And WHEW my Dior red flap is now out of eBay Authenticate Hell. 60 days is up and no one bought it even at $480, which is great because I would have only cleared $400 after commission and PayPal fees (not to mention what I spent shipping it over the Atlantic) and that bag is definitely worth more to me than that. I would have been sad to clear $600 for it not to mention less than $400, it was like $2500 new if I'm not mistaken, when I bought it in Paris. So I really am glad to get it back and not sell it cheap. I never disliked it but would have been OK with selling it for about $750 or more. The color is hard to match with my wardrobe.
The same bag in black sold here in Europe on eBay recently for under $500 ; I know because I bid on it. So I guess it makes sense if the black only got $450 on auction then the red wouldn't get more than that. Then again the black wasn't professionally authenticated and I thought that was value added to the selling process which is why I sent them two expensive bags to sell on my behalf. But it turns out I could have done much better for myself, I believe, by selling them myself. Oh well you live you learn.

Hi everyone! It’s been a crazy week (including a 5-hour visit from the root-rooter guy, ugh), so I’ve been dropping in to “like” posts but haven’t had time to really comment.

I’m in the midst of a big closet clean-out, trying to get rid of lots of stuff I don’t wear or use. Earlier this week, DH and I donated 24 bags of clothes and a few household items. I still can’t get over the sheer volume. Where does it all come from? To answer my own question, I realize my problem is that I don’t get rid of old stuff when I buy new. Case in point, I gave away two classic wool coats I hadn’t worn in years. I was really surprised local consignment wasn’t interested in them, but that’s another issue. The thing is, when I’ve bought new coats, I still have this thought of, “Well, maybe I’ll still wear this old one.” And then I don’t, but I hesitate to get rid of it because it’s still in good shape. Same thing happens with jeans. I probably gave away 10 pairs that have sat in my closet for years because they don’t fit quite right or are no longer in style.

Anyway, it felt very good to get rid of all that stuff! Next steps are to take several pairs of boots to local consignment, and photograph some Hermes bangles and scarves to send to online consignment. I have too much stuff I don’t use!
Every time I’ve done a purge I feel happier. It gets addictive. I’m got down to the bare minimum and am now rebuilding VERY carefully so I don’t end up in the same place.

One thing I committed to doing is only keeping clothes if they:
• Are in perfect condition
• Have an impeccable fit
• Are items I love

No “fat jeans” or aspirational teeny clothes from college. Everything that needed tailoring I either got tailored or donated. And anything even a little worn (and not repairable) got dontated. It’s surprising how many items I had in my closet that just weren’t immediately wearable.

The tough part was getting rid of “perfectly good” clothes that I didn’t love. It felt like a waste. But, I finally realized that they are only clothes. I should feel happy about what I wear every day. I’m not helping me or anyone else wearing clothes that are marginal.
As I said, I felt I needed to rotate my everyday bags, so I was ready to change bags before I left to work. However, before I went to sleep and I was thinking about which bag I’d wear today, I felt I didn’t want to switch out of my Sofia Coppola! That made me super happy, so today I went to work with her again. I’m very satisfied that I’m being able to make her match my casual style, even though I’m sure most SC lovers would want to kill me for “destroying” how she’s supposed to look, lol. Crossbody is the way to go for me most of the time! Now I’m eager to find more fun straps to play with her  (Again, sorry about the messy background!)
Great look!
Oh good job Mr Sparkle! How lovely of him. Congratulations :drinks:
I love the bag. I can’t wait to take her out!
DH won't let me purge any of his clothes. His argument, even though he'll never wear them again, is that he has a smaller percentage of the closet than me so there is no need. I think he is afraid that if he gives up closet real estate, my stuff will creep over.
LOL! He has to defend his borders against wife creep.

we do ours together, DH purges his, i do mine, and we just put all 'to go' in one pile which we donate once we are done.
so we both have some free space ;)
Mr. S and I do the same thing. It’s hard to “see” when your own things need to go. But someone else can be merciless. Lol!!!
Ladies, thanks very much for all the help in looking critically at my bag collection, I’m feeling much more comfortable about the price increase induced panics (!) and thinking about what I actually want, rather than what I feel I should buy to avoid price increase regrets.

I’ve identified that I need two flat card holders: one rough and tough one for work (I currently use a metallic rose gold no-brand I bought in New Zealand) and one premier (maybe Chanel or YSL) for a wallet replacement in WOCs. I really don’t like using card slots that are fixed in WOCs.

I’ve also thought that I am loving and really using light weight mini bags, so I’d love to find a DA Pochette to go with my mono one that gets used ALL the time. Ideally I’d like one premier party bag (small clutch). And if I buy any new mini bags, I want fun/pop colours in a hard wearing leather.

I have lots of occasions coming up, and just had my 10th anniversary at work for which they gave me a Selfridges gift card. I’m thinking hard about what my next purchase will be. And I may well donate more of my contemporary bags to make space.

So that’s my update.

In the meantime, pulling out another “oldie” from my wardrobe to see how much I love it. Burberry Hernville in Military Red.
I’m glad you’re settled!
I always feel odd using card slots in a bag too. It feels less secure which is so silly. I need to get over it.
SSSSssssooooo special, congratulations :yahoo:
Thanks!!!
Well, the spirit is weak...Gave the go signal to buy the black Leighton! My sister’s whole family (DH, DS, DD and their respective SOs plus grandkids) bought my bag last night. [emoji3] And I was with them too through Whatsapp video! [emoji3]

I think the proportion is a bit off in this photo. The bag appears too large. Well, my sister is shorter and with smaller frame than me. Here is she holding my bag at the boutique. [emoji3][emoji3]

I love it. It’s very close to the style of the Jimmy Choo without replicating the look. Yay!

I don't like using card slots in a bag because I don't want to have to move my cards around. I've left them in bags before. I would much rather move my card case from bag to bag. But then I have even less room for my stuff in tiny bags.

Exactly. Hence maybe WOCs are not for me and what I really need is small bags that don't have card slots.... I don't actually have any bags with card slots anymore I don't think! Yahoo.

I used to have a small bag with card slots, and it was fine... because that small bag was the only bag I owned! (Obviously, this was before I joined tPF and my entire life changed.) :giggle:

But now I completely agree with you. I keep my cards in my little French Flap wallet, along with some cash, and it's easy-peasy to move the wallet from one bag to another. And if the bag is tiny, which is only if we're going out to a restaurant or the symphony or something like that, then I don't need everything in my wallet... I have a little card case that just has room for my driver's license, one credit card, one debit card, and $20 emergency funds.

I have a little card case with my DL, major credit cards, my health insurance card, debit card that I take everywhere. I have a larger wallet that has cash, store credit cards, coupons, and rewards cards. I carry it along with the card case in larger bags but when I switch to a tiny bag, I leave the large wallet at home. This way, I never have to move cards around. I have an emergency $20 in my coin purse.

Getting rid of “perfectly good clothes that I don’t love” is the easiest for me. But throwing away ratty pieces that I wear it so often the thread is becoming bare is harder. And throwing away clothes I love and has worn years and years ago when I still thin is the hardest. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]
