2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

The back is plain, and there’s a full depth front pocket and an inside slip pocket on the back wall. You can wear the flap to the back or front, and the strap is long enough to wear cross body (but not over a heavy coat for me). It is pretty small! They used to crop up regularly on h.com in various colours in clemence and in BF, and with different colour combos on the bar. Hth

More browns -- clearly I have more bags in this color than any other! D&B Alto (another that is not used much), Florentine mini satchel in natural, and the ginger colored Florentine on the right was a gift.

I have a brown tote sitting in my closet of departing bags, and might add the Alto there as well. Still thinking about it.

I've been tempted to buy the Florentine satchel so many times! The leather is gorgeous!

Today was warm enough that I started putting away more winter woolies, blazers and also my single flap in dark brown. I am still a little on the fence about keeping this bag but I really haven't used it much all winter long, and am unlikely to use it in the warmer months.

Maybe hold it till the fall and then see how you feel about it.

I was looking at the florentine bags this weekend. How do you like them? How do they wear? I held off for now because the one I liked and wasn’t too heavy was very scratched.

You should get it! I love the color natural, but their burgundy and other shades are beautiful too.

I love the florentine leather! They do get some scratches here and there -- I am too lazy to buff them out regularly -- but I also accept and love it as part of the nature of the florentine leather. I don't baby my bags, but I am also careful with all my bags though. The natural color does patina, and the patina somehow softens the look of the scratches.
I have a soft spot for the florentine satchel, as it was one of my first bags, and my mini in natural is not heavy at all. It's the size I would recommend, and honestly, even though it's called a mini, I find it to be a very nice size that easily fits my essentials. I've had it for several years now, and it has held up very well. The other satchel on the right in the color ginger is a bit on the heavier side once all my stuff is inside, but still not too heavy. Do you have any color preference or style in terms of what you're looking for?

Good suggestion, I think I might just do that.

Dark browns seem to sit or go for less than other colors like black, so unless you really need to sell it, I would just keep it.

Thanks, yeah, it always surprises me that they're not more popular since I actually love that shade of dark chocolate. I don't really need to sell it, but I need to use it more as I don't like bags sitting around unused. I kind of wish it was a bit smaller (medium size).

I don’t think I’m old (although the Knight is rather quick to point out my grey hairs) but handbags make me feel old.

My current complaint? Hermes.

So I was reading the blog post about the best grab-and-go Hermes bags, and … they’re all ugly. I’m not talking about the Kelly Depeche. And the WoCs are … inoffensive?

But do you remember the Jean Paul Gaultier days, when bag experiments resulted in things like the Jypsiere, or the Massai, or the Lindy? Not like some weird halted fission reaction were two SLG half-melted into each other.

Back in my day, designers designed bags. Galliano for Dior and Tom Ford for Gucci and JPG for Hermes and Philo for Chloe and Marc Jacobs for LV and even seasonal Chanels would play around a little and … and handbags were fun… “back in the day”.

I like the natural color. I would prefer a satchel with an added crossbody strap.

Are you kidding me? It's one of my favourite bags!

What an amazing gift! My favourite is the tote of the left, please tell me its past season(s)

I must say all your bags look in immaculate condition

I know, I know, I just need to use it more. It's such a wonderfully easy bag to use too, especially being a single flap.
I think I got annoyed with myself for not wearing it more this winter. It's not the color but the size that makes it a winter bag for me (to be worn with coats). I am going to try to use it more. I do have nice coats that go with it really well.

Thank you! The tote on the left (no embossed duck) is Alto Angelina and it's from a few years ago, but D&B make similar designs off and on I believe. The Alto leather is very prone to scratches and they cannot be buffed out so I do baby that one more than others (which is why it has no scratches yet).
