, or on sanitize-mode in the laundry.
It has put me off on buying a few scarves I was looking forward to buying this year, but at the same time, it has done a great job in preventing me from spending money to buy clothes and soft accessories in general lol. :P
I hope by the time actual fall weather rolls around in SoCal, that I will be able to wear my coats and jackets!

As for bags, I'm looking forward to wearing my Polene shoulder bag in a rich warm brown color, and my Moynat voyage in the deep green-blue colour.

Hope you guys don't mind if I share this story. Do you know when you get a snooty SA and it completely puts you off a brand? I just had one of those experiences.
I've never been to an Hermes boutique- frankly, waaaaay out of my prince range and too proper for my style. However, I have always thought I'd pop in one day if I got the chance. Well, that day came and I totally regret it.
I was waiting for an appointment and killing time walking around and, as I was carrying my bespoke snakeskin bag, I figured, if I'm ever going to walk into H with confidence, it's on a day when I'm wearing my bespoke exotic (a bag like Mr. grumpy would hardly do).

Anyway, doorman (is this normal for H?) opens door and smiles/greets me. I walk in and see homewares- make mental note to bring mum next time so she can browse because she loves this sort of thing. Look up and this male SA is looking at me funny. Clearly I don't look rich enough to be here, lol. I notice perfumes on the counter, so I ask if I can have a sniff and he just nods without saying anything. I think I'm noticing an attitude but ignore it and go ahead.

Then I remove my mask to sniff the perfume blotter I just sprayed. Big mistake. My stupid face was his final straw. He pounces over to me and asks in the most condescending manner if I have an appointment today. I reply that I don't and am just having a look. He says he's so sorry, I can't be served because I need an appointment. I knew the issue was my appearance because he literally jumped when I removed the mask, and instead of leaving, I pressed on with this pointless conversation. What can I say, my ego was bruised!
I said, I don't believe I do need an appointment to browse what's already out on display, do I? He says it's H policy. I swallow my pride, nod, say thank you and leave. I'm certain this is rubbish- surely people can walk in and look, can't they? Those of you who are better informed can correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, as I'm walking out, another (fabulous looking) customer walks in. She's holding a Kelly in rose sakura. I have no idea how I identified rose sakura- I am not an H client and I don't know their stuff. I must've become familiar from here. I praise her on the bag and colour (it is truly stunning and I'm being sincere). She was thrilled! I look back at the SA whose jaw had dropped. He seems confused because now he's not sure if I could have had the money to spend or not. Ha!

It's so weird. I know I don't look like an H customer at all, and certainly I am in a place where wealth and beauty are the norm so I stick out like a sore thumb, but this felt so blatantly rude. I'm totally put off. I wouldn't even accompany a friend to another H store after this experience. I have no desire to ever be made to feel this small again. Whatever happened to luxury being about great customer service?

Contrast this to the Henry Jacques boutique I got to visit some time ago. I removed my mask to smell their perfumes and the staff never once flinched or made me feel unwelcome or unworthy of their time. Felt like actual luxury being in there because they treated everyone equally.

It's not a big deal and I'm not upset really; more shocked because I forgot my place and was reminded. I do generally feel like customer service was a different game a few decades ago. The market has changed so much.

Ugh, that is so rude! I'm so sorry about your experience.
At my boutique it depends on the crowd. My Hermes store is unfortunately very popular, so there is often a line with a doorman (who are very patient nice gentlemen).
It may depend on location and management. In my location, walk-ins are accepted but they do prefer an appointment. 1-2 years ago, they tried to do this weird online appointment system that completely flopped haha. So, I just text my SA a week before I'm coming and he's good with that.
Anyway, completely uncalled for. I see nothing wrong with browsing. That man must have a stick up his a**.

I wish you better, that sounds very annoying (even though it's money-saving)

Dh and I went shopping and I went to Mulberry. Saw this back in March and kept pictures on my phone. Didn’t see it at first but Sa knows me so he pointed to their storage closet and said do I see what I was looking for. Sure did! I still wasn’t sure about strap length as it is not removable, but Dh liked it so it came home. He is not a fan of my nylon bags, so when I like a leather one , he is happy. Does your significant other or friends try to get you to pick a certain style of item? Photos are not great as it was very cloudy out.

What a beauty!
Got this fun orange Balenciaga coin purse. Credit to @BowieFan1971 and her orange Picotin (and other orange items) and @afroken and her orange Nodini for helping me properly appreciate orange bags and SLGs.

Oh gosh - how cute and such a fun color!
Lucky coat ending up with you! You're so gifted!
Love that your boy already has a good eye and his own sense of style! He's learning from the best.

@Cookiefiend Love your Diors! Are the 2 flaps Be Dior bags?

And thank you everyone for your words of support. :hugs:It's good to know that appointments aren't needed to browse H/perfumes and this treatment isn't the norm. Onwards and upwards.

Edit: Just reading through the updates on the Tiffany thread and realizing that my experience pales in comparison to some things others have seen from rude SAs. Link for anyone who is interested.
They are both Be Dior bags! The fuchsia is a small (and a great size with a marvelous royal blue leather lining), the navy is a medium ( and quite large, the lining is also navy leather).
I have been thinking a lot about the navy... and I've listed it. I have a navy Dalvy and a fun blue Picotin - and I carry them more than I do the navy Dior. But it's a beautiful bag and beautifully made... so it's still in 'rotation'.

(often when I decide to sell a bag it becomes 'dead to me' - I want nothing to do with it once I've made the decision - but with this bag - dang - it's so lovely!)
Since the Dior posts are scarce here’s my collection of minis. I will try to take family pic later.

ooooo how gorgeous are these? Wow!!

August stats

Bags in or out - 0 in, and 1 out! As I said earlier - I've been thinking about my bags - and I sold my H Vespa. Since I purchased the LV Graceful (and already had the Lederer toile 'Kelly'), the Vespa wasn't getting carried at all.

Scarves in or out - 3 in, 0 out. The 3 ins are a Three Graces gavroche, a Chasse en Inde moussie stole (a beautiful neutral), and a Patchwork Horse CSGM (pink!!)

Bags carried - only 7 - most carried was the Dior Be Dior in fuchsia, followed by the Picotin.

Books read/finished - A History of the Bible (very interesting!), Her Little Flowers (eh - it was okay), Sea of Tranquillity (very good), The Magnificent Ambersons (about the decline of an important family and the growth of the city around them), The Secret Book of Flora Lea (a very sweet story about a lost girl), and Ghost Eaters (bizarre and a little creepy). Currently reading Tom Lake (audible), and The Shell Seekers (I haven't read this in ages).

I brought up 53 empty wine cases for donation but haven't gotten there yet... because I have to get them in my car now - oof!

But then in general I'm failing to read anything serious these days - the fluffier the better.
I'm in a similar spot. Everything is too heavy and hits too close to home. I'm reading Garfield comics almost exclusively! :P
Sending you some :hugs:in case you need them. The more serious literature will be there whenever you're ready for it. Keep putting your mental health first and enjoy the fluff!

Every single one is gorgeous!

What a great spin on a terrible situation! Hoping you're on the tail end of this and feel better soon.

I don't blame you for hesitating! It's so chic. I hope if it does sell, you get a great price on it and the new owner loves it. If it doesn't move, maybe it'll be the sign you need to put it back in your closet. ;)

Where does one donate wine cases? The local pub? (sorry if this is a dumb question)

I take them to our St Vincent de Paul - they are a hot commodity! People buy them for decorating - I've seen people use them on walls, stack them to make end tables - all sorts of things.

August stats: No bags in or out.
I haven't caught up on the thread yet, hope to do so over the next few days. Although I have been good about not buying bags, I unfortunately went down the perfume rabbit hole again, and got a few bottles that I shouldn't have. Sigh, I am annoyed with myself. Oh well, hope to do better in the upcoming months!
Are you able to wear perfume again? If so then I hope you enjoy them. If you are still having issues maybe return any unopened ones.
