I've never lived anywhere without 4 distinct seasons so I'm of no help. Hard decisions to make, I wish you well with your move! This topic is so relevant to me right now as I am relooking at my collection with an international move in mind.
Here in Canada. I walk most of the time in an urban, but spaced out city. Crossbody bags are my go to, layered over jackets and coats. My second love is for hand held bags, which is also great for my lifestyle. I haven't really got a preference for open top or zipper bags.
Moving to Singapore, I foresee that this will change. I will be taking crowded transportation to get around so open top bags are a no, and handheld bags are impractical. Also with thin clothing I'm not sure if I will like crossbody bags as much anymore as it may be too body emphasizing. So I may be shifting to carrying totes or convertible hobos a lot more.
My tastes have also reverted back to simple designs. I am actually happiest in my Fossils. Now that I know this, I think I am not really tempted by the high end brands anymore.
I am excited about our move to Singapore, but can I say how sad I feel about getting rid of my winter coats and boots? I purged the wool coats without too much regret but am staring at my four puffers, wondering how I can possibly choose from them when it took ages to find puffers that look flattering and keep warm. And then, how to say farewell to my leather riding boots? I can't! Thank goodness I am not a shoe person with twenty pairs of boots. And then my cashmere sweaters... I don't know what to do with my cashmere... I don't want to part with them but I'm not sure how to store them otherwise.
I can't help but confront my collecting self with questions. Why did I have to accumulate things when parting with them brings sorrow? What happens when you love and are attached to things but have to give them up? Is there a reverse Konmari method I can use to get through this?

Is this a permanent move? If not you could think about storing them? I understand how you feel, I've lived in warm countries and I did miss seasons, I love buying winter clothes!

I'd say this. [emoji4] Keep your winter gear that you love. Clean them thoroughly then store them in a compressed pack, especially if they're a puffer coat to save space. Even though it's a permanent relocation, you'll get to travel again and you'll need them. About the boots, Singapore is hot, but not much. People are also dress fashionable here. Maybe bring with you one or two pairs of your boots to see how they fit. You can also get rid of them later.
Keep a few pieces of style that you love but think it may not work in the new place and see how it goes later. I relocate quite a few times in life. I'd say sometimes, I overthink things and too hurry to judge or get rid of things that I should actually keep. It's true that bringing "all" isn't practical, but it doesn't hurt to keep a few that you really like and see how it turn out later. You may get to keep it after all. I have a Burberry heavy wool coat from more than a decade ago. No way I can wear it here, but I get to wear it everytime I travel somewhere cold and it's always in style. One of my best purchase ever! [emoji4] and yeah... now I can wear it perhaps a week every year or even less, but then I don't have to buy a new coat for every trip I'm going to take.
If parting with stuff bring me such sorrow, I just keep them. Seriously, I tried making up my mind and letting it go. One of my bad decisions. I keep thinking about it and wonder if my life will be easier if I only keep it. (At least, I don't have to do the replacement shopping.) I decide that I won't do that again. When I let the stuff go, I have to know there's no "love" left anymore. Only the well meaning for it to find a better home, or I just don't care. Otherwise, I'll keep wondering on what if.
Here are my black bags. I have an outstanding special order and then I am DONE. Feels so good. I LOVE and use every one of these bags.

I love Evelynes in color. If I were not sworn to downsizing I'd be looking for one in BE or something similar. One thing I AM short on is light-colored or "summer only" bags - I have my gold/camel bags and that's it. I may allow myself an inexpensive straw number this season.Seeing all these black bags has me rethinking if I should've gotten my Evelyne in black or a neutral instead of orange.
But where I live, Orange can be worn often.
Sounds like a good plan . To get rid of it when you might need it again would stink.Haha nothing is permanent when it comes to DH's work, so we've learnt to roll with it. Would be good if we can make it work for at least a few years in Singapore though. My MIL has offered to store some things in her basement so we will probably box up some of the gear and mail it across the country. Pricey but at least it beats renting storage. But I don't really want to clutter her place too much also.
Thank you!
That's what I was thinking too. If we come back, it will be a pain having to buy all these things again. Yeah I think I will end up taking some of my things with me. The really arctic stuff I will send to my in laws and I will keep the gear suitable for milder winters. I will just have to make up excuses to go for "winter getaways". Your Burberry coat sounds like a great buy, that really is what an investment piece should be.
