2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

Always thought Hermes enamel bangles were so pretty and that I would like one, but I have never had luck finding bangles small enough for me to not fall off. So I went in to H today with the kind of buying one and I am happy to say, though they have ones that fit, I left without one because I didn’t like how the round shape bangle looks/feels on me. Yay! Purchase averted! Though I did really like the Cadena Click, an oval shaped bangle, which was more than I wanted to spend so I said no.
Ugh, I have this problem, too. Tried an H enamel bangle for the first time while we were in Las Vegas last week and even the smallest size is too big. The click bangles in the PM size work much better for me. Maybe you can find one on a resale site if you like the style, but not the boutique price?

Nah, I just didn’t like how the round shape flopped on me and the thicker it was, the heavier it was and the more it flopped. It’s not worth it at any price because I wouldn’t wear it.

Oops! I might have confused you. I was talking about looking for the Cadena Click on a resale site since it sounded as if you liked that style, but not the price? And I hear you on how floppy bracelets are when they’re loose!

I think I may take a look for the Cadena Click, but not a priority. Even though I primarily buy preloved items, I was looking forward to the boutique experience this time. But only within a set budget. I only do it once or twice a year for a few hundred dollars, like a scarf or twilly. But I have enough of those and had always thought the bangles were so pretty…not for me.

I am getting ready to head out for the day but will definitely take photos when I get home tonight or tomorrow! On another note, I purchased this bag last weekend and would like your opinions. I am trying to decide if the gold hardware with grey bothers me. It did the first time I saw the bag bc I tend to think gold clashes with grey and silver would coordinate better, but then I convinced myself that it no longer bothered me bc the bag is more of a dark taupe grey and not a light silvery grey. When I hold bag up next to most grey clothing like charcoal grey it definitely has more brown in it. I never thought about getting a grey bag (even though I have lots of grey clothing) but I just realized I think I was drawn to this particular bag because it is similar to a leather sofa I have (attaching stock photo of both). I was obsessed with this sofa for a couple of years & used to go in to look at it every time I walked by West Elm but had no use for it since I already had 3 sofas - then I decided to convert my garage into a game room during COVID and bam - had an excuse to get that sofa. New dumb excuse: I need the bag bc it matches the sofa in my garage?

Anyway, I couldn't wear this with a lot of grey but I still think it would look nice with a number of things I own. Thoughts on the gold? Also distressed about what color shoes I would wear with this. I found 1 pair of boots I have in similar color but they have silver chains on them (have never even worn them anyway so not a deterrant).

Love both the bag and the couch
I don’t have an issue with mixing metal and I actually think to mix is a younger and more casual look these days :)
Congrats on both!

Pretty bag! What’s your wardrobe like? I could easily see this with neutrals like black and white.
My wardrobe has just about every color in it - I don't discriminate LOL. I decided to use the bag yesterday and ended up loving it! Managed to fit alot in it without it feeling large or bulky at all (cosmetics pouch, eyeglass case, detachable strap, even an extra pair of flat sandals). Here's a photo I snapped yesterday - hair a hot mess compliments of afternoon thunderstorm.

Does anyone else get sucked into the idea of “sets” or collections?

I’ve been dealing with deep depression, and a variety of health issues. One of my coping strategies is I’ve been cataloging and cleaning up my bags and scarves, and making lists of any gaps.

I found myself making a list of the gaps in my Hermès bags - never mind the fact that I have lovely and wonderful bags by other designers that already fill those so-called gaps that I have no intention of getting rid of. It’s true that I don’t have an Hermes version - but does it matter? No one is threatening to take away my other bags. There’s no prize for having an Hermes bag set.

But when I’m scrolling, I find myself thinking, “ooh, this will fill the gap in your wardrobe”.

It’s probably why my churn has been so high this year - I’m looking for bags I don’t need because it’s something that makes me feel accomplished when I’m depressed.

Or is there something appealing about having a one-name or two-name collection?

I understand what you mean…I have been on an H kick too. When I get rid of the contemporary designer bags I kept for under the radar wear (which I don’t need because non logo designer bags especially H do that), I will have primarily H and Prada (LOVE their Vitello Daino leather!!!) with a few Gucci and LV. I used to want different designers but I don’t feel the need anymore. Plus logos are less desirable to me now and I am picky about my leathers. Plus I know what shapes/sizes/feels work for/with me. That makes it easy to hone in on a few designers that resonate with that. Maybe H just “gets” you and is worth concentrating on.

I also understand the retail therapy. Since my mom went into hospice and passed I have done some retail therapy…jewelry this time instead of bags. I have bought a few Cartier pieces (small Trinity ring, Tank Francaise, slim platinum band with a tiny embedded diamond), a Tiffany Elsa Peretti bean necklace and two H Behapi bracelets. Except for the watch, they were all only a few hundred dollars each tops preloved. So don’t feel bad or as if you are doing something out of the ordinary. I indulge myself as long as I am not going into debt and I don’t buy clothes/shoes/makeup/skin care, so if it makes me feel better and I use/love them, what’s the harm? I do love my new watch and Trinity ring and wear them almost daily.

Here are the closet pics as requested. Kind of hard to get good pics but I took one straight on and then one of each side. I don't love it but it's growing on me and I think I did the best I could with the limited space. Picking up an additional shelf on Monday so I can double up where the small pink bags are (center, 2nd from bottom).

That bag looks great with that outfit. Glad it’s working out for you!

I find myself doing this, too, and I have no idea why. Being part of this thread encouraged me to catalog my bag collection, so that has made me a bit better about looking to fill those gaps in my collection that really don’t exist. But it still hasn’t stopped me looking…

Back from my trip to Las Vegas and I purchased some new goodies. Not so good for shopping my own closet, but this also was as I expected. I already mentioned the VCA pendant I had been after and I think I mentioned the new bag (?), but I also picked up some silks, shoes and a bracelet at Hermes, and a Cartier Trinity ring in white gold and ceramic. My SA encouraged me to stack it with the tricolor gold I already have, which reminded me of the exact same suggestion made by @papertiger. Packaging was more special than usual (the white paper with the red wax is a new thing for me); pics below.

Some of you might recall a bit of an overhaul of my fine jewelry collection was on my To Do list for this year and I think I can declare mission accomplished!
