2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

Bags in or out - zero out, 1 in. I think I told y'all that after the rainy vacation in Maui that I had decided that I needed a coated canvas bag? I bought an LV Graceful in Damier Azur ... pink interior

Scarves in or out - zero out, 2 in - a super duper bargain CSGM and a lovely changeant moussie stole.

Carried 12 different bags (:flowers:), most carried (4 times) was the H Vibrato Picotin.
I read/finished 2 books, and started a new one, 'Pineapple Street' - I am enjoying it so far.

I finished one of the cross stitch stockings (the hard part of it - I don't have a sewing machine so will take to the local tailor to have them put it together for me), and started on the next one. I haven't been doing much because things/life has been so hectic lately. March definitely came in like a lion, and there's only 15 more days of 'tax season'.

Next week I will have my granddaughter for the last part of her Spring Break - I am SO looking forward to it!

Nice stats! Did you share the new LV and I missed it?

I'm continuing my reading pace, 3 to 5 books a month. I still have a backlog of about 20 books on my kindle.

I carried 11 bags this month. I'm tempted by a bag that I can get slightly discounted in the next few days. I'm not sure if I'll go for it.

0s in and items out? Nice work, sounds like you are accomplishing some downsizing! +1 for wanting to hear about the one you are debating on.

March Update: Intentions, Challenges, and Stats
  • Bag Rotation: carried 14
  • Read 1 book: Apples Never Fall by Liane Moriarty
  • My most frequently carried bag in March: Gucci Soho Disco, black; we travelled and this bag was versatile for our activities

Thank you!
I did not share a pic, but when I carry it next I will!

Here you go. Have I shared this one already?

The strap is a Coach iridescent strap from the outlet, bought many years ago now. It changes from blue to purple, depending on the light.

There's a bit of a story here! A friend bought a bag from Etsy in this rainbow suede and I loved how happy it looked. She then gifted it to me, but I ended up returning it without using it because it felt like it was supposed to be hers and I wasn't comfortable nicking it. :P

Then when I was purchasing leather scraps last year, I found a single piece of the same leather (12x24") for sale. I bought it because it made me smile, but I wasn't sure I would carry a bag this loud, so it just sat on my shelf untouched.
Out of the blue, I decided to just make a crossbody bag out of it similar to the one my friend got, with the idea that if I find it too loud to carry, I can either open up the stitches and reuse the leather or just gift the bag on to someone who will enjoy it as it is.

Well, let me tell you, this was a miserable project. The suede is thick so hand-stitching this was an absolute nightmare. I had to take days off in between to rest my fingers. It's unlined because it's so thick that it doesn't need any lining or reinforcement.
It's also larger than I'd normally want but I didn't want to cut up the leather too much in case I decided to undo this and make something else with it later. Unfortunately, the zipper is of cheap quality. It will hold up for a while but will likely need to be changed later on.

I haven't used it yet and I'm not sure I'll be confident carrying it (have I said that it's loud? lol), but I'll give it a whirl over the summer and see how I do. If nothing else, the exercise showed me that I can make a simple crossbody without a pattern. :shrugs:
Thank you for sharing! You hadn´t showed it, yet - or I maybe missed the post.
What a funky yet simple bag! I really like it! I can fully picture you rocking it!

I feel for your poor hands handstitching thick leather- and I know what I´m speaking about from DS´s leather jacket commission. My wonderful sewing machine (early 60ies Pfaff 230) fortunately did most of the impossibly substantial seams (piping plus cording plus several layers of plain leather, but the ones remaining impossible to machine and having to be done by hand really wrecked my fingers. And this was only biker jacket leather. (The real thing, vintage Hein Gericke, not the fashion stuff.)

March stats: No bags in or out. I don't have numbers, but I've definitely rotated my bags a bit better than before, so I'm pleased about that.

The last few weeks have been busy and I've been too tired to even surf websites online to shop. I did however buy three pairs of trousers from mid-range brands. My casual wardrobe has been quite heavily reliant on jeans over the last few years, but this year, I have been moving away from that a bit. I decided it would be fun to try some trousers and picked up two straight leg ones and one which has a slightly wider leg. I will have to see if I actually end up wearing them or go back to my denim (or just end up wearing dresses for spring and summer, which is what I usually like to do this time of year).
Does anyone else here favor trousers over jeans, and if so, what are your favorite silhouettes and how do you style them?

Great Stats! What is the bag that is tempting you? Is it something you really love or just like?
I won't know if I'll really love it until I get it but I've been looking at it for over a month. It's a color that seems to be only available on the Brahmin site, which means it probably won't ever be discounted more. I wasn't looking specifically for this color. I was actually hoping to find a Brahmin in a bright red as I felt the shininess would really complement a color like red, but I really like this color too and the style is adorable, even if it might be hard to use. I really like the 3 Brahmins I have already. They are very affordable so even not on sale, it's a good deal. The reason I haven't already bought it is that there is a coupon for $250+ and it is only $245 so I have to add something to the cart to get the discount. I can't decide if I should get the cheapest thing, a pen for $10, leather conditioner for $20 I don't really need but would possibly use eventually, or a card case for $65 that I don't need but would probably get some use of -- the total I would pay would be a little more than just for the bag but it would be like getting the card case for $15.

Fun day yesterday…. Dipped my toes into Hermes for the first time.

Ended going home with an absolutely gorgeous scarf, one of the ‘Jardin’ ones:

This was at the DC boutique, but I must say I don’t know if I will end up going back. That boutique is embarrassingly devoid of leather goods. I was figuring I’d get to see at least a few different bag styles in person, and wallets but NOPE lol. They had like 3 wallets in the whole store and no bags. Granted, I didn’t ask about bags and I’m sure they have stuff in the back that they show to established clients but I am not one of those. I think I’m going to save my Hermes visits for when I’m on travel to LA or Europe… at least the European boutiques I’ve been to were far more fun and allowed more stuff to be seen.

Beautiful scarf! Enjoy, and have fun styling and post pics when you can!

I'm not properly caught up yet, but I am glad to hear that you and your mom are on the mend, @jblended. The post-virus fatigue is hard. I remember being low-energy for a while after I got it, and it took a few weeks to get back my energy. Just take it one day at a time. Congrats on your jumpsuit! I love when I find a great buy and especially when I am not actually looking for something, but it just happens unexpectedly. Also, I just wanted to post a brief update about the allergy issues since you and others on here were so helpful. The good news is that perfume may not be the issue, so I can slowly start wearing them again. Will start very slowly and probably just wear the same one for a week or so. I will not be testing anything new for a while, but will just stick to a capsule collection, at least for the next few months.

Grey bags

BV Cervo Hobo, Gucci BTH, Titti dell'Acqua Croc/glace mini bag (one of only few minis) MJ for men (DH usually uses it)

Work has been very busy and I know this year will be rough. Did a 13.5 hour workday during the week and went back in around 6am the next day. Reminded me of the pandemic era. Not that it’s going to be that bad; just going to have some crazy days here and there lol.

March has been a testing month for us and our relatively new adopted pug. She was adapting well but we found she had some behavioral issues. She is very needy to the point where she pees on beds and blankets to claim ownership or attention. She loves her older brother but also gets very jealous of him (confusing I know) Drove my husband and I a bit crazy lol. There was a ton of laundry done that month lol. So much that her fur clogged up the filter in the washing machine and causes a bit of flooding.

I don’t blame her of course, she was passed along twice and I can see why she has attachments issues.

It’s just a lot of staying at home and being consistent with training and discipline.

Currently she is doing much better now. I’m sure she will continue to improve.

On the shopping side, I’m looking more into different brands and the pre-loved market. I can see items drop to a decent ~30% on quite a few items. Probably due to some over saturation of the market and people not buying as much because of inflation. There are a couple of bags I’d like to buy pre-loved but it’s just a matter of when. I’d like to buy when it is at an all time low; and I don’t think it’s quite there yet (but close!)

So trying to be patient…

But on the other hand, will probably stop by Hermes next month to pick up some goodies lol. Am interested in a Cartier fragrance that my husband and I tried that we both like (so we’ll probably share it if I get it)

Been very MIA again but have really enjoyed all the photos and discussions!

Wow on the 4 bag outs this month! What have you been reading?
Thanks! My reading taste may not appeal to anyone else. Lately I've been reading books recommended by Amazon, those that are free or fairly cheap on kindle. One I really liked was Keeper of Enchanted Rooms by Charlie Holmberg. It's kind of a fantasy. I also like Frieda McFadden, whose books are thrillers, and Catherine Ryan Hyde, whose books are full of hope. These are all simple fast reads.
