2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

I found that although I love pastels, they don't go with my clothes. I don't wear pastels because they don't go with my skin. I have a lovely pink bag I almost never wear because of that.

Pastels are really tricky for me too. I think that's because when they create pastels, fashion thinks cool (baby blue, ice pink, pale lavender, milky leaf etc). See if you can wear light greyed-shades like pistachio, putty, light smokey blue, pale mustard or conversely sherbet colours.

I have fair skin but high-colouring, the only pastels I can do are shades of peach (my nude) pale corral, apricot and sherbet colours. I cn do light denim but with 'something'.

I just found the most beautiful grey-lavender Summer dress in my wardrobe. It kills me. Basically, it's the colour of the shadows in my face. How to look dead in one outfit :wtf: . I think I'm going to dye it, but it's difficult because it's already light grey-purple (blue+red+blck+wht) I'd have to go redder (brown with purple undertones) bluer (smokey grey) or grey (by adding yellow).

ETA: as I get older, I prefer jeans without stretch. Mainly bc the butt bags out and muffin top rolls in; I need some structure. A legging tends to be less flattering (I have chunky calves, short legs, and a thicker, longer torso. So some flow and a shaped higher waist is best, though I will wear a straight leg.
Gorgeous bags! I love your coat. As far as jeans go I like a bit of structure too. I like straight leg the most.

I'll be using this homemade bag today, so I thought I would share it for the week of blue & indigo bags.
I hardly used this bag because I thought it was too plain, but I think this flower charm makes it way more interesting and less boring.View attachment 5759188

So clever and talented!

My mother made cloth bags (to carry water bottles). I am not clever, the closest I come to making my own bag was using my Romance scarf-ring and a scarf to make an evening bag  .

I much prefer the Vegas boutiques to the DC one. SAs are more helpful, for one thing! Stock is hit or miss there, too, but I find it better in Vegas than in DC. And not just at Hermes…

So today I went back to the DC boutique just to see if they had any of the scarves I was admiring and I had a MUCH better experience. The SA was super enthusiastic about scarves and taught me some folding, helped drape them on me, etc. I think I have ‘found’ my Hermes SA lol.

I looked at Cheval Sirene (double face) very briefly. The colours are gorgeous. In this cw the bolder side ties beautifully, especially featuring the tail - and the other side (softer peach) is very tonal to the bold so even when 'flowing' it's very harmonious. It's a bit more expensive than reg. 90s, but you get more choices. You've got to like both sides equally though.

Today I was able to try this on - in a different colorway than the one I want, but it was educational. It was still difficult to imagine it in the other colors tho. When tied in a very classic way, I.e. fold to the center to elongate and have a simple crossover in front, I struggled to get the patterns to lay out in a way that didn’t seem random. Should have taken pics.

I feel like wearing this scarf like this would allow the design to show

The biggest winner that I didn’t walk away with was this 140cm shawl. It’s one of the cashmere blends I think, so I would be buying it at absolutely the wrong time of year. But I LOVED it.

So glad to hear your return trip was much better! Maybe I’ll have to give them another go.

That CSGM looks stunning on you! Don’t forget our lovely weather here in the DMV will waffle between all four seasons for at least the next six weeks. You could definitely get a lot of use out of it before the sauna sets in. Not to enable, or anything.

You shouldn't have to try too hard with any scarf, even random should be beautiful (like Theatre Nouveau looks on you - lovely).

I love those speeded-up scarf tutorials where the lady makes a scarf dextrously into a flower-tortoise in 30 secs. I'm up for work at 5am and out the house by 6.30, my (laughingly called ) makeup takes no more than 5mins (if I have 5 mins) I'm not thinking "time for scarf-origami and I need to make sure the patterns in right place", I'm thinking "take a scarf coz I don't want to chill" and it's chuck-on presto.

I hear what you are saying about trying too hard. I’m trying to figure I should move on, but I’m still tempted to order the colorway I want and see if I change my mind… but now there is the Theatre one too! Oh my poor wallet.

It sounds like you had a great time. I love the bottom scarf on you.

FYI Something to know about returns, (should you order it, take it home, decide to return it), in the boutique you can only return for store credit, whereas if you order from the website, you can return and get an immediate refund. Of course you could ask the boutique to order for you and just look at it and make up your mind there.

I find it hard to make decisions in the boutique because I find the SA's input distracting and the lightning makes the colors a bit different. I like living with things to make up my mind.

It's beautiful! Happy to hear you found a good SA, and had a better experience!

just found the most beautiful grey-lavender Summer dress in my wardrobe.
Wear it when you are tan or with a brighter mousseline that complements the gray lavender or uses that tone as an accent ?

@Jereni, I love that CSGM  Glad you found a nice SA

ETA: I evaluate scarves by the design along the center bias. I don’t buy any unless I love them so much I’m willing to wear them out of the store.
