I didn’t think the 3rd bag I mentioned in my previous post was going to come until after Christmas since I didn’t get it yesterday. It arrived today. [emoji3] I forgot that I purchased the matching little coin purse too, so I also am 1 more slg in for 2017.

Even though it’s my goal breaker, I will thank/blame @HopelessBagGirl for this purchase! [emoji7]

@HopelessBagGirl’s purchases from Cathy Roels who has an Etsy shop located in Belgium, took me to her listings. This is the first time, in a long while that I saw a bag, and thought ‘I have to have that’! I thought long and hard because I knew that it would take me over my preset 2017 goals. The thought of not having it made me anxious though, as I have not seen her make more than one of any bag. Even if she made the same style I don’t think it would be in the same leather. I wanted a handmade bag, that didn’t have a homemade look, if that makes sense.

The quality on this bag is amazing. She does the quilting herself. It is fully lined in black leather. I’ve checked this bag thoroughly, and there is not a stitch out of place.

I have been pretty silent this week due to the chaos of the holidays, and that I have begun searching for my next dog!

I’ve been to two shelters already. It breaks my heart all those cuties will be spending the holidays at a shelter

But since this dog will be my dog, I am trying to find one that really matches me. One that’ll be keen to crate train and travel.

I’m also venturing into a different size breed from the Labrador size I’ve had my whole life. So lots of research, which pet insurance to buy, all for my future dog.

Wish me luck, I hope 2018 brings my new adorable companion.

It’s great because I’ll be on a handbag ban, so my fur baby will be spoiled with my handbag fund.

Yay! Here’s hoping that 2018 brings you your perfect pup! You’re right to keep looking for the dog that is right for you — shelters can be sad places to be, especially at the holidays, but when I work in the adoption center at the shelter when I volunteer, I always tell people to pick the right pet for them and their lifestyle. And remember, whoever you adopt, makes space for another dog to be saved.

Re. pet insurance, FWIW I have Trupanion, but I think they all work the same way: your monthly payment will be based on how high of a deductible you choose. Regular preventive care (annual visits and vaccinations) isn’t covered. Nor are preexisting conditions. But if you have an emergency or need surgery, a lot of the time 90 percent of all costs are covered (post deductible), which can be significant. You can also look into a Care Card, which works like an HSA account, except that you can use it for pets as well as for yourself.

This is so exciting! Keep us posted on the hunt!

This is so pretty! Even in the pics, the stitching looks immaculate.

That's a good idea! I'm not the biggest fan of NYC but my DD's been dying to go. So we can make a weekend of it!

----

This conversation about brand / pricing / classics etc. caused me to look at and read up on the Hermes B & K a little more. In looking at photos, I found that I love both bags in bright colors. Black is nice enough but the pink, peacock blue, green, purple...are gorgeous!

I think Hermes does color better than anyone out there. Black is classic, but I would almost always choose a color over black when it comes to H. Even their neutrals — Etoupe, Etain, Gold, Gris T, Indigo — have a surprising amount of depth and visual interest.

Here's an aside.
So much quilted leather and woven leather chain straps in the world, especially after dark. So much Chanel-inspired for everyone's default date night look that I'm starting to feel the fatigue with the look that I got ten years ago with LV mono bags EVERYWHERE. Like I just can't deal with having a bag that is remarkably indistinguishable than the majority of bags on the majority of shoulders. It's like how I feel about seeing the neverfull everywhere as people's go to tote for every purpose, or how every bag that's not a NF is a heavily branded MK. It sets off major boredom and I find myself perking up and rubbernecking when I see any Other bag, because I'm so desperate for more variety in my bag watching life, in the wild.

It's sad because I just don't think the Chanel inspired detailing look as special to my eyes anymore and I'm pissed and I want my 'old eyes' back.
I also wish I didn't care so much about not being exactly like everyone else and just ignored anyone else and enjoy what I like. But I do so much not want to feel like the bag I am carrying is not super similar to the majority of other bags, in a given setting.

Sorry, whine over.

Here, it’s the LV Damier Ebene Neverfull that you see everywhere. I think because the climate here is yucky and ladies don’t want to ruin the vachette on their monogram bags (I personally love a good patina, but that’s just me).

I see a lot of Chanel wannabes too, mostly in the form of college-aged girls wearing Rebecca Minkoff or Kate Spade. Most of the bags are pretty cute so I don’t get the same eye fatigue as with the LVs. It seriously sometimes feels like every other woman in Boston has an LV Neverfull in DE. I’ve been tempted to buy a Neverfull at times because it does seem like an incredibly useful bag, but I just can’t. It’s just too common.

Strangely, I don’t feel the same way about the Longchamp le Pliage, which is the other bag that every woman here seems to have. Maybe because it’s not as obvious as the Neverfull.

In the beginning of the year I was reluctant to make a wish list and just bought what I thought I could use. I was worried that by having a wish list I would buy even more. Though once I finally made the list and not just for bags it helped keep me from buying things that wouldn't work, to actually completing outfits. So now I slowly have more then just jeans and tee shirts or evening gowns to two pairs of real pants and some cute sweaters. I am a work in progress .

I love lists. I periodically make bag wishlists, and then go back and look at previous wish lists to see which bags stay on, and which ones were momentary obsessions. When I’m on the cusp of making a decision, it can help to look back and see if a bag keeps appearing on the lists. If it won’t go away, that tells me it probably won’t be an impulse decision I’ll end up regretting.

Scampy 2 year old just got a fever. :/

That's really exciting news, bake. Are you thinking about a smaller breed than a labrador? And do you definitely want a puppy, or would you consider a slightly older dog?
It sounds as though your family has gotten "on board" with being part of the screening process, which as I remember they were dragging their heels on last month. So congratulations on that.. I'm sure once they realized how important it was to you, they had an attitude adjustment!

This is a very special bag, mimmy. I kept staring and staring at it before I read your description, because I could NOT place the brand! Then I read about Cathy Roels, and it all made sense. How very special to have a fully handmade bag (handmade but not "homemade"... I love this distinction!)
I just know you're going to love this and get a lot of use out of it. Congratulations, and well shopped!

Cathy Roels really is a perfectionist and, I think a bit obsessed and addicted to luxe bag making techniques. More Etsy indie bag makers should spend 7 years with a teacher who is also a master from Delvaux! I love that she doesn't use textiles even for lining; she's a leather freak all the way, it's either an unlined simple bag or a fully finished bag lined in leather. Either way, the stitching looks just amazing/completely perfect.

Here's how I did in 2017. Not quite as well as I had hoped, but pretty close to my goals. Next year, unless a unicorn is lying on my front porch and I trip over him, I'm planning on a total ban. But of course 2017 was ALSO supposed to be a total ban, and then along came a handbag! :giggle:

Goal: sell (and perhaps donate) to get my collection down from 26 to 23: 14 full-size weekday bags, 9 small weekend/special occasion bags
Reality: sold 2 bags, but bought 1, which only brought my collection down to 24: 14 full-size, 10 small

Goal: zero bags in
Reality: bought one new bag: the Rebecca Minkoff Cupid that haunted my dreams until I caved and bought it!

Goal: zero SLGs in; donate extraneous leather pouches
Reality: met this one: no new SLGs, and donated 6 pouches

Goal: use my small bags more frequently
Reality: went a long way towards meeting this one by (1) tracking usage; and (2) rearranging my bags so that the small bags are more easily accessible

I'll post my 2018 goals in the new thread. Look forward to seeing everyone over there!
