Remember Saturn? The price was the price. Makes me wonder if that radical approach was part of the reason why they went out of business.
It may have affected the financial side of things, but I bet it also earned them a loyal base of customers who didn't want to haggle, didn't like it, didn't know how, were uncomfortable with it or afraid of it. As Bake mentioned, Carmax operates their business on that same premise - the price is set, no haggling, no negotiating. And car dealers don't exactly make it easy. They're known to play power games and use high pressure tactics, like holding your car keys hostage so you can't leave.

Although, on the issue of them going out of business, car dealers make their money on the shop and the financing, not really on the sale itself. So I don't know if having firm prices vs negotiable ones would have made a lot of difference.

While it’s true (unfortunately) that women over 40 don’t get a “pass,” there is also something wonderful that happens in your 40s: you stop caring! When I was in my 30s, I had a friend who was several years older who was wonderfully outspoken and true to herself. I asked her how she got that way, and she said, “You know, I just woke up one morning after I turned 40 and realized I didn’t care anymore!” I said to DH later that I wish that would happen to me. And it did! It’s not that I don’t care at all, but I care a whole lot less than I used to about what the general world thinks. I always try to be polite and classy, but if someone is going to judge me for my outfit or hair style, that’s their problem. Getting a bit older can be freeing in some ways.
I haven't quite gotten there yet. I still care way too much what people think. I've heard two sayings that I try to keep in mind, but I often fail - Don't worry about what people think of you, because they probably don't. (I have little doubt this is true!) And what people think of you is none of your business. Also true, but does little for my insecurity and thin skin.

Come check out the BV subforum! It seems like the general experience is that customer service has been really good in the boutiques. That has been my experience. I went in the other day casually dressed and with my Coach tote, which I really like and use a lot, and the SAs at the front of the store definitely looked at my bag, but I think that might be what they do to check if it's a BV as part of their sales conversation. I put my tote on the carpet to look at some of the items on display, and one of them picked it up gently and put it on the glass-topped counter for me. I was pleasantly surprised! They treated it as gently as they treated their display items.

I've had great customer service when I've gone in for a serious look and when I've gone in for a casual browse or to ask about their repair service.
Unlike the SA at the MK store I was in a few years ago, who complimented my bag when he was trying to soften me up for a sale, but then ridiculed it as uncool when he realized it was a Coach bag, the cool kids carry MK. Because you know, it's not like Coach and MK share much of their customer base or anything. It was a stupid move on his part and that and his behavior in general did not make me want to buy a bag from him. And I didn't.

I finally switched out of the Coach Preston yesterday. I decided on LV weekend this weekend, so I'm using my Pallas BB. I don't have a picture, but you've all seen it before. I realized what I don't like about it - the rings on the ends that the strap clips to keep the bag from opening very wide, and it has a dark lining. So it's kinda hard to get in and out of and a bit of a black hole, even though it's not very big. @Cookiefiend I think you're the one with the regular Pallas, right? Do you have this problem?

Sorry I haven't been around. I haven't forgotten you though.

Nov tally

Bags out -1 My Alexander McQueen shopper. So PO about it though coz I left it in a Black Cab. Everyone pray it comes back to me please, I can't live without it.

Bags in - 0 But I am itching.

I bought some Georg Jensen ruthenium/enamel Daisy earrings and a sterling silver Smithy belt for DH. I've never bought clip-on earrings before and they don't feel particularly safe so I've asked GJ how I can make them tighter/stay on better.
I hope it turns up.

I do have the regular Pallas and I honestly don’t have any issues with it. I carry a full size wallet, 2 checkbooks (sigh), a small-ish cosmetic bag, sunglasses and an epi-pen and have zero problems... (well... one time I couldn’t find something in it (it is a black lining), got mad and dumped the whole thing out on the front seat of my car... [emoji56])
Most of the time - it’s just fine!

Not sure it's the same with cars and houses where I am. There is a fixed selling price but they have promotional offers for a period, like maybe a cash discount of so much, maybe free insurance, free upgrade of something here and there. So ending price for one may be different for another because of the discounts and offers. Is it the same when you say you negotiate a price there?
I wish. There is a sticker on the window with manufacturers suggested retail price, then from there the salesperson will act like they have the keys to the kingdom and offer you some "spectacular" price, which isn't spectacular. Then you can play all sorts of games from here, counter offer, say too much and leave and see if they call you with a better price......it is stressful and ridiculous. Just put prices on the dang things and that's that.....but no, it has to be this big mind game. I hate it!
