2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

Thanks for sharing those titles. I read The Last Thing He Told Me, did you hear that Apple is releasing a TV series based on the book, starring Jennifer Garner? I haven’t read The Family Remains, however, I recall reading the first in that series, The Family Upstairs.
Adding more books to my want to read list!
Also, sorry to hear the new bag doesn’t work for you. I hope you can find another colour that’s a better fit.
I've read The Family Upstairs, possibly other books by Lisa Jewell. I don't keep track of what I've read (I know I should). I only remember that one because I bought it in softcover during lockdown when the library was closed and before I started reading on kindle.

My bag friends, so sorry I remain MIA and unable to respond to all your chat, news and gorgeous bags. I was really looking forward to all the colour weeks but have stayed offline focused on healing. Although, I’m feeling much better, I’m still working hard on recovery with a way to go so very mindful of not pushing myself too much. I’m just working part time for now and my employers are really supportive.

I also managed to have a high impact falling accident too (ridiculous at my age) and ended up in A&E with a head injury getting staples (I still have whiplash!). However, I just wanted to let you all know that I’m thinking of you and sending healing vibes to all who need it and purse love to everyone else!

As I’m finding contentment through awareness and acceptance, in happier news, I’ve ordered two pairs of amazing sparkly shoes with small kitten heels and some pretty tops to go with jeans. It’s part of a bid to find the joy and socialise a bit more. I’m just beginning to add to my long dog walks and cafe trips with cocktails, eating out, theatre and concerts!

Bag usage for three months:

You’ll see it’s mostly my new Bryn Shoulder bag and Kate Spade satchel in black nylon. Both are perfect for a lower key lifestyle. As I get out more it will change.

Book recommendations - if you like history anything by Lucy Worsley: so well written and easily accessible while full of interesting stories and information - if you like poetry, beautiful heart warming and inspirational little book by Donna Ashworth called “I wish I knew”.

Best wishes to all again and I’ll pop back in due course as things level off further.

Fun day yesterday…. Dipped my toes into Hermes for the first time.

Ended going home with an absolutely gorgeous scarf, one of the ‘Jardin’ ones:

This was at the DC boutique, but I must say I don’t know if I will end up going back. That boutique is embarrassingly devoid of leather goods. I was figuring I’d get to see at least a few different bag styles in person, and wallets but NOPE lol. They had like 3 wallets in the whole store and no bags. Granted, I didn’t ask about bags and I’m sure they have stuff in the back that they show to established clients but I am not one of those. I think I’m going to save my Hermes visits for when I’m on travel to LA or Europe… at least the European boutiques I’ve been to were far more fun and allowed more stuff to be seen.
It’s not just DC. All the Hermes are devoid of leather goods. Atlanta doesn’t even have any display bags.

Your scarf is beautiful!!!! Love the colors!

Sorry to hear about your difficulties and injury. I hope you fully recover quickly and would love to see your sparkly shoes…vicarious living!

Gorgeous scarf! Is it a Polene you own that I feel might be in the same blush pink?

The DC boutique is embarrassingly low on more than just bags and SLGs, and that dates back to pre-COVID days. The SAs only seem inclined to assist the more established clients. Every time I go there, I have to basically tackle one just standing around for help! I much prefer Vegas, where stock is better (albeit still not great) and SAs are more willing to be helpful. I’ve only been to H boutiques in Europe once or twice, and only in the more popular tourist places in London like Selfridges. There are more bags on display (even Birkins, which are never on display in the U.S.), but all marked Not for Sale, which I always found curious. Maybe they were reserved for other clients?
When I was in H Florence in November, they had no bags and a very limited selection of scarfs. Like only 7-8 45s, no 70s and maybe 15-20 90s. The SAs were really concerned about having enough stock of anything for Christmas.

I'm sorry about your accident (scary!) and your continuing recovery issues but glad to hear you are getting better. It's nice to hear from you.

It´s so nice to hear from you! Hopefully you will recover from your fall very soon. Congratulations on your purchases. They sound perfect for nice days ahead when you are ready to socialise again. Sending positive energy xx

My white bag. It's a Coach mini Preston. As usual for me, my white bag has something extra. I probably wouldn't have gotten it if it didn't have that lovely blue trim. I love that it is a bright white rather than cream as I don't feel I look good in cream. I love everything about this bag. I haven't had any trouble keeping it clean.

I have a clutch that is mostly white but it is colorblocked so I'll save that for the multi week.

Wow! I love that tone of blue! :heart:It looks like it has a bit of purple in it.
How do you keep it so white? Do you wrap the handles when you use it?

Oh gosh! So sorry about your fall. Wishing you a speedy recovery!
I’m glad you are taking your time with healing. I think it’s important to take it at a pace that works for you. Do you want you need to do!

Thank you! I don't wrap the handles but I usually wear it crossbody so I'm not touching them that much. I haven't done anything to keep it white.

Thanks! I have a Polene Huit in a pale pink but I am working on selling it. Good to know the DC H boutique problem has been going on for a long time.

I’d also had fun in one of the Vegas boutiques previously… it was awhile ago tho.

So good to hear from you. I’m sorry things are still rough, and sad to hear about your accident. Glad you are on the mend tho, take it easy!

Hi @Katinahat, so glad to hear from you. I was thinking of you. Sorry to hear about the fall. I’m wishing you a full physical and mental recovery. Prompted by looking at your bag usage chart, I reflected on my colour usage in the first three months of the year. I leaned heavily into carrying black bags, I wonder if that was due to it being winter months, or my bags carried on holidays, which were small, black, versatile bags. Thanks for the book recommendations. Be well friend. :hugs:
