2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

How much do you care about the quality of the box and dustbag
Not at all. in fact, I don’t want to buy a bag unless I love it enough to wear it out of the store and leave the packaging behind. In fact, I’d be happiest if luxury brands used a lot less packaging. Usually, my SAs insist I take the dust bag, so I store most in a drawer. I also stuff them into larger ones, if a bag needs stuffing to hold the shape.

ETA: part of this is I don’t want to contribute to landfill; part is I don’t have room to store boxes; and the last is that if I don’t take the packaging home I can pretend to myself that I didn’t go shopping. . . At least until the Amex bill lol

Got the Polene neuf mini in their new peach color. The company changed their dustbags and boxes. They used to be sooo luxurious! IT was one reason I though they had a chance of making it from Contemporary to Luxury status. They are now much cheaper looking and feeling. Probably tried as a cost cutting measure. I think it will save them a bit short term, but not be a good thing for the company long term. So, question for the thread...

They matter to me. I know it may seem a simple thing, but when I'm paying that much money for a bag I want the 'extra' details to be well taken care of. I think luxury often isn't just about the product itself, but the entire experience.

In love with this new peach color!:loveeyes::loveeyes:

Enjoy your new bag!
After reading several posts about the changes made at Polene its disappointing that you
are disappointed in the dustbag as well as the box.
Many designers are changing their dustbags as well as their packaging unfortunately.
Hermes for example used to have the signature orange dustbag now it is the herringbone
However, the outer box has not changed & that box is still desirable .
I like to keep the dustbag to store my bags as well as the boxes.
And for many it is still about the entire experience so don't disagree agree with you about that.

Thank you! :flowers: It somehow makes me feel better it isn't just Polene. :hugs:

I don't care about the box. If the box is nice, I feel like I need to keep it but I don't have the space to keep them neatly, so I'd be happier without. I really have no use for the boxes. (related: I hate that California made everyone switch to reusable bags as now I have a zillion of them. They are too nice to use for trash like I did with the disposable ones. I have a ton because every time we use instacart we get more.)

I use dustbags but have trouble getting the bag back into the right dustbag so it isn't that important to me what the dustbag looks like as long as it is decent quality fabric.

Gorgeous new bag! And very interesting question. I’m less a fan of boxes as time goes on. They’re heavy, bulky and a pain to store since I don’t keep my items in them. And I say this as someone with 4,000 square feet of finished house space with only three occupants, so plenty of room. I take (and keep) Chanel and Hermes boxes, but that’s because resale (should I ever decide on that route) is better with them. The rest? I’ve started declining since I just get rid of them anyway. And I’m always annoyed that shipping an item doesn’t give me that option.

Dust bags are a different story. Anything and everything that comes with them with the exception of jewelry is stored this way when not using. I use the jewelry ones when traveling, so I love those, too. As a matter of fact, I just went on an ordering spree (Poshmark, Mercari and eBay) to get jewelry pouches for old items that didn’t come with them. And an unpopular Hermes opinion? SLGs with no dust bags. The horror!

ETA: Any chance you can show us the difference via photo? I’m super curious. I don’t own any Polene, so no reference point.

True! I used to use the disposable supermarket bags as bin liners and dog poo bags, now I buy bin liners and dog poo bags :shrugs:

Gorgeous color!
I don’t really care about the boxes. I appreciate nice packaging, but it’s not a deal breaker. Just don’t send it to me in a sloppy, careless way.
I do however care about dust bags since I use them. The worse in my opinion is TB - they feel really cheap & rough.
Disappointing to hear they have changed the packaging though.

By tb do you mean Tory Burch? I like her dust bags because I can make them stand neatly. I hate satiny ones because the slip and slither and don’t stay put. It is funny how we all like different things.

Gucci never used to give out boxes for bags until end of 2015 unless it was an online purchase. Before then, people were rather buying bags from the website just to get the box. So it must mean a lot to lots of people.

Hermes gives a hat box with their hats, when I bought my tweed Funk hat - no box. There I am, ready to go home by train, carrying a £400+ hat one sheet of tissue paper (crown not even stuffed-out) squished in a too small paper bag.

Oh yes, it matters. May as well buy in Zara!
