2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

If only I could reinvent myself so easily! I'd buy a better personality in a heartbeat if I could! Thank you!

Thank you! I made a metallic leather bag recently that I really am proud of, but can't remember if I've shared it. :hrmm: I can't get the picture off of my phone right now but I'll be sure to post it when the technology is being cooperative.
(on that note, I have no alerts on tpf at all, which is weird. I can only hope I haven't missed anyone tagging or quoting me)

Men! I'm sure you'll get the results in time. The procedures are much faster than they used to be.
Please tech do cooperate. I´d love to see the metallic bag you made!

March stats

- 2 bags in - nothing spectacular and still no "real" designer bag...
I bought a vintage black kisslock bag for a song and another Kuhn Fine Line imposter (35cm Kelly style) which arrived today.
- no bags out
- no slgs out
- no slgs in. (There´s a red patent Dior wallet out there tempting me... but I should be using my red patent New Lock WOC when I want a red patent wallet and not be looking for another... no matter how great the price is.)

Bags worn: mainly the mustard Dior New Lock.

I´d been on the verge of going for a Lady Dior Avenue, but not really sure whether I actually wanted this bag or only to buy A BAG. The seller promised me more photos after we had already agreed on a price and then didn´t get back to me anymore... somebody else must have offered her more. No regrets! This one wasn´t meant for me!

My idea for another me-make has been moved onto the back burner. My material arrived (two of the cheap"leather donor" jackets I bought directly went to DH who was very quick to claim them, because they were his size and taste "and I can always find something else") and looks suitable.
My project for DS is finished too, but after 3 weeks of very intensive leather work (steep learning curve!) for DS my hands are more than sore and I´m fed up with sewing leather for now.

I'm continuing my reading pace, 3 to 5 books a month. I still have a backlog of about 20 books on my kindle.

I carried 11 bags this month. I'm tempted by a bag that I can get slightly discounted in the next few days. I'm not sure if I'll go for it.

So, there you have it - my New Year's resolution for 2023. Wish me luck on my quest to shop my own bags!
Best of luck! We're here to help if you need to be reminded of your resolution. :)
Worn: 31, 12 of them twice
WOW! Giving each bag a twirl!
Next week I will have my granddaughter for the last part of her Spring Break - I am SO looking forward to it!
How lovely! Have a wonderful time!

I really haven't read a book in ages! You've inspired me to pick one up and get started again. :)

Please tech do cooperate. I´d love to see the metallic bag you made!
Hopefully it'll behave and I can upload later today. Though my amateur work will never compare to yours! ;)

Here you go. Have I shared this one already?

The strap is a Coach iridescent strap from the outlet, bought many years ago now. It changes from blue to purple, depending on the light.

There's a bit of a story here! A friend bought a bag from Etsy in this rainbow suede and I loved how happy it looked. She then gifted it to me, but I ended up returning it without using it because it felt like it was supposed to be hers and I wasn't comfortable nicking it. :P

Then when I was purchasing leather scraps last year, I found a single piece of the same leather (12x24") for sale. I bought it because it made me smile, but I wasn't sure I would carry a bag this loud, so it just sat on my shelf untouched.
Out of the blue, I decided to just make a crossbody bag out of it similar to the one my friend got, with the idea that if I find it too loud to carry, I can either open up the stitches and reuse the leather or just gift the bag on to someone who will enjoy it as it is.

Well, let me tell you, this was a miserable project. The suede is thick so hand-stitching this was an absolute nightmare. I had to take days off in between to rest my fingers. It's unlined because it's so thick that it doesn't need any lining or reinforcement.
It's also larger than I'd normally want but I didn't want to cut up the leather too much in case I decided to undo this and make something else with it later. Unfortunately, the zipper is of cheap quality. It will hold up for a while but will likely need to be changed later on.

I haven't used it yet and I'm not sure I'll be confident carrying it (have I said that it's loud? lol), but I'll give it a whirl over the summer and see how I do. If nothing else, the exercise showed me that I can make a simple crossbody without a pattern. :shrugs:

That's very pretty! I admire you for your persistence. I hate sewing leather! I love that strap. I looked all over for it but never found it when it was on sale.

Thank you very much! I don't mind sewing leather if it's just to attach a handle or fix one spot, but sewing the body of a bag is misery! Especially because I get mad at myself if the stitches aren't perfectly uniform, which is so difficult to do when saddle stitching. It would probably be a lot easier with a sewing machine.

If I find that strap for sale anywhere, I'll be sure to post it for you. I got it at the outlets by chance. I went in for a look around and this one strap was left at a very low price, so I grabbed it. I don't use it enough but it looks really nice with this rainbow bag, so I'm happy to have taken two things off my shelf that were just sitting there and have made them more functional.

Great Stats! What is the bag that is tempting you? Is it something you really love or just like?

one of them is making a tour around the country courtesy of the shipper.
Drives me nuts when they do that! Hope you get it soon.
Please post your thoughts on the Hammitt when it arrives. I remember the last one didn't quite work out for you.
I was looking at their puffy leather bags a while back and was seriously tempted in the sale. Thankfully, I am determined not to add until I cut my collection in half (by which time, I'll hopefully have fun money to play with because this economy is killing me). :P

Will do! The last one was beautiful and fantastic quality just a bit to small. This one is slightly bigger. It is having quite a trip. It went across the US made it to one state away, then down a few states and now back to one state away . Hopefully heading towards me now.

Love it! Don’t forget that a bag is part of an outfit so one that might feel loud to you on its own can be the perfect punch to a simple or monochromatic look. Once you get used to wearing it, it will be all good. Wear it with pride! You made this! And that is amazing!!!!
