LOL! When I first came to TPF and heard people referring to their bags as collections, I found the term pretentious and a little silly. But, I reconciled my thoughts with it just being fun wording used on the site. I can't imagine myself referring to my bags as a "collection" IRL!
That being said, I do think it can lend some to believe they are "supposed" to acquire bags for the sake of acquiring them and showing them off as a group. Which I guess is ok as long as that is what they really want to do and it's not the TPF version of keeping up with the Jones's.
I'm sorry your McQueen hasn't been found. And ouch on not getting the sale bags.

I'm going to hope the purse gods have an even more spectacular handbag than the ones you considered for you down the road. :hugs:
That's a good point!!! I never thought of my bags or shoes as a 'collection', but that's what it is, I suppose! A group of things, which I've 'collected'. What else? Travel mugs!? Travel/work mug 'collection'? (I suppose! These are daily items I use regularly, in great rotation... which I really like.)

About PT's AMQ loss- how devastating. The one time I left a bag in a cab was when I had two bags, when I'd first moved to the city- and it just HAPPENED to be during a sting when they'd just changed the law (or something) to have drivers look in their cabs after a passenger leaves, to report lost items. Imagine my stunned shock when THEY called ME, multiple times before I even got home, saying my things were at the nearest precinct!!! My poor friends & family (they called about 10-15 ppl in my phone!!!) thought something dire happened! (Well, I guess it did...). I hope your bag turns up. Did it have anything identifiable in it? I always keep cab receipts so you can track/recall the cab just in case... How upsetting, I'm so sorry.

I left a bag in a cab in 1988, when I was 8. My first purse I was really into. I still remember that plastic white bag with hot pink print of palm trees and such. I loved it and left it in a New York taxi cab.

@bakeacookie hope you are feeling better already!

I think collection is an apt term, just a group of items. I would just call them ‘my bags’ in real life, like I just call my shoes ‘my shoes’ or my coats ‘my coats’, but if you have more than you absolutely need, I guess it slips over into need-driven clothing/wardrobe and into a curated wardrobe, or, ....’collection’ of wearable pretties.
I think of my coats and boots as collections, albeit it small, single digit amount collections that do the trick and then some, that I really enjoy using beyond their purely functional purpose.
My clothes as well of course. Jewelry is a pure collection since none of it is needed! Lotions and potions is more like a stash. You use it up.....

Anyway, interesting stuff!

Anyone have a great anti-aging foundation or B.B. cream they heartily recommend? I hate when my makeup settles in and makes my face look drier and wrinklier than my 38 year old face would look without makeup on. My husband is in an international airport tomorrow and wants to buy me something, so I thought, since I’m about out of foundation he could buy me some easily found mainstream department store brand bottle of face goop. Doesn’t need SPF because I put that on anyways, but something with skin beneficial ingredients would be great, and light cosmetic improvement; I’m not trying to cover up anything major, just a fresh and slightly illuminated version of me. :)

Good question, I was wondering the same yesterday, as my pre-40s makeup (I'm like, two hairs older...) doesn't seem to be 'doing it' anymore, without other potions or whatnot!!! Or maybe I just hadn't noticed before :confused1:, so I JUST starting using the fresh cucumber facial crm my  brought home for me one day. (Which then gave me a complex!!! Will keep you posted if it works! It sure FEELS good...)

I think for some, 'collection' is the right word and the right thing. maybe a hobby, maybe buying and selling, some serious collectors out there. I think that's 100% perfectly fine too. If I understand 'collection' I can totally also understand why some people are freaked by even thinking about the slightest scratch on their newest UHG. Like a stamp collection full of Penny Blacks or a very fine vintage wine. Fair enough.

I think most of us in this thread seem to actually love using our bags so it's a bit different. Maybe some of us went through a collectors stage and still didn't have an easy-to-use bag to use during the day. This is why my AMcQ shopper disappearing kills me, I used it for different purposes almost everyday. Totally my fault of course.

ITA, if my mind is going towards this bag or that, it really can't be either can it? LOL. Both were beautiful in their own way though.

It's rare to find a bright colour H Medor clutch and it is a bag I've always admired. I do have a fabulous H clutch anyway so... seriously I shouldn't be looking for one.

Aw, bless you, little 8 y o and you can still remember. I left my purse in a public telephone box when I was 10 and I still remember too.

Recommendation for a TM cream with BB qualities and SPF too = Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer. I use an Hourglass ambient powder to set rather than trad setting powder. For eyes, Urban Decay all matte palates are very flattering.

Whatever else I use I always go back to Nars but I must say Armani Face Fabric is also excellent maybe with a bit more coverage

So glad it worked out for you. Actually, DH left his telephone in a store of Sat and someone called me back after I called 'it' to tell us. DH bought the SA a big box of chocs because as we all know everything is on our phones these days.

My friend paid for the cab and she's kept in touch of all updates.

What is your shopping bag of doom?

It’ an actual shopping bag near the closet doorway wherein sit the bags (five at the moment) that are about to be GONE. I have to pass them all the time so I’m motivated to find their next “home.” They’re not counted as an out until they’ve been moved on from the Shopping Bag of Doom.

I love this!
I can see your bags shivering in fear of the SBoD…
(I say 'dooooom' in my head )

Sometimes this little method can backfire on me. Like right now for instance. I was going through some old pics on my IPad and I came across one of me with a Coach bag that I know is DOOMED and of course I thought, “That’s a nice bag. It does no harm ... and so easily wearable.” Now I’m thinking of moving it back into the closet. Woe is me ... it might just get a reprieve,

Apropos of the discussion of knowing our bags and ourselves ...

Since joining this thread in March, I’ve gotten my bag life so well organized by using Albums on my devices. My Albums are :
Fall/Winter by Size
Fall/Winter by Color
Spring/Summer
Travel Bags
Archival Bags
Clutches
Shopping Bag of Doom

Every bag has a picture in its Album and is stored with its group. So I have my Fall/Winter bags on my shelves now. Clutches, which don’t take much space, are there too. Spring and summer are boxed. Archival is boxed. The Travel group is stored in a separate area that I don’t go to much. The SBoD is literally a big LV shopping bag with 5 in it whose exit strategy I haven’t yet figured out yet.

Each Album tells me how many pics are in it so I can do a quick total count.

If I move a bag from one category to another i.e.,the bag is too open to be a F/W bag, I box it with the S/S and move its picture.

This system evolved over the year and I LOVE it because I enjoy looking at the pics of the bags. Sometimes I play it as a slideshow with music. Yikes! But I’m so visual when it comes to my bags. I’m not nerdy like this with anything else, I promise y’all.

The downside is that I don't have a count for number of wears. I’m beginning to make ticks on my pictures but this looks goofy. Maybe 2018 will bring motivation for a spreadsheet.

Example of use: Last weekend, I was bag shopping with DH for Christmas. My birthday passed so he gave me my Xmas present then because I couldn’t decide on a bag. We were back to the LV Siena. I thought I wanted the MM but the GM felt like a better size. I looked in my album, Fall/Winter Bags by Size, and saw that my largest F/W Bag is the Sofia Coppola PM ( it’s a roomy bag but still ...) so I knew the GM would be the better choice for the Siena.

Here’s a thumbnail shot of my neat-ish shelves with F/W Bags plus clutches. I owe it all to the impetus and thought coming from you ladies on this thread. Thank you! .

I like your system! And congrats on it helping you make a better decision! [emoji1360][emoji1360]

In it's defense - it is a cute little bag and such a pretty color. :flowers:
