2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

IMHO, all jeans need to be tried on. I don't think it 'skinny' or 'cropped' high-rise or low-pitch that's the problem but the actual pair.

I am in total love-ish with a Saint Laurent pair of high-waisted (I don't normally do high-waisted because I'm short-waisted so high-waisted need to come-up really high or stay mid-low) wide-leg-straight cuts, 100% cotton (no elastane). But they're not quite perfect, someone decided to add a permanent crease down the front, and that killed the look for me because it ruined the 'line'.

Totally agree, the percent of elastane (or lack thereof) definitely can make a difference in the fit of a jean regardless of the size that is stated.

Yea, I don't know much about SL jeans but from what I've seen and heard their jeans are almost 100% cotton. I'm not sure if I can handle that  . I always like a bit of stretch.
That crease sounds so odd. It would probably throw me off too. :yucky:

There is a certain amount of 'give', even in 100% denim. Problem is you can't put on any weight while they're being washed coz they shrink back to their original size

Are there any other designs that caught your attention? I find the website doesn’t do them justice, so it’s great to see them in person.

A photo should be in the post just below yours, but I got the Croisette in Damier Azure. I liked it on the website, but often don’t like bags once I see them in person, so was pleasantly surprised this one worked for me. I wanted something light, carefree and easy, so am happy with this purchase.

I don’t know that in the store there were others drawing me in, but on the website I am loving these.

I looked at Cheval Sirene (double face) very briefly. The colours are gorgeous. In this cw the bolder side ties beautifully, especially featuring the tail - and the other side (softer peach) is very tonal to the bold so even when 'flowing' it's very harmonious. It's a bit more expensive than reg. 90s, but you get more choices. You've got to like both sides equally though.

These color weeks are really making me think about the color gaps in my handbags. I now have 3 black handbags (1 still in return window, but leaning towards keeping) and 2 brown. If a Nolita 19 counted as a real bag, I'd have 2 red, but @Iamminda tells me is an SLG so does not count and I'm just going to run with that. My bags are clustering around a few colors, and I did not initially want that. I theoretically really love purples and blues, but don't have a real blue (well, Brahmin Regal is a sort of blue), nor purple, which is supposedly my favorite color. I don't have yellow, which is supposedly my other favorite color (how many favorite colors can one have)? My 2 brown bags really overlap in functionality. I've told myself that the Polene is darker and so better in winter, while the Gucci is lighter and better in summer, but though it doesn't show well in the photos, in real life the colors are very close to each other. At least among the black, theoretically they are very different as the Kate Spade is for evening or events, the little Coach Willis is for ... something other than an every day bag, which is what the Coach Swagger is. But even the Brahmin picnic blanket pattern and the hot pink/orange one kind of function the same and go with mostly the same outfits. The one blue/green I really have, the Brahmin multicolor, is always on the potential chopping block, as I don't enjoy carrying it due to its stiffness + capacity + large flap, which it turns out I don't like.

As I near my limit for max number of bags I want to have, I have to think carefully about if I want to add more of the same color (the bag I mostly recently lusted over was another brown!) or want to use those positions for colors I don't have. I'm thinking the latter. My birthday's in a couple of months, and I might buy then, so I have a couple of months to think about it.

 super-dangerous! I'm telling you now, Trinity stacks beautifully and you'll be wanting sets too. Price rise 18 April, I'm glad you you made your purchase now.

Congratulations on all your beautiful jewellery.
It’s so funny you mention stacks, since my SA had me stacking two Trinity rings together, one with thicker gold bands than the other (mine is the thinner bands). Very cool look! It’s a good thing we only go to Vegas once a year. If he lived closer… I would be in even bigger trouble. Yes, yes, he can always charge send, but I like to look in person so I can try on and see if it works for me, so I feel like my wallet is just a wee bit safer that way!

There's always another day and something to look forward to

I don't see any overlaps in the bags you have -- maybe for function but not in appearance. There might be a reason you don't have those other colors - even if you like them, you might not like them in bags or they might not go with your clothes. I remember some people feeling like they had to have a red bag, for example, and then once they got one they never reached for it.

You're probably right in the 'not liking them in bags' and 'not going with my clothes' reasons. Still, it feels like my loss to not even try a lavender, or aqua blue, or sunshine yellow bag. I can probably skip the green, honestly. Actually, can skip the yellow too. But purple or blue. I gotta try at least once. Maybe with a fairly affordable one, so it's not so big a blow if it doesn't work out. I'll be on the lookout over the next couple of months. I can only imagine my husband's face when he asks what I want for my birthday and I say another bag.

I found that although I love pastels, they don't go with my clothes. I don't wear pastels because they don't go with my skin. I have a lovely pink bag I almost never wear because of that.

ETA: as I get older, I prefer jeans without stretch. Mainly bc the butt bags out and muffin top rolls in; I need some structure. A legging tends to be less flattering (I have chunky calves, short legs, and a thicker, longer torso. So some flow and a shaped higher waist is best, though I will wear a straight leg.

This is such a good idea.

I have too many bags really to do this but I could put up my personal colour wheel palate and put examples of bags next to. It's going to encourage me to buy the Saint Laurent eel SdJ though because I don't have anything in that spectrum and I know that's a great colour on/near me and I have nothing in that bright amber range :D
