It would take quite a bit of "rubbing" as other tpfers have suggested - for there to be this much color loss on the handles. Older Lady Diors, more frequently handled than this one, show no color loss on the handles. Even with such conditions as hand creams and jewelry, etc.
In any case, have you talked to your Dior SA about what you've noticed on your bag? Her response may help you with your decision, as well.
Ultimately, it comes down to this: Are you comfortable with keeping a bag with these "condition" issues? Can you accept this bag as is - in order to have your preferred specifications?
If so, then ask Dior to replace the handles. Since this is a new bag, there's always the possibility of fabulous customer service and receiving such service promptly and gratis. Morever, although twillys would protect the handles, they're not necessary. (However, if you choose to use twillys, remember to let the handles breathe from time to time, too.)
Or, I'd enjoy the bag until the handles experienced enough wear to warrant replacement. The replacement is not excessively cost prohitive.
However, if it's the case that this issue raises some concerns for you... such that you'd rather consider another bag... then return it and wait for the right bag. Although waiting has its drawbacks, you may find a wonderful alternative.

But here's my dilemma... there is some color that seems to be rubbed off on the handles (3 spots to be exact - I have attached photos showing.. 1 on the side of the handle and then rubbing off on the tops of both handles). I now know this is normal with use.. as since I found it 3 places it seems to be from handling. However, I would really appreciate some elaboration on how delicate the handles are and how easily they will be imperfected (so I know for future use and how careful to be/what to expect). Will this happen for all colors? I was planning a black or red large LD next as my daily bag but may reconsider if this is going to happen.
So, the question is - would you accept a bag like this (i.e. with faults) or would you want something that looks brand new??
This is a big purchase for me so I really wanted it to be absolutely perfect and to be honest I expected perfection from Dior. However, there are only 2 left total in the UK (1 of which I now have).. so it's likely the other has the same marks as well. I guess what concerns me most is that the dots are grey - I don't want the entire handle to be grey in a few months time! For people who own, bals - the color looks exactly like the corners of a bal bag that have been rubbed off.. the grey leather base (pre-dyed).
I love this color, so if it came down to keeping this bag or exchanging for another color I would keep this. I just wonder whether it's worth pursuing to see if I could get one without these faults from the start.
Thank you everyone for your opinions - from helping me decide on the bag to this.. I really appreciate all of you TPFers for your guidance
