I know it is time to get rid of a bag when every time I plan to wear it and I grab something else instead. That is where the love it or list challenges helped. It forced me to wear some of them and when I actually wore it I got my answers. Some I fell back in love with and wondered what was wrong with me not wearing it and others were so annoying to wear that I dropped them at the consignment shop.

I have one bag I’ve been thinking of getting rid of for some time now. Your comment about reaching for something else every time you think of using it ... well, that is this bag. I have worn it six times this year — the last time was a test to see how it works. And, it has some issues — the closure isn’t great so it flops open, and the crossbody strap is too skinny for a bag of its size. But I love the color and have trouble parting with it when I look at it. Also, it’s a contemporary brand that I paid full price for, and I know I’ll get a stupidly small amount on consignment. So I keep waffling, even though I know I should just let it go.

Just like calories consumed on holidays don’t count...

Surely gifts from Mr Dawn on our anniversary (okay, one of our 3 anniversaries**) don’t count towards any kind of quota?! :smartass:

A Smythson notebook in “Live, Love, Laugh” which perfectly matches a little “Live, Love, Laugh” pouch I had from before. I use these little pocketbooks from Smythson as travel diaries.

I will wait to open the Chanel SLG and makeup. We went shopping together, so I know what it is, but I think I’ll defer the pleasure of using these

** Told you we celebrate everything @Sparkletastic :coolio:

Yay for a sweet DH! Happy Anniversary!!

For me bags like this will, I know, eventually leave my collection. But just like you, I prolong the decision. And when I do decide, I would just accept the (low) price that it will fetch.

I don't have a number but realistically I have too many bags for all of them to get much use. If I divide the number of days in a year by the number of bags, each one wouldn't be allotted very many days. That just seems wasteful to me. That is the only reason I want to have less. I think at minimum, each bag should be carried for 2 weeks a year. That means I should only have 26 bags. I can keep a few more than that for special occasion bags or vintage bags that are collectibles rather than bags I want to use. But I'm way over that amount.

None of my bags were expensive, so the money isn't the issue. Still, it doesn't make sense to sell something at a big loss if I even use it once in awhile. That's the problem I have right now. The bags I would reduce from my collection wouldn't bring in much money if I were to sell them, so maybe it is better just to keep them. For example, I have this bag that cost $25. It has fur trim. DH hates it. I love carrying it a few times a year just to tease him!

I like your logic of 2 weeks every year! [emoji848] I kinda do that somehow unless sometimes, time just flies and it turns into a month. [emoji28] But I like that idea even though I think I’ll need more than 3 years. [emoji28]

That's sort of what it looks like! It is so soft. I love petting it. It is kind of ridiculous looking.

Yes, I have that problem of selling something expensive for peanuts. If I do that, I'll know exactly how much money I lost. I know you are supposed to think of it like you recouped some of your costs. Someone called it the stupid tax, the money you have to pay for your mistakes.

That’s so cute! [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] I can understand your husband, but it’ll make such a cute Christmas bag! This can be your special Christmas bag! Well, I’m crazy, but I have this special Balenciaga Pourpre twiggy that I carry every Chinese New Year. [emoji4] It’s my Chinese New Year bag.

Me, too. Most of the time, I’d just give it away so it’ll be out of my closet. [emoji29] I’m a very bad person in this financial sense when it comes to bags.

Maybe your not quite ready yet. Wear a few more times and see how you feel then.

I usually do carry my crazy fur bag at Christmas. I have a poupre Bal Club bag that I love! I carry that bag all year round! I'm curious about the Twiggy. It seems so long and skinny.

If the strap is removable, can you use a different strap? They make a lot of nice novelty straps these days. I have a Coach that had a stupid, ugly strap that was permanently attached on one side. I had it removed even though that would kill resale. I'm not one to alter bags - it seems like sacrilege - but I finally got the nerve up to do it to this bag. It looks so much better. Then I took a strap off another bag to use with it, but most of the time I just hand carry.

The strap is removable, but the problem really is that the bag is too unstructured for me for the size. Plus, it has a single snap closure that is hard to close because the bag is floppy, but if it stays open things can fall out. I’ve thought about taking it to a cobbler to see if they could put in a zipper, but I think I’d just be throwing good money at a bag that probably isn’t going to work.

I think after the holidays I’ll take it to consignment and see what they say for pricing.

@catsinthebag

I have a much cheaper potential solution for you. You could try using a bag liner. If it’s a felt one, it will have a structure and help keep your bag’s shape. You can even get ones with zippers on the top.

Something like this (see snapshot). I have a couple of no-name ones I bought from Amazon. There are loads of options on eBay and Amazon.

Happy Anniversary! What are the three anniversaries — when you met, when you got engaged, and when you married?

Yay for a sweet DH! Happy Anniversary!!

Happy anniversary!

Thank you! :hugs:

The three anniversaries are engagement, when we signed the wedding papers (like the registry bit), and actual wedding (big party!)

Sometimes we forget the engagement anniversary and then we remember and just go for a belated dinner date :giggle: but we’re good at remembering the other two dates.

Oh me too. I donate. I don’t think there’s a good market for resale of bags in the UK. That’s why I need to be mindful in purchasing in the first place
