What kind of pen is in your handbag?

Beautiful! Pelikan is my favorite (fountain) pen to write with. They write like butter! Is the rollerball the same? I'd love to see writing with your special nibs when you get them back. I've always preferred fine pens too, but with fountain pens, I enjoy medium nibs.

I have tried so hard to love Pelikan fps. I own two atm (m605 Stresemann and an m205 Amethyst) but just never reach for them and have decided to sadly sell them along with many of my other unused fps, sometime within the next few months. It's mostly because of the nibs, I haven't had much luck with Pelikan nibs and I've tried probably close to a dozen, both gold and steel. Which is shame because I love the design! I was so disheartened by it that I just didn't even feel like sending my 605 to the nibmeister lol.

I will say, tho, I LOVE the m405 silver-white, and maybe one day will buy it. Luckily it's a part of their regular lineup now so I don't have to worry about it suddenly disappearing. If I ever get that one I'd probably just send it straight to a nibmeister, as Pelikan's EF is still to broad for me lol.

The Pelikan refill is a "fine," but it wrote too broadly for me, so I bought an Ohto ceramic rollerball refill that writes a bit finer. It's super smooth and a lovely blue, I enjoy it quite a bit.

I actually have a YouTube channel that revolves around fountain pens, journaling, stationery, accessories, etc. When I get my pens back (should be VERY soon!!!!!!) I plan on making a video showcasing the nibs.

Edit: I actually made a video review of the Stresemann rollerball, and compare it to my m605 if you're interested in that!

Oh I would be interested to see! I have recently renewed my love for stationary and the like. This digital world has re invigorated my appreciation for the role of analog can play in my life.

Analog is so wonderful, it's a huge part of my life. I journal in a notebook almost daily, usually with fountain pens. I use a physical planner, take notes by hand, etc. It slows me down, I feel, and lets me appreciate everything a lot more. And of course browsing the digital world to see all the beautiful pictures of analog goodies lol.

I've sent pretty much all my fountain pens off to the nibmeister for nib regrinding, so am left with less used, non-fountain pens. They'll be gone for at least two months, so I've been carrying around my beautiful little Pelikan m405 Stresemann rollerball with a blue refill, along with my also pictured wallet/journal combination in this leather notebook cover. Love the design of this pen, the clip is shaped like a pelican bill!

Which nibmeister do you use?

I’ve heard good things about Richard Binder and John Mottishaw but haven’t ever tried them.

Hi Inkfade! I missed this response and am happy to see it now so I can check out your youtube. Thank you!

I'm sorry to hear that Pelikan nibs are so hit or miss. Thankfully my few (all steel) nibs have been wonderful. They are all medium, my smoothest writers, and when writing with Pelikan 4001 inks they are especially buttery writers! Your preference for finer nibs makes sense, and I think that if I hadn't started enjoying medium nibs, I might find Pelikan too broad too. All of my nibs are steel; so I don't have gold nibs to compare them too. I like TWSBI Eco and Lamy for their fun colors, a little Kaweco Sport when I need a portable pen, but nothing writes as wonderfully as Pelikan for me.

The Ohto rollerball refill sounds like a beautiful color! I love blue inks. I will check that color out if it works in any of my pens. Since it has been a while, I would appreciate hearing your pen thought updates. I haven't explored any new ones recently. Happy writing!

My current fountain pen is a Cross silver plated pen-I used to write with a Harry Winston palladium pen, which was lovely and thick, and gorgeous to hold, but Harry Winston are a jeweller, not a writing specialist, and it kept needing servicing-I don’t know what happened to it(I bought it whilst living in Paris), but sadly I don’t have it anymore.
For a long time I wrote with Waterman pens, I sat all of my accountancy exams using their South Sea blue ink, which is very distinctive-I May go back to Waterman, as I’d like a new pen.
I have the matching ballpoint to the Cross, and considered buying the sterling silver versions, but they’re not my favourite pens ever, I don’t think worth the investment ..

I have South Seas Blue ink! If you need more, they call it Inspired Blue now. It is beautiful, very close to Pelikan Turquoise. That's my kind of color too. It is fun to see another fountain pen user here!
