Medium sized works best for me. I have a set group of things I carry and never can be without: french purse style wallet, sunglasses, small medicine pouch, small makeup bag, keys, iPhone, pen, lotion, tissues. I’m not going to leave these things at home. And I don’t want to work to make them fit.

The WOC will be ok because I’ll carry the extra things in my work tote or I’ll be in a unique situation like a black tie event where I won’t need everything.

But, mini bags just because? Nope. I need function not just fashion.
I tend to carry a clutch with a shoulder strap option. I am getting more and more about function as time goes on. I’m just tired of doing exactly what you said: juggling a glass of wine or little plate of food while also trying to hold a cutesy bag. Just no.
This is good to know. The bags are adorable and I’ve been considering a BB.
Thanks!!

That’s funny. I find Dior boutiques to be really welcoming. The staff is always so warm. Chanel can be hit or miss.
Yes, I neeeeeeeeeed my sunglasses! Have you looked into foldable ones? I’ve made a cursory search but didn’t see cute ones.

In term of the SA, Dior hands down has much better SA, but I don’t like how their boutique is decorated. Chanel SA can be snooty, but their boutique is more gone down on the intimidation level. But that’s just the chicken in me. [emoji28]

  Ok dearest darlin Vink, I THANK YOU for this laugh!! OMG too funny. Am I THAT transparent (w/ chanel?) Gosh, I do have other brands that I use & adore but yes, I guess I still am under the spell :cray: of crazy Karl  BUT, to my defense, I have not :no:bought any new chanel, or ANY new bags all year long w/ just ONE exception (my mini Gucci Marmont) & I have zero plans to add anything. Again, I do thank you for making me laugh HARD at your comment:hugs:

[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] No, you’re not that transparent, but I totally blame it on you for luring me back to Chanel again. I’d been off Chanel spell for years. I think 5 [emoji848] (since the great price increase in 2012, I think), until one day your wonderful pastel beaded brooch magically showed up on my feed and it’s like all hell break loose. You wouldn’t know how hard it is to go into boutiques again and again in many countries trying to find that brooch or even asking friends and personal shoppers to find it for me. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] I was so crazy. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] And yeah... I kinda fall back under the spell again. The horrifying thing about that beautiful brooch is that it brings lots of friends into my closet. [emoji29] But I wowed to be good after this cruise. I really hope I could. Can I bundle spring and summer with the cruise so they don’t count and I have time until fall? [emoji28]

Well, until I get my dress (which needs to be long, so I'll need to buy one) I don't know for sure yet. I have a vintage clutch bag from the 1940s that I just love, which I think would be fun to carry onless it's a definite "no" with the dress. It's made out of fabric, with a lucite handle. Don't know if I've ever shown it here?

The one thing I've decided for sure about the dress is that it will NOT be black!!! Everything I own is black. For once I want to break out in a bit of color. But I don't want something all froufrou and ruffles... that's just not me. There's a small boutique in my (very small) town that gets one-of-a-kind dresses from France, and I dropped in to speak to the owner a couple of weeks ago. She told me that if I find something I like, but it's too large, she can get it made for me in a smaller size if I give her enough lead time. So I'm going to go back after the Christmas and New Year scramble and really start to take this seriously. :panic: :panic: :panic:

This is the bag. The ripple-y fabric was called cordé, perhaps because it looked a bit like corduroy. But it's not corduroy, it's individual pieces of gimp stitched to a fabric background. It was a very hot item back in the 1940s.

Wow! The lucite part looks like a dragon. I think it can go with anything jewel tone.

Hi all!!! Another year is coming to an end. It’s always been an amazing ride with you ladies - I haven’t been able to be as active in this year’s thread as much as I would have liked, but I love popping in and still seeing everyone cheering each other on! I’ll be starting 2019’s thread soon and look forward to old and new members, and everyone’s new 2019 resolutions!

For 2018, I wasn’t able to not buy any bags or slgs, but I did manage to reach my target of letting go 10 from my collection; also, everything I purchased has been put to good use! My very first purchase of 2018, has not left my side since I bought it in January - the only piece that I’ve used every day, for almost a year! That in itself amazes me haha. I definitely know it was a good buy. View attachment 4282227

Has everyone started thinking about their goals for 2019? I’ll be back later today to start the new thread, and can’t wait to see all the resolutions roll in!

So glad to see you back, Egg! I’m glad you have a successful year.[emoji4] I can’t wait to hear an update from you. [emoji4]

I took the day off to go to Hades... I mean the mall. There are just some things I need and online shopping isn’t solving all my problems.

I asked one of my shopaholic friends their advice for finding new brands / stores to try and she had some advice that struck me as logical but kinda snarky. She said that if she goes into a store and the other customers aren’t dressed like she likes it’s a sign to her to turn around and leave.

I drink about this. I am not in typical Sparkle wear right now. I’m in sneaks, jeans and a sweater...because I’m shopping. Not at an event.

What do you ladies think of this?

I dress casual everyday and won’t be in a gown unless I’m going to a “formal” event. If I’m curious enough, I’ll go in and check to see if they have what I want. I believe people may like the same thing even though they may dress differently.

I think it was @ipsum who just asked about buying duplicates when you don’t want to spend the money on the item that first interested you. I don’t do that with bags but I’m thinking I may do that with a pair of shoes.

I’ve wanted these Gucci glitter sneaks since they first came out. But I can’t stomach the price at $730. They would be the most I’ve ever paid for shoes and would be SNEAKERS!!!View attachment 4282400
But, I keep lusting for them. I just saw these at Dillard’s. I know they are different but I it might satisfy my glitter sneaker lust. View attachment 4282401I dunno. I hate to spend the money on the others. But I reeeeeeaaaaally want them. My rationale for them is that I don’t own lots of sneakers because I don’t wear them often. So shouldn’t I have thr two or three pair I really like when I do wear them?

I’m not sure if I’d get myself in the pickle I used to on bags and end up buying them later and wasting money on the MK’s.

(One other concern with the Gucci’s. Do I have to “match” the blue and red stripe with my clothes. Would they be wearable with black, pink, green, etc?

Why do you not often wear sneakers in the first place?

I’ll tell you my story. I wear sneakers Everyday. For more than 2 decades already. I don’t have a lust for Gucci sneakers though, but one day before my recent trip, I dropped by the duty free mall to see if there’s anything interesting since it’ll be a chance for me to get them tax free. (Tax and duty for such luxury in my country is about 30% so it’s freaking high.) I found a white Bally leather sneakers with a very cute heart on the side. Bally makes excellent footwear. My parents swear by them. I like everything about it; the color, the motif, the material. It looks so cute and dressy while being casual chic. Plus, it’s on sale! 20% I think. It was hard when I tried it on which I don’t know if that’s normal, but it’s leather so it’s supposed to soften up. The price isn’t so bad. Right now, if I want some NMD or Yeezy or some cool sneakers, I may have to pay about the same amount of money or more for the limited edition.
At the end, I decided against it because I’m not sure how fast the leather will soften up and I don’t think I’m patient enough to wait. But that’s my reason for not getting leather sneakers even though I wear sneakers all the time.

What’s your reason for not wearing sneakers at all in the first place?

You may end up shouldn’t be buying any of these sneakers at all.

I joined this thread way back on page 9..:amuse: and ever since then I just lurked about..my resolution was to refrain from buying unnecessary bags and if I have the urge to buy , limit myself to just 2 bags. I'm happy to report that i manage to follow through on that resolution.. two bags in and sold 1 bag. Selling that 1 bag was such a surprise for me since I have never sold anything before.. I also binned 1 bag that is beyond salvaging/repairing..so all in all a good handbag year for me..:flowers:

I don’t wear sneakers often because I adore high heels! :hbeat: Even when I’m casual, I wear casual high heels. Lol! I only wear sneakers or flats when I’m outside (backyard, park, etc.) walking for quite a while (airports, malls, etc.) or doing something athletic.

I’m wearing flats and sneakers a teeny more now because of the toe surgery and its hellish 6-12 month recovery. :crybaby:I’m only just at 5. So, it’s amazing I’m in heels at all. I’m lucky I healed well and had wonderfully aggressive physical therapists (who knew there is toe PT?)

So anyway, I need 2-3 pair of sneakers and 2-3 pair of flats. Today, I mixed the two and got a sparkly sneaker flat from Steve Madden. Much cuter than the MK and it’s SUPER comfy! I’m very happy with it. No regrets on not spending a bazilliondy dollars more on the Gucci sneaks. Thanks everyone for talking me out of that crazy tree. 1D6021C6-F4FD-4DC3-9DD9-0062F88CFEB6.jpeg
I found the simple black leather knee high stiletto boots I’ve been looking for. Everything is suede and thigh high! Or has western styling. Am I the only one who isn’t going about life in character? I don’t want to look like a pirate or a cowboy. :whut: These boots by Schutz (who?) have the most buttery soft leather lining! Love them!

I still can’t find cute chunky heeled knee high boots or ankle booties. :shrugs:

...buuuuut I wouldn’t be Sparkle if I didn’t go off script a bit and get some fun heels. :graucho: Lol! I bought these too!

and Steve Madden5CFC7556-5449-4711-85A6-14A10F3A089E.jpegI looked at some cute Valentino, Jimmy Choo etc. boots and then saw the price tags. :faint: I’m just not ready to spend that much on shoes. The premiere shoes I have, I bought on sale at half price. Full price. Nope!

I’m done with all wardrobe shopping til the after Christmas sales season. I’m accepting that I need to shop once a month to pick up things on a one off basis as they pop up. :frown: Doing my marathon shopping twice a year is too much work.

BTW, happy birthday, Spark.
Thank you!!

Congrats!!! And, don’t just lurk. We’d love to hear from you.

I like the sneakers you finally got!! And I'm jealous of the stilettos.
I have been having my own transformation heels wise since maybe 2 years ago. I started buying lower heels and also buying more flats and sneakers. Mainly because my knees are getting older! I'm glad that sneakers are back in fashion, regardless of age group. So there are casual days that I just feel like wearing my sneakers.

Oh, and I have a funny story about my sparkly Tory Burch sneakers. Remember this:

Well, I was at the car dealership a few weeks ago with this pair on. I needed to talk to somebody from the Body and Paint group. Imagine a very manly environment. Then this guy from there walked towards me and told me, "your shoes are nice!!" I was really surprised! Lol!

What do you put in teenagers’ stockings??????? They have forbidden me from toys/puzzles/books so....... socks socks and more socks? My health conscious 15 year old athlete shuns sugar so filling it with chocolates and candy doesn’t work.
So I’m off to Hades today as well to try to find some unicorn cool items they would like for their stockings. Their sisters already have goodies for their stockings but....man their stockings are so big they could be dresses for those little ladies so I think I need more for them. Just more.... Although I am a fan of filling up any remaining empty space with clementines. Everyone loves clementines (or mandarins as they are called in this country).

I am going to try to be a good girl for 2019 and have goals for the year and for each month and stick to them. I’ve been on here in 2016, 2017 and this year and never really had the mental space during grad school to get methodical. But grad school is over (well I’m still working on this thesis but the daily grind of going to university and sitting in classes and turning in assignments) so now I think for 2019 I’m going to join you guys on keeping stats. Yay!

2018 Goals Review

This is the first year I hit all my goals. Whoop! :yahoo:

1. Have a 100% success rate on purchases

Well, I didn’t purchase anything til the last 15 days of the year. LOL! Mr. S bought 2 bags for me and I don’t see them going a-ny-where. So, I have to say he met this goal too.

2. Sell 7 bags: 4 purgatory, 3 collection

I sold / donated 16 bags!!! :faint: I never would have thought I’d clear out so many. Even at the start of the year I was blind to what needed to go. But, it feels great!

3. Buy no more than 5 bags

I only bought 1 bag. Yay! Again, this goal was made a little easier by getting two bags as gifts. Buuuuuut, I’ve received bags before and still went crazy shopping. :-s So, I’m proud of myself for finally shopping my closet.

2019 Goals
1. 100% success rate on purchases

This will be a forever goal for me

2. Sell up to 2 bags

I want to replace the Proenza Schouler bags. So, since this sell goal is contingent on buying, I’m wording it as “up to”. It won’t be failure unless I buy PS replacements and don’t sell.

3. Buy no more than 4 bags and 1 SLG

Some options:
  • (the infamous) Black tote
  • 1 - 2 work bags - may be another WOC if the Dior works out.
  • 1 - 2 PS replacements - unless logomania dies down I’ll never find these
  • Possible fun bag - I loooooove the two bags Mr. S bought me this year. I NEVER would have bought them. So, I’m opening myself up to indulging myself if something fun and frivolous comes along.

Apple / Spotify / Hulu gift cards, small electronics (power cubes, Bluetooth earbuds, retro video games, etc.), sterling silver jewelry, journals, blender bottle, cool phone case, balance board, weight training gloves, charcoal / pencils and art portfolios, battle rope, glow in the dark posters, gloves that can handle touchscreens, protein powder, snarky / cool slogan t shirt, weighted jump rope, water bottle, keychains, crazy wash out hair dye in school colors, sunglasses...?

But mom, fruit? Noooooo... put the fruit in a bowl and get the kiddos something interesting. I tended to like things that encouraged them to think and do.
