1 carat diamond ring or Hermes bag?

I truely respect your opinions, and loved the way you wrote your post. I am excited for you that the craftmanship of Hermes excites you, and I too some day will own a Hermes bag. I would never discourage someone for following their bright orange dreams!!

I do think that both products are alike and both companies have different marketing strategies that work for them, but I think that has more to do to their target client vs. more mainstream or not. I don't think it would be beneficial or wise to put a hermes ad in teen magazine.....but then again you see product placements in all major films for both products and on major stars arms lol. But then again, it's just how you view things :)

The only thing that upsets me is when posters directly tell others that buying Tiffany's is a waste of money, that it's all about marketing, that you can get a replica tiffanys ring any where (this one really freaks me out, because if we all agree it is wrong to buy an inspired/replica bag because the designers worked hard for those designs, etc etc...but why buying fake jewelry ok? I mean yeah if it is just a diamond on a plain band ok -- but researching it so the prongs and everything resemble tiffanys? well in my book that's just a fake, a good fake...but a fake. because when it comes down to it - some of the GOOD fake handbags are made out of leather and fine materials -- but they are still FAKE!!! hehe)))

But again, too each it's own. When I'm older I will own a birkin bag, but right now i'm loving my Tiffany's :)

I agree. . . Both are great products. However, I would go for the Tiffany ring.

I agree. Both are great products, as a Tiffany fan, I would recommend you go for the Tiffany ring. HOWEVER, I may be biased, but my image of someone (married) carries a Birkin also wears a big diamond ring! Meaning, between 1 carat Tiffany and a Birkin dillemma is quite unique IMO.

Having read some Tiffany vs. XXX threads(including Tiffany knock-off, or etc.), I was suprised to know that many people try to talk OPs out of purchasing a Tiffany diamond ring, worrying about the financial status of OPs or kindly letting them know what the real value for money is! At first, I thought some of them were a bit rude because there are many Tiffany diamond owners in this forum.

But, now I think, they are just kind people who eagerly want to communicate thier experience in purchasing diamonds and how they felt good about saving money not buying from famous brands! Understandable.

By way of experiment, I have been to Blue Nile and Pricecope to find out what kind of diamond I can buy with the amount I spent at Tiffany for G-VS2 2.4 carat solitaire. WOW! I could easily buy an ideal cut of 2 carat of D/VVS1!!!!!!!!!!!

I know that's exactly what savvy anti-Tiffany diamond ring people are talking about, but the fact just does not impress on us at all... I am totally happy with a Tiffany diamond of lower grade. Because I don't want to spend double to get a D/VVS1 diamond at Tiffany. And becuase buying from wholesalers/on the NET is simply NOT us.

The OP will find each advice helpful or valuable or useless.;)

By the way, I love Tiffany's because their design is simple, compared to Cartier or Van Cleef, etc. It also because, as some people mentioned, it's more "affordable" compared to HW or Graff. But, the choice of brand depends on what to buy. In case of 3 ct solitaire, I might go for the lower setting (perhaps, Cartier's 4-prongs solitaire). If I buy a 3-stone ring, I would buy HW's.

I love famous big names, but custom-made rings are gorgeous and very compelling when their designs are really original.
