2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

Here are the closet pics as requested. Kind of hard to get good pics but I took one straight on and then one of each side. I don't love it but it's growing on me and I think I did the best I could with the limited space. Picking up an additional shelf on Monday so I can double up where the small pink bags are (center, 2nd from bottom).

Beautiful collection! Love the variety in both colors & brands.

Does anyone else get sucked into the idea of “sets” or collections?

I’ve been dealing with deep depression, and a variety of health issues. One of my coping strategies is I’ve been cataloging and cleaning up my bags and scarves, and making lists of any gaps.

I found myself making a list of the gaps in my Hermès bags - never mind the fact that I have lovely and wonderful bags by other designers that already fill those so-called gaps that I have no intention of getting rid of. It’s true that I don’t have an Hermes version - but does it matter? No one is threatening to take away my other bags. There’s no prize for having an Hermes bag set.

But when I’m scrolling, I find myself thinking, “ooh, this will fill the gap in your wardrobe”.

It’s probably why my churn has been so high this year - I’m looking for bags I don’t need because it’s something that makes me feel accomplished when I’m depressed.

Or is there something appealing about having a one-name or two-name collection?
dont be so hard on yourself. It’s fine to want bags you don’t need. It’s also fine to decide you want to whittle your collection down to a few names if that makes you happy. As my dior SA says, none of us need more stuff. But, if you only buy what you love; what you can afford; and what you will use, there is no harm in buying something bc it also makes you smile. I hope you feel better soon.

As for me, my bag collection is stable. I have the neutral colors I love in classic sizes. The thought of collecting them in smaller sizes is tiresome, so I will only add what I fall in love with. Since I have no idea what that is, the hunt can be challenging lol. But, I honestly find that discovering new (or new to me) fun things in RTW is a lot more fun

Back from my trip to Las Vegas and I purchased some new goodies. Not so good for shopping my own closet, but this also was as I expected. I already mentioned the VCA pendant I had been after and I think I mentioned the new bag (?), but I also picked up some silks, shoes and a bracelet at Hermes, and a Cartier Trinity ring in white gold and ceramic. My SA encouraged me to stack it with the tricolor gold I already have, which reminded me of the exact same suggestion made by @papertiger. Packaging was more special than usual (the white paper with the red wax is a new thing for me); pics below.

Some of you might recall a bit of an overhaul of my fine jewelry collection was on my To Do list for this year and I think I can declare mission accomplished!

Congratulations, it's fabulous!

I agree, hours of playtime and options.

Honoured you can be my twin!

For me it's about the aftercare. There are fewer and fewer companies offering anything in the way of life-time service for bags etc. I clean my own bags (and shoes) but it's nice to know that H spa is there if need be, BV is very good and Gucci too.

Gorgeous closet and even more gorgeous bags! I spied your McQueen knuckle clutch bag first. I don't see them often so it makes me happy when I do.

I'm so sorry you're going through so much right now. :hugs:
You've pretty much nailed the reason you're fixating on the collection- it's a pretty convenient distraction. Focusing on a specific brand or set is actually a really practical way to channel any stress and anxiety in other areas of your life. It's something manageable that you can control and adjust to feel distracted/ uplifted/ accomplished/ focused- all the feelings we don't have when we're depressed or facing health problems.
It's a perfectly reasonable outlet. A little escapism never hurt anyone. Life is hard so allow yourself the pleasure of browsing (or mindfully shopping) if it brings you some comfort. Do anything that helps, without guilt, because it is important to have something fun and light to focus on.

Congratulations on hitting your goal! It's a gorgeous ring. :)

Thank you. I don't use it often (the clasp is annoying as are clutches in general in my opnion) but I was looking for a bag to match a pair of LV shoes in a similar color and thought the built in "rings" were so fun. I know a lot of the bags I have may seem trendy or ostentatious to some with more classic and refined taste, but I buy what catches my eye and makes me happy at the time. Here's another pic so you can see closer up, photographed with the shoes and an LV epi leather pouch I bought to use with shoes before I stumbled upon the McQueen. Glazing melting on the pouch so don't use it (seems to be a common problem with LV).

Sort of in the past? Especially when I was starting to buy luxury and didn't have much in the beginning.

Now being more established, (and not the type who is a collector or who likes to have a lot stuff in general), I get the feeling from time to time, kind of put things on a wishlist but then later forget or lose interest. This tells me that I probably don't need it or don't want it badly enough lol.

If something comes up multiple times for a type of bag, then I take that more into consideration.

I do have this mentality of wanting to buy a set of clothes or sets from collections or specific brands, but have to constantly tell myself no I have enough :P. And really push myself to get out of the house and wear my stuff! lol so it makes me whittle things down to something I absolutely love 200%.

I'm sorry about how things are going for you. I de-stress by cataloging, cleaning, and organizing. And I think that offers some mental relief in a good way.
Perhaps it may be a good idea to step away from the scrolling part online and scroll through your wardrobe to fall back in love with some things? Or just take a break and do other things. (Not saying that you're not doing those things or not trying. Just some thoughts.)
Regardless, I hope you'll feel better soon and have a better headspace in the near future! :flowers:

Strange materials...

I bought two bags at a fleamarket last Sunday. Both are very dirty and very old and totally adorable. ( At least in my eyes...)

The mock croc is plastic, the green clutch grosgrain.

They are waiting to be cleaned up. I´m curious how much I will be able to do. The other side of the green bag is very bad.

But first I have to clear out the chaos in my room.
I started another clothes purge. There is so much vintage everywhere and while I thought: "great! grab a piece and get dressed," I noticed, that lots of the dresses are far too big on me right now. So there´s no need for them to be in this very room. I´ll sort into fits -- too big/ alter soon -- too big/ no hurry to alter and find some storage spot for the latter making room for those I can actually wear.
That mock croc is really cool!

I don't have this problem much any more. When I first started collecting, I wanted to get matching items for my purses. Then I decided I like the variety - of brands, colors and patterns.

My problem is that when I decide I need something - say a red bag - in the process of searching, I'll come across several possibilities and have trouble narrowing it down to one. Next thing you know, I buy more than one. Then even after I get them, I'm still in looking mode. I do this with nearly everything; shoes, clothes, even salad dressing! I just ordered 2 swimsuits when I only need one.

Please come to my house the next time you need to de-stress lol
love your first dress and the bag! May I ask who made the dress?
Thank you! I bought this from the boutique in I think 2021. I have had good luck on TRR though when I’ve wanted to find prior collection stuff, usually in great condition (unlike TRR bags) and great prices relative to retail.
Then even after I get them, I'm still in looking mode. I do this with nearly everything; shoes, clothes, even salad dressing! I just ordered 2 swimsuits when I only need one.
Yes I do this too. But I really try not to bc the behavior makes me feel like I am hoarding even if the items will be used.
