Just wanted to update my strap saga. I took the strap from my saddle 35 to a TPF recommended cobbler to have it shortened {by 10 1/2"}. I picked it up today and I couldn't be happier with the finished product.

Initially I thought that he would cut/seam the strap at the middle but apparently he voted that plan because he didn't feel the seam would hold up to the stress well sooooo, he shortened it from the end. That means he had to match the pointed-ish cut, match the stitching, re-align the grommets for the buckle and reconstruct the edge paint.

I really scrutinized his work and when you compare the strap ends side by side, which literally NEVER happens, yeah, you can see that there have been alterations. When the strap is attached to the bag, it's all but impossible to detect.

Bottom line, this bag is now my dream bag. I can't stop looking at it and touching it. I've never been a matchy-matchy person but I'm feeling like I need a new wallet and cosmetics case and probably a new skinny too!.

Very special thanks to Momtok for turning me on to the leather craftsman! I O U 1 !

Wow, sounds like he really went the extra mile. Glad it worked out for you!

Thanks ladies! I carried her for the first time today and I had a lady in Petco compliment the bag and ask if it was new. She was carrying a patchwork Swagger! {kind of impressive since I usually ONLY see MFF sigs and knockoff's round my little hamlet} I told her about TPF so she might just turn up here..

One of the S.A.s at my local FP store managed to find a Beechwood 23 from the fall release in the system-there were 4 left in Beechwood-so she ordered it for me. This one is supposed to have the back pocket I want so badly. It'll be at the store tomorrow. Can't wait to find out!

Once I read it could be "defringed" & that the fringe pieces were not attched to the main whipstitching, I just took a closer look, unknotted them & slowly pulled them out. Each had a small stitch of thread that kept it together but that came apart easily. Did have to actually cut the ones (I think just one set) that are secured at the side of the bag, by the buckle but then I took the smallest of the fringe pieces & reattached them on each side by weaving them through some stitching there & you would never notice any of this if you weren't looking for it. As I said, once I did this, the bag was perfect. Ive heard from my SA that the fringe is a dealbreaker for many, who feel its overdone...at which point she pulls out the pics of mine to give them another perspective. But, I admit it was scary to do it not knowing how it would turn out & I can certainly understand folks don't want to pay that much for a bag only to deconstruct it. I'm so glad I did though. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.
Thanks for the instructions, I saw the bag and thought it was gorgeous except for the fringe, might have to get the oxblood..

I'd like to get a whiplash saddle bag for the PCE event, but have a few questions for those who already have it. I know some of you have removed the fringe, but did anyone leave it on? Does it look that bad with it on? I don't want to mess it up trying to remove it and from some of the pictures I've seen on TPF with the fringe it looks kind of cute to me, especially when worn on the shoulder. The measurements listed online for the whiplash are the same as the regular saddle bag, but to me the regular saddle bag was too small. Does the whiplash saddle bag have more room than the regular saddle bag? Any feedback on the whiplash saddle bag would be appreciated.
